Double XP, half-price maps invade Modern Warfare this weekend

Attention cyber-soldiers: Infinity Ward has dropped word that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map pack will be made available for half price (400MS points) this weekend. Attempting to gain popularity for the struggling title, players will also be able to earn Double XP during ranked games beginning September 12, 12AM PDT and running through September 14 at midnight -- the same time-frame for the discounted maps.

If you'd like to show your support for a title that barely made a splash during its release downloading the four map package would be a nice start. Infinity Ward needs your help and are even offering Limited Edition Prestige gamerpics for free as yet another bonus. Save a developer. Help this struggling franchise. Oh, wait. We were thinking of Soldier Of Fortune for some reason. Never mind, Modern Warfare sold like a bajillion copies.

Ed. Note: Bajillion is SO a word.

Who's still playing this game and doesn't have the map packs?

All my friends play a lot of Call of Duty 4 and have the maps,I don't think it would be worth buying them now though for myself.

I don't actually own the game - more like borrowing it indefinitely from somebody who's Xbox broke (NOT RROD - so its $100 to fix, or so he says)

I dont want to spend the 400 MSP, since then it'd be a waste if I ended up having to give the game back the next day. Plus...the current maps are fine for me.

Imaging all the thing you've wasted 5 bucks on....

Thinking of the things I can save 5 bucks on.

I was totally too addicted on CoD4 and just burnt out on it. Sorry, I won't even spend $5 for them.

I don't have them yet. They're a rip off, if you look at the Carentan map on COD2, it's the exact same structure and layout as Chinatown except with pretty lights and some furniture. Oh and also its night time. thats pretty much it.

TBH, I still can't justify getting the maps. It won't change how much time I spend playing the game.

Nope, I think it is to milk the money from the stragglers before Gears of War 2 comes out.

i think CoD2 maps are still priced. i don't think these will ever be free.

The maps are not all that, If you don't have them now, you are not missing out on much.

only missing out on playing said maps with your friends. it's a real downer when you can't. might as well get em now if you still play it.

The double XP is nice, since I need to get over the hump for my next prestige.

Also gamerpics are always nice.

broadcast is cool... and i like chinatown, but everyone vetoes it. creek is fun if you like to sit in one place for 10 minutes. killhouse, never played it.

Everyone vetoes Chinatown because it is Campfest 2008.

I regret buying the new maps, Broadcast is the only decent map, but they are all horribly designed levels with campers around every corner and in every window.

When I was reading that I was wondering what the hell was up... Looks like tonight is going to be a pizza hut and COD4 night. Could you think of a better way to end my third week of grad school? I think not.

Too Human's been stuck in the 360 for the past 2 weeks so this'll be a good excuse to do something different. Levelling up.

You can all thank me for this as I just bought the map pack 10 days ago. Figures it would NOW go on sale.

New Playlist would be nice if they finally did it instead of just talking about it.
