With nearly every new Zelda title, there's been revolutionary advancements. The Legend Zelda established open-ended gameplay long before you were beating up prostitutes in Liberty City. The Adventure of Link added expanded combat and a robust town system. A Link to the Past defined the word "epic." And The Ocarina of Time is an experience that often defies words. Some say that the Zelda titles represent the best series of all-time, and that's a tough argument to rebut. Yet it's not difficult to argue that The Wind Waker and The Twilight Princess made shorter jumps. Now put away your Triforce-embroidered knives; those games are incredible works of art, each with a unique presentation that distinguishes them from each other and other games in the series. But the fact remains: the Zelda series has been slowing down a bit. Just ask Shiggy himself.
Fear not, Ganon-slayers. I strongly feel that Link's quests are far too relevant to evaporate from gaming completely. Especially with the forthcoming Wii MotionPlus, 1:1 sword fighting could throw the series a lifeline. In practice, an updated version of The Twilight Princess with better graphics and new puzzles would probably sell reasonably well year after year. But that doesn't sound good enough for the Zelda team. It'll be interesting to see what they cook up for us next.
