Motorstorm: Pacific Rift European demo to be sent to 'lucky few' on Thursday

Here in the States, Qore subscribers will be able to fling mud across the startled faces of both friends and enemies alike in the Motorstorm: Pacific Rift demo which is due out this week for those who purchased the fourth installment of Sony's online gaming mag. Unfortunately, Qore number four isn't available on the PSN in other territories -- however, a recent news brief from unofficial PlayStation blog Three Speech hints that Europeans will receive the demo soon -- albeit in a fairly unconventional manner.
Three Speech reports that random European PS3 owners will be receiving vouchers this coming Thursday via email which will allow them to download the Pacific Rift demo on PSN. We're not entirely sure why Sony decided upon this "Golden Ticket" approach for the demo's release -- sure, the hype built from all the exclusivity will likely pay off, but will all the disappointment felt by the unchosen really be worth it?

Makes me wish I remembered my password for my alternate European e-mail account...

Qore... why are people paying for the privilege of viewing ads?
Averna @ Sep 7th 2008 7:37PM
Its an online mag. people buy the official Playstation Mag every month. I dont see why people are complaining, if I could buy it, i would.

I bought the year subscription and its worth the ~$2.00 I spent per-issue. Developer interviews are interesting and the monthly mini-games are a nice waste of time. The main reason I subscribed to Quore was for the betas.
The advertisements are not very obtrusive, as they are all theatrical trailers and game videos (with the exception of the 2 second burger king ad).
If you are complaining about paying for the privilege of viewing ads, then I feel sorry for you, as almost everything we look at now has an advertisement in it.

Well 2.00 bucks an issue which some have beta included is an awesome deal! Sony is like releasing so many betas this fall for most of their games this Fall. I mean, you don't see free betas too often that are this easy to get. Most betas require you to reserve games like COD5 or MGO, some require you to sign up to yearly services like File PLanet's Red Faction Beta, and some require just chance (HOME, Resistance, Crackdown's Halo 3 code, COD4's tokens last year, etc). $2.00 for to guarantee beta is the best deal ever, even if you don't care about the magazine.

That's pretty neat, I guess.
Shape @ Sep 7th 2008 5:57PM
That's just stupid.

'Cuz i've got a golden ticket
I've got a golden twinkle in my eye...
Hyams @ Sep 7th 2008 6:40PM
I guess it's so all those non-Quore buyers won't be able to just download the EU demo.
I hope I get a voucher.

It makes me happy to just pay $50 a year for Xbox live instead of all this mess.
Averna @ Sep 7th 2008 7:39PM
Makes me glad I spend that extra $50 a year on... ya know... games.

I dunno about that, obviously the demo will go public closer to the games release. If this kind of thing keeps PSN free (allowing one game demo get two bursts of hype etc), then its not to bad. Is annoying that this is really to level the playingfield with the non-free US demo tho, why cant SCEE just release Qore in Europe and be done with it.
Hyams @ Sep 7th 2008 8:02PM
You'd rather pay money than maybe not get to play a demo for a month?
Well, lucky for you Americans, you *can* pay money if you don't want to wait a month to play this demo.
j.howlett @ Sep 7th 2008 10:56PM
makes me happy that if i choose not to subscribe to a magazine that offers bonuses it doesn't effect my ability to play the online portion of games i buy. the cable bill is a different story
umm....hello??? @ Sep 7th 2008 8:49PM
I can wait for the demo when it becomes available for everyone....besides, PURE seems much more interesting to me now...
mietha CAG @ Sep 8th 2008 2:23AM
It's a fucking demo to the sequel to a shitty game. Do they seriously think anyone cares that much?
Invisible Robot Meat @ Sep 8th 2008 7:45AM
Motorstorm rules, and you are a loser. Isn't it fun to state opinions as facts? And everyone really cares what you think.
Toasty Toaster Man @ Sep 8th 2008 3:53AM
Master Chief?
youhavemail @ Sep 8th 2008 4:35AM
So the demo is done.. and they don't want everyone to try it? Why?
Well I'll tell you.
HYPE.
There is something special about being the first and only few to play the game. Only the dedicated people to buy into the demo are going to praise it thus creating a hype and a want by those who haven't. Smart marketing team, however the game will fall short of everything from gameplay and graphics to sound and functionality.
I'm sure it will sell though, like the first one. However instead of selling by simply being a "pack in" game and thriving of the players thrust for a good game, the 2nd installment of the series will sell to those who have lowered their standards of racing games by making themselves warrant their purchase of the first.

Qore is effectively cutting deals with game publishers to delay demos to the general public so that they can make a buck.
While this is tolerable when it comes to gaming magazines since they provide a physical disc with content that would otherwise be unavailable to the end user, Qore is different because they are providing demos that would otherwise be freely available through PSN and using it to push their product.

Anyone want to swap their Motorstorm demo code for my SOCOM:Confrontation Beta code?
Reply if you do!
Cheers
