Hopefully it's more master of puppets and less saint anger.

From what I have heard, it is a step up from Re/Load and St. Anger. I really hope it tops the Black album and gets into Classic Metallica area, but I need to listen to more songs of it to come up with a good opinion.

It is definitely better than the Black album and everything after. Most if not all of the songs are on youtube now since the album leaked. Personally I would go with

1. Master of Puppets
2. Justice
3. Ride The Lightning
4. Death Magnetic
5. Kill em All

Most after hearing it will probably put it under kill em all at 5 but I personally enjoyed this one more. The fact that it's even being included in most people's discussions as best metallica album says enough about it.

it's more like the new stuff than the old stuff. Not that that makes it instantly bad, but there's nothing about it that will make you think master of puppets or AJFA. It sounds like their last few albums with a new producer, one who liked their old sound and tried everything he could to get them back there. They're just not that band anymore though.

oh and I've heard all the songs off it and of them, only one really got my blood pumping. The others were just kinda meh, good production and all but nothing that moved me.

Well... Metallica. Very good band, but I don't consider them as good as other bands.

I definitely prefer Deep Purple, Rainbow, Motorhead, etc. a lot better than Metallica.

I'm really not hyped at all by their new album.

Go into it with very low "St. Anger" level of expectations and you'll be very pleasantly surprised. Definately a throw back to their old albums but still staying current. Not a new classic but definately a good listen. Kudos to them.

It sounds like St. Anger with guitar solos. I think it sucks. No way I would pay 1 cent for it. It actually sounds like Megadeth a lot, and not the good Megadeth.

I heard the new single on the radio yesterday, it seems like they are just trying way too hard to sound like the old metallica. Old bastards.

I'm assuming you mean the day that never comes. Yeah that's probably one of the weaker songs on the album (although still a good song IMO).

What they've done with this album is follow a similar pattern to their old ones. The first and last songs are faster and more thrash-like. The 4th song (The one you likely heard) is a ballad type song, like One and Unforgiven and Sanitarium and the 9th song is an instrumental.

They also went back to having ridiculously long songs too, but with solos this time unlike St anger. The shortest song is like 5:01 and the longest is just under 10 minutes with most averaging in the 6:30-8 minute range.

I downloaded the album (sorry lars, I'll still buy it!) and it's fantastic. Not 1 bad song on there. Too bad I traded in GH 3 a long time ago and now have to spend even more money to get it.

Anyway, they've really returned to their old selves with this album, probably about as much as possible given the fact that they're all like 45 years old and fucked up from all the drugs and alcohol. I really look forward to playing it.

You better hope so, because fuck if Activision is going to let you buy individual, unbundled tracks.

I am going to be the first to say it but...."Fuck Metallica!" use to be a fan but ever since they decided that millions of dollars was worth more then the music they make. I lost all the respect i once had for them. There the biggest sell outs, since Sugar Ray and that really bad.

You should at least listen to the new music before using that incredibly tired sellout argument. Everyone knows they did already, and nothing on their new album would be considered radio friendly (if only for the length of the songs) or MTV friendly.

Now the guys from Harmonix should come out and be like "There forwards compatibility is a joke. I bet once they saw that our game had DLC compatible with both games they rushed to see how fast they could get it in their game."

"We're proud to be setting a precedent..." gimme a break guy.

If I wanted one song I would still have to pay $17 for (Kill) them all. Activision knows how to please.

What song should I buy from Peace Sells?

That's odd, I only now took a proper look at it and figured it was iron filings. I'd previously figured it was drawn to represent the angst of ageing rockers by an angry man armed with a pencil.

It's not bad, really.

It's just that they could have called it something else and nobody would have noticed. There's no horn intro, and no 'What I've felt, what I've known...' chorus.

Nice.. A bit on the expensive side, but the fact that you can bring it over to World Tour and get the full band experience from it makes it a pretty sweet deal. Especially if you jumped on the Best Buy Pre-order deal and get the stuff for free.

Gonna do some full-album price comparison as Price per song.

RB's Screaming for Vengeance and The Cars albums - $1.67
GH's Death Magnetic - $1.63
RB's Doolittle - $1.36

Competitive DLC pricing? Finally. I could see Harmonix releasing Death Magnetic for 1440 MSP. Very reasonable.

Good Job Neversoft. Now, just release the songs as individual downloads, and you have fixed half of your DLC problems.

Haha, it's a vagina. There, it's been said.

This is a very good Metallica album. Don't even try to tell me that 'Suicide and Redemption' isn't heavy is sh*t, folks.

Don't base the whole album just on The Day that Never Comes (which isn't a horrible song). There's a lot more to like on here. The riffs are pretty badass and Kirk's solos are the best they've been in a long time.

metallica is one of the bands that have made DRM an everyday reality. No thank you.. I will not support this crap.
Its funny when a band wants to sell a 20 year old album for the rest of their life... probably because they know their old music is the ONLY GOOD METALLICA MUSIC, and it is not that great, but more hyped by the public to popularity.

MetallicA lyrics seem to have hit a new low. Cyanide's chorus is just plain awful. Although, I do agree with the words. MetallicA has already died, they just need to stop recording.

Some bands really need to quit recording new material (Rolling Stones, AeroSmith, etc.).

The album is fantastic. My only gripe is they mixed it really loud, so it's like a wall of sound. I prefer a little more dynamic range... but overall it's awesome.
