Rumor: Wii, DS headed to India on Sept. 30
If a post on The Angry Pixel is to be believed, the not-infinitesimal number of people in India are about to be swept into the wonderful world of waggle, with the Wii rearing its slender head in the country on September 30th. Joining it will be Nintendo's touchy-feely portable system, the DS, which has astonishingly managed to avoid the birthplace of bun-eating sensation Benny Lava all this time.
Nintendo's pair will allegedly be distributed by Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL, with the DS fetching a price of INR 7,990 ($178) and the Wii going for a lofty INR 19,990 ($445). Have you been high today?

I know that China's as hard of a market for consoles to break into as South Korea, with the dominance of PC gaming with the added problem of their rampant piracy
India's another matter, though. What kind of numbers did the PS2 move there?
Rohit Kapur @ Sep 9th 2008 4:52PM
Geez, what does Nintendo think, that the people of India are clueless about the rest of the world? You can get a friggin' PS2 here for about Rs. 8,000 now. This is just plain unfair, much like Apple with their iPhone priced at Rs. 32,000.
LOOK, WE'RE A BILLION PEOPLE, AND WE HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET. STOP BILKING US OUT OF OUR MONEY.

Doesn't India use the rupee? It's too perfect.
Amol @ Sep 9th 2008 8:36PM
You know, I gave a friend an NDS when I went to India. You know how much it costs at the current exchange rate? Rs. 5250-odd. And if Nintendo is doing it, it definitely should be lower than that. Like maybe Rs. 3000-4000. It's still pretty expensive for a game console though.
Superstar90 @ Sep 9th 2008 9:18PM
well if indians can't afford it, they can just keep cutting grass and breaking stones to find enough rupees.
Ash @ Sep 9th 2008 10:22PM
Hahahahaha. I thought at first that your comment was racist or something, but then I saw your avatar.
Lol, I'm stupid.

There's a joke in here somewhere about the outsourcing of casual games, but I'll be damned if I can find it.
