Too Human update fixes connectivity, nothing else
We turned on Too Human this morning (no, really) and found an auto update. Hoping it might have shortened the Valkyrie death sequence, we immediately unequipped all weapons and armor and ran naked (figuratively) into battle, only to be faced with the same 15.5-second consequence. We also thought the menu screen loaded faster, but that is all apparently just in our heads.
In a forum post this morning, Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack revealed that the update "fixed some connectivity issues and was done prior to release. It does not contain any balance or gameplay changes." Better luck next time.

Bummer.
Knight Marquise @ Sep 6th 2008 3:41PM
Huh. I've played through Too Human 7 times, on my 8th right now, and the Valkyrie death scene has never been an issue for me. I'm not sure why anyon would bitch about that. If anything needs fixed, it's the damn camera.
el serpiente @ Sep 6th 2008 5:01PM
Man, you must be really bored.
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 7th 2008 10:13PM
Not bored. Just a liar.
giantenemycrab @ Sep 6th 2008 3:54PM
How to fix Too Human problems, DIY:
-Open your Xbox 360 disc drive
-Take Too Human disc, discard it
-Play something else
-Profit
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Sep 6th 2008 4:24PM
missing the obligatory ????
Wah-hah-ha! @ Sep 6th 2008 5:00PM
Obviously what you play is up to you
Now me, i'd replace it with PSO I & II (if we're talking about a 360, there was an original Xbox version, but I don't know if it was added to the BC lists)
Same idea as Too Human, but the game's in color, and the camera isn't totally obtrusive
WhoMe @ Sep 6th 2008 6:05PM
"but the game's in color"
+ a gazillion Innernette points
äsdf @ Sep 6th 2008 4:12PM
I just hope it does well for itself in the NPDs just for a little assurance that we will be getting the rest of the trilogy.
Also, Valk scene doesn't bother me either.
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Sep 6th 2008 4:25PM
[cuts "Too Human" out of the headline and replaces with "Castle Crashers"]
sigh....
Me @ Sep 6th 2008 4:34PM
I dont understand what all the fuss is about. Sure, it has a few issues like any other game that people are going to bitch about, but if your looking for a fun hack and slash game, Too Human is it! It's not the best game I've ever played, but it definitely is better than MOST.
I'm ready for the sequel!
Snowblind @ Sep 6th 2008 4:43PM
Agreed. Not the best game ever, but certainly not deserving of this level of hate.
Hyams @ Sep 6th 2008 4:50PM
Remember, this is teh internets.
Any hyped up game that doesn't get at least an average of 85 on Metacritic will be remembered as an aweful failure and terrible game.
Other such examples include the likes of Heavenly Sword and Killzone 1.
bak @ Sep 6th 2008 5:31PM
I agree Hyams. I think many reviewers/some gamers have become very jaded about games in general. Last time I checked - this was a great time to be a gamer: when many of the non-blockbusters are still really stinking good.
The only reason I use metacritic reviews anymore is to save 60 bucks on something I'm iffy about and to find out about serious technical issues that the reviewers find. I generally disregard the scores now.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 6th 2008 5:44PM
...and Spore.
atrimus @ Sep 6th 2008 5:48PM
@Me
it's called preference dude. don't get too bent out of shape because someone else doesn't like what you like. Heavenly Sword was a mindless hack and slash, one i thoroughly enjoyed, and one internet forums love to pan.
Wah-hah-ha! @ Sep 6th 2008 5:59PM
Heavenly Sword wasn't panned, it was just hailed as nothing special
From what i saw of HS, i would have bought it, beautiful art, standard hack-and-slash fare
Hyams @ Sep 6th 2008 9:23PM
No, Heavenly Sword wasn't critically panned. It got decent, average reviews.
Thing is, for about half a year after it released, people keep on bringing it up alongside LAIR, citing it as a similiar failure, and an example of why the PS3 sucks.
Ayrkain @ Sep 7th 2008 4:37AM
Tales of Vesperia and Heavenly Sword actually both score 79 on metacritic.
humperdinck @ Sep 8th 2008 2:32PM
Too Human is the new Enter the Matrix.
Cesaria (Enjoys all systems, despite my reputation) @ Sep 6th 2008 5:03PM
The problem with this game is the corrupt reviewers. It isn't as bad as some made it out to be. It seems people are reviewing the hype surrounding the game and not the game itself.
j.howlett @ Sep 6th 2008 6:46PM
that's never happened before
Ignatius @ Sep 6th 2008 8:03PM
8.8, that is all that needs to be said.
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 7th 2008 10:16PM
This from a guy that likes anything and everything Nintendo makes regardless of how good it actually is.
I thought the game sucked. That's pretty much it. Not as bad as some other games but nothing worth playing.
gestault @ Sep 6th 2008 5:05PM
Frankly, I'm pretty annoyed by the way the game industry, blogosphere included, has tagged this game as a leper. I've enjoyed it, and played it a lot, with the same group of friends I played Phantasy Star Online and WoW with. We all enjoy it. Name a better hack-and-slash RPG on 360.
Half the complaints in the reviews are silly when looked at in the right context (and that's certainly not true of every bad game). Plus some of the numbers (2/10 from destructoid? really?) are so abstractions that its clear to anyone but an individual so a part of the crowd following culture that they don't bother to examine the game itself.
DangerMouse @ Sep 6th 2008 5:44PM
I haven't played this gamed, and probably never will, but is there a piece of the story that explains why their swords float off their back?
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 7th 2008 10:17PM
blame it on the that damn camera ;)
atrimus @ Sep 6th 2008 5:59PM
i guess i must be corrupt too, because i agree with the reveiws. based off the demo the game was a total letdown. and before anyone starts, i follow a simply philosophy: i'm not taking a chance at spending $60 on a game i didn't like the demo to.
d0x @ Sep 6th 2008 6:02PM
@Hyams
Sir you seem to forget Killzone was a horrible horrible game and while TooHuman has some major flaws its not horrible, terrible or worthy of all the flames it gets.
Hyams @ Sep 6th 2008 9:29PM
It wasn't a horrible, horrible game.
It got average reviews - it actually has a higher metacritic score than Too Human; Killzone's 70 versus Too Human's 6).
Killzone mainly got marked down for technical issues (frame rates issues and glitches) with a few nods towards it's erratic AI.
What you just said is example of what I mean. A game gets hyped up, and when it turns out to only be decent - as opposed to the uber amazing game journalists hyped it up to be - it gets unfairly remembered as a 'horrible horrible game'.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Sep 6th 2008 8:51PM
This is good news to me. I keep having trouble connecting with a guy on my friends list but haven't had a single problem getting into a random game.
Pink Lemon @ Sep 6th 2008 9:18PM
As much as I enjoy this game, the comments bashing this game never get old :)
Jake @ Sep 7th 2008 3:43PM
This game isn't good or bad enough to warrant any reaction either way.
notwen @ Sep 7th 2008 9:23AM
despite numerous flaws, some even halting gameplay altogether, too human's entertainment factor still wins out, at least for me. =]
play it or don't play it.
DigDug @ Sep 7th 2008 2:12PM
Did they fix it so the games does not suck badly?
Duke @ Sep 8th 2008 10:41AM
Cause the guy like you without a 360, who trash talks them, would know what their games are like right? Yeah.
Overgauss @ Sep 7th 2008 8:40PM
Of all games THIS is the one that makes me want an xbox360. You can blame "CliffyB".
Professor Lario @ Sep 8th 2008 10:52AM
Release an alternate control scheme and I will buy.
TrojanGuy @ Sep 8th 2008 1:35PM
How can you further balance a game that is already perfect?
