Yep, this PSN shooter, complete with Ye Olde School side-scrolling and – as the trailer boldly promises – the ability to "upgrade your weapons" (how novel) is from the land of Nietzsche. Fortunately, this re-imagination of the 2007 PC game has been updated with new graphics, runs at 1080p, and actually looks pretty fun. Should development continue unabated, the game will have you himmelsstürmering all the way to the PlayStation Store in Oktober.
PSN shooter has funny name, scrolls sideways

As a fan of the 16-bit and 1995 or so arcade shooters, this looks great. No PSP, but I'd like to play this game.

Galaga wasn't a side-scroller.
Galaga was a top-down shooter, maybe you're thinking of Gradius?

Einhander anyone?

Hmmm, as I recall, Einhander had a funny German sounding name, droning synth and drum beat for a soundtrack and upgradeable weapons too.

It isn't about the number of stages: it's about how fucking hard each level is.
Example: 12 STAGES IN CONTRA?!! *cries like a grown man*

The music composer is indeed German. (Rafael Dyll - http://www.soniqfactory.com/) Beyond that though I hope you're joking, what with the game being by "eastasiasoft" and sold by play-asia.
Here, have some comments on the PC version.

Play-asia came up with the concept for the game but SideQuest Studios is the company that is actually developing the game. eastasiasoft is the publisher.
Sidequest is based out of Cincinnati, OH.
Pretty stange partnership all around.

This is only coming to the PSN? Wow for the first time a game that I want that is not coming onto the 360 or xbox live. I finally feel so left out :(

For all who care the title means "Mercenary X - Sky Conqueror" at least when translated to keep some meaning.
Unfortunately not my type of game.

This looks quite good. Finally have another PSN game besides Stardust. Would have got 1942 but only 5 levels? Screw that.

I am really impressed by this. I am not big into these type of shooting games but I will buy this day one.

"CAN YOU HANDLE THEM ALL?!?!!?"
lol this game looks like it could be ok. i would need a demo first (not letting 1942 happen to me again) but it looks like something i would play.

Looks very R-Typeish to me. Could be very good but these gameas are all about precision movement, if the controls aren't spot on you are screwed. Also if you are playing it on a LCD TV the input lag or refresh rate could become an issue.

I really don't get it, hasn't this game been made a hundred times before? Aren't all the R-Types and Gradiuses the same exact side scrolling shooter with upgradeable weapons and a whole friggin lot going on at once? I love shooters or shmups, don't get me wrong (and I'm definitely buying this one), but I feel like I'm the only that notices it's practically the same game over and over again. What am I missing?

I asked my german co-worker what Himmelsstürmer translated to and this is what he said:
"It is kind of a slang or idiom and there is no translation for it. literally it would be translated like sky striker. The word Himmelsstürmer describes someone who sets a goal that apparently would not be able to achieve. For this person the real difficulties on his way don't mean a hindrance."
A damn good name for a side scrolling shooter. I can't wait for this game to come out. I loves me some brainless side scrolling shootem-ups.

You know, for a low budget game I was expecting something a bit more creative core mechanics-wise than something flashy and fancy (since low-budget projects have more creative freedom to experiment with innovation due to the lesser risk). I have to admit though that by keeping it simple to known formulas, they've really polished the presentation on it and since it's just a video, I can't knock it down on gameplay balance and difficulty.
Slight remark though, I really don't care about the wallpapered backstory they're promoting. It's a shoot-em-up dammit (co-op = always cool)!
