World of Goo goes gold, Wiiware version getting 'final touches'
2D Boy's stick 'em and stack 'em puzzle game is finally complete, with the PC version being sent off to be duplicated and transferred to thousands of distractingly shiny discs. You can expect to see World of Goo slouching happily on a retail shelf during the first week of November, according to the indie developer's blog. You might as well pick it up while you're in the game shop -- we know you're going to be in there for the next three months. With the Goo'd news out of the way, it's time to deliver the almost good news. Folks looking forward to the Wiiware version of World of Goo need hold out for only a bit longer. "We're putting the final touches on the Wiiware version," says 2D Boy, which hopes "to submit it to Nintendo for approval this month." Judging by the recent releases on the service, we doubt that'll pose much of an obstacle.

Looks pretty fun. I wonder if there will be a demo aside from the "tower of goo" concept thing.

Well, so far the WiiWare service has been very good, specially if you take in consideration that the service was released less than 4 months ago.
In that little time WiiWare released great titles: in my personal collection I have LostWinds, StrongBad, Dr. Mario, Final Fantasy, Defend your Castle, TokiTori, and Gyrostar.
Pretty good collection in just 3 months.

Fernando likes the latest wii game and thinks wiiware has been good despite popular opinion.
Give me a minute while I pick myself up off the floor from these stunning revelations.
Moptimus Slime @ Sep 10th 2008 7:36PM
Geez tmac has a point. Its not like I can go on metacritic and find a game that got an average review score and yet still managed to sell millions. Hell, lets even flip the formula around, I bet that you could spend days searching metacritic and not find a single game that got great reviews yet still sold poorly, since popularly opinion is always correct.
flameofdoom666 @ Sep 10th 2008 8:11PM
I was not a fan of GyroStar. I want my money back.
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 10th 2008 8:11PM
You missed my point which was he already decided he liked it before he even knew what it was about.

@ Moptimus Slime,
Many games with great reviews do bad.
Okami comes to mind. So does No More Heros. Oh yeah- a little game called Killer7.
samfish @ Sep 10th 2008 11:36PM
Wii Ware has been alright. Nothing fantastic along the lines of Geometry Wars or Castle Crashers, but it's not like there's only bad games on it, either. There are quite a few very good games on it now and coming out by the end of the year.
Just because there are no break out hits are on the service as of yet doesn't mean "popular opinion" (IE- tmac's opinion) says it's bad, though.
All of the above applies equally to PSN, by the way.
WiiWare does need a huge spotlight title, though. For better or worse, Nintendo will almost certainly be the ones to provide that title and show other publishers how it's done...again.

Comparing Wii Ware to the offerings on the PSN is disingenuous at BEST. We have full featured releases on PSN like Siren, Warhawk, Tekken 5, R&C Quest For Booty, SOCOM:Confrontation, Wipeout HD and GT:P in addition to all of the unique experiences only on the PSN. It's not even close.
With all of that said World Of Goo is easily the best Wii Ware title to be released. In fact, its probably in the top 10 of Wii games period. That's how bad the lineup is on that console.
samfish @ Sep 11th 2008 12:01AM
And yet, in spite of that, none of those games are making people say how fantastic PSN is the way the aforementioned Geometry Wars and Castle Crashers (and Braid) make people talk about how fantastic PSN is.
All three services have really good games. Yet it's very hard to argue that either WiiWare or PSN have the same kind of mindshare (which is what tmac is reacting to) that XBLA has...and this is BECAUSE neither service has a real breakout hit title yet.

"the way the aforementioned Geometry Wars and Castle Crashers (and Braid) make people talk about how fantastic PSN is."
Err, I meant XBLA, obviously.

Even if the PSN has not had the same vocal following that XBLA has had that still doesn't mean that it and Wii Ware are anywhere near the same in terms of quality titles.
There have been plenty of "gotcha" titles on the PSN -
I really don't even see where you are coming from or what exactly you are even trying to imply. Break it down a little slower for me. I am just missing the point you are trying to make. Honestly.

Maybe you and I don't talk to the same people. Because everyone I know still plays Warhawk on the daily and raves about the constant updates and new offerings keeping things fresh.
In terms of Braid - I have heard it go either way. It good some love from the media mainly because of the honesty of Blow Jon... - I mean Jonathan Blow. I didn't care for it at all. That's just me.
Castle crashers is a pretty fun game I will say that. Nothing spectacular but certainly not as bad as braid. However, considering the cost of the game and technical glitches it really falls short in some areas.
Geometry Wars - Sic. Nuff said. However, I feel that Super Stardust HD is just as fun and is also very high in production values. It also has a pretty big following and a lot of praise from gamers.
I can see someone saying that PSN is not quite as good as XBLA in terms of overall content. I do think the the PSN has the most diverse and interesting online games. The best games in terms of ratio of overall content compared to good games. 60% of the titles are not re-branded arcade classics like on XBLA. There are also full feature releases that you can buy on PSN like I mentioned in my earlier post. XBLA is getting this with the new Half Life episode. My point was that I can see the comparison between XBLA and PSN going in favor of XBLA. However, Wii Ware is not even close to an actual service yet. Only the diehards are interested in those titles. World of Goo is going to be the first big hit for the service - I hope so.
Just because PSN is not up to snuff with XBLA doesn't mean that the PSN & Wii Ware are at the same level. That's an insane conclusion to draw from anyone.
Mr Khan @ Sep 10th 2008 6:32PM
Experience has taught us that relative quality has little bearing on whether or not a game gets on these services. We saw it with a list of games that were rejected from XBLA that looked pretty good, certainly better than some of the shit up for delisting.
Wayne @ Sep 10th 2008 6:51PM
This game is about Johnny Rzeznik and his bandmates, right?
PhilipWPerna @ Sep 10th 2008 7:04PM
Private Joker: Leonard, if Hartman finds us here, we'll be in a World of Goo.
Private Gomer Pyle: I AM ... in a World ... of Goo.

Is this coming out for Steam?
flameofdoom666 @ Sep 10th 2008 7:56PM
Yes.

Looks pretty easy. Obviously to let the player become familiar with the controls. Kudos for the video. Got me even more hyped for this game.
