Dead Space dev diary: Zero-gravity gameplay
Not that we needed any more convincing, but this video has made it quite clear that Dead Space is going to float our boat. Also, our space crates, malformed monsters, severed heads and whatever other detritus happens to be in a room robbed of its gravity. It's nice to know that despite the game's claustrophobic interiors and highly pressurized situations, we'll occasionally be set free from Newton's irritating pull and soar right into the gaping maw of space.

Can't wait for this game! nice new gameplay elements, graphics look oh so pretty, nice gore value, lots of potential for nerding out on tweaking your equipment as well.
why has this been pushed back to December 12th in the UK? (according to amazon.co.uk)?
also, Michael Condrey looks like the religious nut from the film 'Contact'who suicide bombs the 1st intergalactic thingymebob.
syrik zero @ Sep 9th 2008 8:48PM
He does look like that guy hahaha. Wasn't that Gary Busey's son?
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Sep 9th 2008 8:44PM
comments system fucked up?
syrik zero @ Sep 9th 2008 8:49PM
That was meant for your other comment but I guess that proves your statement =D
Colin @ Sep 9th 2008 8:49PM
Ok. NOW I am excited for this game!! Previously it just looked like a shooter in space; nothing terribly new, but the anti-gravity looks really sweet...
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Sep 9th 2008 8:55PM
Jake Busy, lol

Anyway those developers looks like douchebags but I don't know why.
syrik zero @ Sep 9th 2008 9:17PM
Douchebags make all the best things! I have no examples...
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Sep 9th 2008 9:20PM
This game better be fucking terrifying. I need a new scary game for Halloween.
BioRebel @ Sep 9th 2008 9:29PM
Already saw this in Crysis. Quit playing it up as something thats never been done.
edgore @ Sep 9th 2008 9:49PM
Paraphrase" "We found out how much things weigh in Zero Gravity"
That statement is FILLED with win.
Game looks awesome however.
Mikeymike @ Sep 9th 2008 10:49PM
Lol. I had the exact same reaction when I heard that.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Sep 10th 2008 5:50AM
Mass (Kilograms) x Gravity (Newtons per kilogram) = Weight (Newtons)
Obviously the weight any object can't be null in a zero-gravity environment.
Thargis Anvilmar @ Sep 9th 2008 9:53PM
Looks positively awesome; hope his flashlight is powered up all the time tho, looks like it might get a little dark in places.
MikeO. @ Sep 9th 2008 10:29PM
Mr. Michael Condrey in the video here looks like a creepy mix of CliffyB and Fabio. I'm terrified.
Ranus Studios @ Sep 9th 2008 10:35PM
I dunno. It doesn't look as cool as it sounds. Maybe if you could shut off those booties.
MikeO. @ Sep 9th 2008 10:48PM
I can only imagine the headaches that writing a walkthrough would cause when using zero gravity areas. =P
"Make the ceiling the ground, walk around this corner, jump at a 90 degree angle and you'll see the exit to your left."
Or even worse, the frustrations of someone who gets confused and has someone over your shoulder telling you which way to go.
The animation of him aiming while hitting the angled group looked funky because it was like an old school skateboard game or something. I hope they can smooth out some of the animations of being partially on elevated terrain (much like Ubisoft did with Assassin's Creed).
I liked that Altair would raise one leg to stand on the top of a roof while resting the other below him. It's just infinitely more realistic than standing level all the time, which the character here seems to do.
Also, I hope it doesn't suffer from what Mass Effect did where every time you ran upon an evelated area (even a few inches) the character instantly popped up on top of something. I wanna see them make a realistic step upward. Is it possible at this point to make a game with realistic stair stepping?
I know it's a bunch of silly complaints, but it would make a huge difference in a game which allows you so much freedom to jump to and crawl around uneven terrain.
umm....hello??? @ Sep 9th 2008 11:48PM
I'm looking forward to this game...great for around Halloween giving a fright. I'm glad that they only made about 20% zero-g environment.
ps- the only games that need walkthroughs are FinalFantasy games for all the crazy hidden crap.
kigamoosh @ Sep 10th 2008 8:40AM
Seems like EA is making good on a Prey's promise.

For the record, Newton was wrong about gravity.
Mort85 @ Sep 10th 2008 5:27AM
so do they have a gym in their office or something cuz i swear to christ those are the most ripped devs i have ever seen, and im straight.
nickels @ Sep 10th 2008 8:08AM
this looks good, like an advancement on prey :) and i loved prey
ExMcloud @ Sep 10th 2008 9:08AM
WOW....why does this game look like I have to buy it....Seriously?
comtar @ Sep 10th 2008 9:36AM
"Zero Gravity is different from regular gravity."
That statement is full of obvious.
Blazur @ Sep 10th 2008 9:56AM
This game reminds me so much of the movie Event Horizon. Hopefully it's really freaky. It looks like the environment could rival that of BioShock, just in a different atmosphere.

Dude looks like a lady.
