The Force Unleashed demo breaks XBLM download record

Boasting further, LucasArts adds that together with the game's PSN demo, The Force Unleashed appetizer has been downloaded more than 2.3 million times worldwide. Most impressive, though we wonder how many people gave up their place in line camped out waiting for the game's September 16 release in order to actually try it out.

Record of how many people you can kill with boxes. I wish they just made another KOTOR game...
Fosssil @ Sep 10th 2008 8:45PM
"I wish they would just make a new KOTOR game ... that isn't an MMO."
Yes, I agree.
syrik zero @ Sep 10th 2008 8:55PM
Haha yes, that is what I meant =D
BananaBoat @ Sep 10th 2008 9:13PM
Agreed, I'd love another KOTOR, but only if it's not an MMO.
Also, The Force Unleashed is a terrible game.
theturtle363 @ Sep 10th 2008 9:13PM
as a guy whose entire XBL profile is written in Mandalorian, I agree
theturtle363 @ Sep 10th 2008 9:36PM
NO! NOT TO THAT ONE ABOVE ME! I DO NOT AGREE TO THAT! DAMN YOU MARIOKIPZ!
BananaBoat @ Sep 10th 2008 9:42PM
The deed is done. Ye agreed with me, as witnessed by all those who set eyes upon this internets web page.
DarkNessBear @ Sep 10th 2008 10:16PM
This game is garbage... I was SOOOO excited for it the demo was so disappointing. And I hear you have to fight guys with FORCE SHIELDs so you cannot even use force powers on them... Lame
Eh @ Sep 11th 2008 12:24AM
"I wish they just made another Jedi Knight game"
fixed
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Sep 12th 2008 3:04AM
Force Unleashed MMO?
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Sep 10th 2008 8:37PM
Funny, I was watching Arrested Development's student election episode and the Star Wars scene was playing just as I opened up Joystiq =p
syrik zero @ Sep 10th 2008 8:56PM
That was the greatest show that was ever canceled... I miss that show so much
Anticrawl @ Sep 10th 2008 9:36PM
@syrik zero
Clearly you never watched Firefly OR Freakazoid!
Family Guy and Futurama are both honorable mentions.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Sep 11th 2008 10:18AM
@Anti-crawl
I should smack you across the face for even mentioning Futurama with the shit that is Family guy. Not even pre-cancellation Family Guy compares to the genius that is Futurama.
Deeznuts420 @ Sep 11th 2008 11:52AM
Ahh phillip j. fry, how i miss you so :(
syrik zero @ Sep 11th 2008 2:57PM
I own all of Futurama. That is one of my favorite shows also. But it's a different level than Arrested Development
Ihavepants @ Sep 12th 2008 12:12AM
What aboot Invader Zim?
dark_inchworm @ Sep 10th 2008 8:41PM
I haven't played this yet. I've been too busy unleashing the force of my lightsaber on my woman.
Yes, you could even say it glows.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Sep 10th 2008 8:43PM
Like Monopoly?
Wait...no, that's not it...
Ihavepants @ Sep 10th 2008 8:44PM
No, you are not Pornstar-Randolf.
KeenCommander @ Sep 10th 2008 8:47PM
Strong contender for reply of the month above...^^
syrik zero @ Sep 10th 2008 8:59PM
With your inch long worm? Sounds like a kiddie game
syrik zero @ Sep 10th 2008 9:10PM
And wasn't it Rudolf?
BananaBoat @ Sep 10th 2008 9:14PM
Yes, it was Rudolph the red cocked reindeer
dark_inchworm @ Sep 10th 2008 9:19PM
@syrik zero:
blaaahhh... almost any night I play on Live, I hear at least every once in a while, "dark inchworm? you must be a black guy with a small penis, lul"
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 10th 2008 11:32PM
dark inchworm?
what are you some black guy with a tiny cock?
Ihavepants @ Sep 11th 2008 2:44AM
Haha oh wow, how did I mess up the reindeer's name.
VOTE ME DOWN, I FAILED HARD.
dark_inchworm @ Sep 11th 2008 8:27AM
At least you confessed to being wrong. Most people around here don't have that kind of capacity.
Solid Chief @ Sep 11th 2008 9:19AM
Double bladed?
Obie @ Sep 10th 2008 8:44PM
I wish there was a stat of how many people got turned OFF the game. The game played almost identical to the last gen game "Psi-Ops".
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 8:59PM
I noticed that too, but I didn't get very far in psi-ops so I cant say how much it was like.
ice~ @ Sep 10th 2008 9:03PM
sadly, i got turned off by the demo...i feel i'll beat the game in a week and never play it again, whereas in rock band 2(which i decided to use my $60 bucks on instead) will probably give me ten times more replay value and fun than TFU ever could have....IM NOT saying its a bad game though =P
Anticrawl @ Sep 10th 2008 9:40PM
I got turned off from the game the moment the quietly whispered on the internet, "We lied and lead you on, we cut multiplay..... also we are fireing our lead talent, cause we are cheap like that."
I was looking forward to some Xbox Live innovative multiplayer to finally bring me away from Shadowrun. Sadly this will not be that game.
Dr Scientist @ Sep 10th 2008 11:07PM
Well, I actually _liked_ Psi-Ops and was turned off by TFU demo, hoping it would be more like Psi-Ops. The lifting and throwing of enemies and objects felt awfully imprecise to me, though, TFU might be a rental for me.
Rob @ Sep 10th 2008 11:17PM
I was another one turned off by the demo. I was planning on getting it, now I can wait until the price drops.
I agree with others, light saber feels wrong, and I never got the hang of aiming boxes at anyone.
Pink Lemon @ Sep 11th 2008 4:00AM
Wow I am so glad that other people feel the same thing.
Within the first minute I said to myself, "Oh snap it's Psi-Ops, this is awesome."
Kinda bummed though because I couldn't kill the AT-ST. :/
xGeneral DEATHx @ Sep 11th 2008 9:49AM
@ Anticrawl:
Do many folks still play Shadowrun? I wouldn't mind giving it a go on the cheap.
Anticrawl @ Sep 11th 2008 3:45PM
Shadowrun has a pretty dedicated community and big enough to where there will consistantly be a good 25 public matchmade games running at all times of the day. The unfortunate aspect of the price drop though is parents getting little Timmy a copy of the game because it's cheap. It was perhaps the most mature Live community (which isn't saying much of anything) until recently.
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 8:58PM
This games force powers are so fun and satisfy, I just wish they where implemented better. God of war camera does not equal good force power controls, and then there is the lightsaber..... God did they gimp it.
Needless to say, its great trying to stack tie fighters on top of each other to get to a power up. Only to find there was shuttle you could easily climb up. Sure the shuttle was probably faster, but I like my way was better!!!!
syrik zero @ Sep 10th 2008 9:02PM
And that power up only lasted 15 seconds so it faded before you really killed anyone...
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 9:05PM
and it took me 5 minutes to get to said power up.
Clinton RRoD sept.3 @ Sep 10th 2008 8:59PM
well i played it and liked it but im still sad about the fate of the multi player
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 9:05PM
and it took me 5 minutes to get to said power up.
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 9:05PM
god damn reply
Sora @ Sep 10th 2008 9:15PM
Consider it damned.
Hyams @ Sep 10th 2008 9:12PM
I played it.
The aweful aiming made it hard for me to really kill the people I wanted to. A slight nudge on the right analog stick and I'd suddenly find myself leaping after someone I hadn't even know was there a second earlier.
Also, I hate how slowly you aim the stuff you want to throw. You're standing there like a gimp whilst you slowly make some random box hover into the correct position for you to be able to hurl it at the enemies. Four times out of five I was shot before I was able to aim the box properly, and so dropped it.
Also, whose idea was it to make the standard attack button and the button to iniate the QTEs the same? I would be in the middle of hammering SQUARE only to suddenly find I had iniated a QTE, which I then immiediately failed because I was still hammering SQUARE, rather than pressing the required TRIANGLE.
It's not a bad game, really. The demo has loads of moments that brought a massive grin to my face, but it's plagued by all these annoying little problems that condemn it to a rent, rather than a buy for me.
jimmygotsmack @ Sep 10th 2008 9:43PM
The QTE for me ruin what could possibly have been a great exercise in game play. For example, I wanted to cut the Chicken walker in half, instead of the QTE at the end of the fight, you just do it yourself with one of your combos.
I mean you already do a downward slash with your lightsaber when you double jump and attack anyway, wouldn't that be more awesome if that happened every time? Would it make the game to easy? I don't know, I just know it would have kicked more ass.
Also, why does the lightsaber not work like a lightsaber. I want my stormtroopers armless when I'm done with them.
I hope that the mystic, taking down a star destroyer with the force, that was hyped to hell in this game, doesn't turn out to be a QTE that's just you smashing the x button "Ever console has an X button Yeah for ambiguity, except the wii, for some strange reason, they didn't want one there.".
I still am planning to buy and enjoy this game. I just wish they gave it, its own identity. Right now everyone sees it as a GoW clones. "and for good reason."
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 10th 2008 11:40PM
@Hyams
The aiming and throwing of objects really annoyed me until I realized that it was much more effective to quickly grab objects and fling them (flick the controller stick) in a general direction. I think this was the way the designers intended the game to be played. You can run your character down a hallway flinging boxes and opponents as you come close to them. Its kind of cool actually, I felt like I was tearing sh*t up pretty well
My solution to the cumbersome force broblem ran into a snag when I was fighting the AT-ST (is that what it is, or an AT-AT). It was nearly impossible for me to grab and object, turn and throw accurately in close range. I ended up running around in a circle and hacking away with the light saber.
@jimmygotsmack
I think they would have had to settle for a higher violence rating if the light saber dismembered people. Although I the trade off would have been worth it.
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 11th 2008 12:18AM
Just thought of something:
It might be that modifying the euphoria engine to incorporate dismemberment would have been to difficult to implement.
This is why I wish someone would do research into developing better graphics with voxles. All these problems would be solved.
Mr Khan @ Sep 10th 2008 9:14PM
So i take it that the game isn't without its flaws?
