X3F interviews Gears 2 lead artist and writer
15
Between all the hip nerdrock concerts and multifaceted gaming marathons, it was easy to forget that PAX 2008 was a pretty sweet place for developers to show off their big titles. Not that Epic really needs to spread the word about their sequel to 2006's chainsaw-wielding bestseller, Gears of War 2 -- regardless, our Bleszinski-loving sister site, Xbox 360 Fanboy, recently got a chance to sit down with the lead artist and writer for the Locust massacring simulator to ask about some of the finer points of sequeling. If you find yourself hungry for details about the story and art direction for Gears the Second, we suggest hopping over to X3F and skimming through the twin interviews (or, if we may be so bold, the twinterviews).

To be honest, I wouldn't be too surprised if this was some kind of a render.

Honestly, I thought the first Gears of War was ugly as hell and downright terrible overall. God have mercy on anyone that buys the sequel.

Considering both the art direction and writing in GoW were bloody awful I'm not surprised at all they were done by the same guy.
Gears of War: the tale of a gray guy, dressed in gray armor, fighting against gray enemies dressed in gray armor, with the help of gray friends also dressed in gray armor, against a backdrop of gray land, covered with gray rubble and gray buildings. It's the epitome of moronic design.

Thou shalt not speak ill of Gears of War 2, it is the be all and end all of computer games. What with its pleasing visuals, origional gameplay and brilliant story telling. It is said after Gears of War 2 is released, all production of other games will cease as we all pray for the arrival of Gears of War 3 which will bring yet more origionality that Gears of War 2 brought from the origional Gears of War.
