Infogrames, Namco Bandai strike distribution deal
After getting the unfamiliar taste of profit out of its mouth, Infogrames is hungry for more. To this end, the parent of oft-addled Atari announced that it has cozied up to fellow publisher Namco Bandai to handle distribution of the latter's titles in both Europe and Asia. GI.biz writes that Infogrames' distribution activities in those regions will be consolidated as a result of the agreement, with Namco Bandai taking ownership of some 34 percent while leaving the remainder in the hands of Infogrames itself.
According to the report, Infogrames expects to find its wallet pleasantly filled with added revenue as a result of the deal thanks to added efficiency and every Economics major's favorite phrase -- economies of scale. The report further notes that Infogrames is also open to partnering with other companies over similar deals in the pursuit of greater profitability, no doubt helped when not weighed down by any pesky big budget monkeyshines.

No, I guess not. What I understood is that Namco-Bandai is teaming up with infogrames for publishing. Just more publishing ino those mentioned regions. I don't think it's of great interest to us gamers.

Maybe now we can get the 3 Tales DS games here?

I agree with what you said.
THREE tales games.
There's even a bloody Tales game on the PSP! ON THE PSP! I mean, it's not like the DS isn't selling very well, or that RPGs are just unheard of on the DS....

As the guys at the IGN podcast have taught us, "Infogrames is entertainment".
I don't see the issue with big companies merging so long as there are enough competitors still out there pushing for quality. Why not suck up the dead or dying companies, obtain rights to those games, and pump them dry?
Either way, it doesn't sound like this particular merger is going to affect any of us very much.
It only becomes an issue when the mergers create a slight monopoly.

It isn't a merger.
All it really means is NamcoBandai will have a strong publishing presence in territories where they currently have very little. It's a good move for them as they no longer have to fish around for publishers on a per-game or per-franchise basis. Infogrames will obviously be earnng some much needed cash. Finally, it's a good move for gamers as well, in theory it will mean more consistent and faster release of BandaiNamco games.
