It's hard to actually use the word lore in association with Mega Man. That's a word we generally save for Star Wars, Star Trek, Middle Earth and maybe LOST, but it's appropriate when pertaining to series character designer Keiji Inafune's mini-Q&A with the Capcom blog. In it, Inafune (who also produced Dead Rising and the Onimusha series) answers important, nitpicky questions about Zero's ability to kill, the relationship between Zero and Sigma and its significance and Dr. Wily's (non) presence in the Mega Man X series.
Also noted is that, given the chance, Inafune would've loved to see Mega Man in Smash Bros. Brawl. What you won't see, however, is Mega Man with co-op multiplayer. "I think this is quite difficult--even close to impossible with the current style of Mega Man," he said. Our suggestion: Player 1 moves, Player 2 aims the arm. Use some cheesy plot device about Mega Man's arm being possessed. Hey, it worked in Metal Gear Solid.

If you pay attention to Metal Gear Solid 4, you'll know that Ocelot was never took over by Liquid. He just hypnotized himself to believe he was Liquid.
Snake had to beat the shit outta of him to get him to be Ocelot =)

Sorry, but every time I see Keiji Inafune's name lately, I want to punch him in the face. Megaman 9 is helping, but we'll see. And let's face it... considering how Snake got into Brawl (Kojima calling Sakurai up and asking nicely), that urge rises greatly when he complains that no-one asked him while he was sitting on his thumbs.

One of the MechWarrior games used a similarly goofy method of co-op - player one made the mech walk while the other rotated the upper body and controlled the weapons. It was not very fun single or co-op.
Though, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo try to shoehorn something like that into a Wii gimmick :\

One person as Megaman and one as Zero, or Roll, or someone...

co-op could be done split screen or like contra. online co-op would be kind of easy. it also depends on level design so i think local split screen or online co-op would be best.

What in the hell is everyone's obsession with having co-op in everything?

It bugs me too, man. Can't anyone be happy with just a solitary experience once in a while?

Oh sorry, j.howlett, I was writing that in response to the interview question, not your comment; I didn't even see that you wrote that.

 I don't even see how MM would be fun in co-op. It seems like it would just get really tedious - it's not like the extra firepower would really help much. My friends and I still just switch off on levels, which works well enough for me.

I agree. I have the same qualms about them trying to shoehorn multiplayer into everything
Online play was a "fad," just not in the way that Nintendo was trying to spin it. Online play was a fad once in that it was as much of a novelty as a feature back in the early 6th generation
Much like making absolutely everything 3D was a "fad" back in the early 5th. Both are simply expected features now, but the effects of the online fad are still being felt with the inclusion of co-op and multiplayer often into places where they are unwelcome.
Of course, also into places where they're extremely welcome

I for one would love to see Megaman do something like Castle Crashers. Side scrolling levels, bosses, weapons, powerups. Team-based special attacks perhaps? What more do you need? Changes the formula to a little more like Contra maybe, nothing drastic. So I don't think Inafune-san is thinking about this hard enough.

It sounds like you want a completely different game with Mega Man pasted on.

Good point. Those games sucked, though, seeming to illustrate the point that Mega Man's face isn't good enough to make a game.
Alright, I confess - I liked Battle Network 1 and 2, and I think Network Transmission was severely underrated. The rest of them, though, were garbage - not to mention they had no place being Mega Man games.

He should've explained why Mega Man 6 was skipped in PAL regions.
