The Mountain Goats and Kaki King record musical tribute to Toad

The track, which concludes the six-song EP, is available to stream and download for free on Pitchfork. If you're a fan of the artists involved (or a staunch supporter of Mario's polka-dotted companion), it's definitely worth a listen. Even if you aren't, it'd be nice to give your ears a break from the High School Musical soundtrack you've been listening to for the past hour. That's right -- we know.

Holy shit, this rules. I love The Mountain Goats. Going to Georgia is just such a wonderfully beautiful song. So is the Atom and His Package cover. John Darnielle just writes such great stuff.

Beautiful song, actually takes a simple premise from the game and makes it thoughtful and poignant. Games so often focus on those rescuing, not those being rescued -- this does so while also offering a Rosencrantz-esque alternative perspective of that world.
Love the Mountain Goats and Darnielle's recent collaborative work with Aesop Rock.
