Get COD4's Variety Map Pack for half price on 360
In addition to yet another "Double XP" weekend (Hey, who's complaining? Bring 'em on!) in the wings for Call of Duty 4, Activision and Infinity Ward are performing even more community service by offering Xbox 360 owners the four-level Variety Map Pack for 50% off. Normally 800
, the pack will be reduced to 400
for the duration of the weekend (Sept. 12-14 for the calendar-conscious). Really, if you play COD4 online, you need this.
Infinity Ward's Robert "Fourzerotwo" Bowling also brings word that the dev has poked and prodded Microsoft into putting the Prestige Gamer Pics back on the Xbox Live Marketplace, just in case you missed them during the last Live Fire weekend. We know what we'll be playing as soon as the whistle blows tomorrow night at Joystiq HQ. Go!-Go!-Go!
Update: "This is all going down exclusively on Xbox Live this weekend, but don't worry PS3 players, because we'll be doing the same for you guys; but due to schedule conflicts we couldn't do them back to back so the PS3 weekend will be closer to Sept the 18th (I'll have a dedicated post for our PS3 users on that event), but you can expect some of the same benefits and festivities," Bowling clarifies.

The thing is, this is the price it should have been in the first place.
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 11th 2008 11:25PM
Or free, like on the PC.
dmg @ Sep 11th 2008 11:36PM
Microsoft generally sets the prices, not the company publishing it. 800 MS points is entirely reasonable for 4 maps (although they could have been better for the price).

I'm so glad we have Microsoft PR in here, telling us that it's "entirely reasonable" to charge 800 MS points for maps that are free on PC and basically suck (they could have been better).
Good job. Don't forget to bill your 15 minutes hunting and pecking that propaganda into the comment field.
And please, give us some more of your spin later. We wouldn't know what to think without you.
Haggard (Free Mr.ESC!) @ Sep 12th 2008 5:08AM
Until all console multiplayer games can get custom maps and privately owned game servers; this is the kind of extortion you're going to be facing on a regular basis.
But obviously MS and Sony have no incentive to open up to the whole custom content scene unless like LBP it's used as a selling point.
Lone Starr @ Sep 11th 2008 11:01PM
Wow, I am bad at timing my purchases.
max @ Sep 11th 2008 11:15PM
could we get some new maps?
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 11th 2008 11:47PM
new maps are coming.
Averna @ Sep 12th 2008 4:02AM
For the low low price of 'too much'
wicko @ Sep 12th 2008 7:55AM
Hey, PC version of the maps are half price too! In fact, they're also 3/4 the price! 1/4 the price! 0/4 the*crash*
Gun Barrier (Gamer Tag) @ Sep 11th 2008 11:19PM
I feel like buying it, but... I also feel like they will be making it free one day. I can't decide.
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 11th 2008 11:51PM
That what I figured at first, but a quick look through the marketplace reveals that Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 3's premium maps are still selling for original MSP value.
Gun Barrier (Gamer Tag) @ Sep 12th 2008 12:17AM
thanks for that, but now i don't know if i'm even going to play the game anymore. Fable2 is just around the corner.
dmg @ Sep 11th 2008 11:34PM
I really hope nobody bitches about being an early adopter, unless they purchased them recently, which really sucks for them.
Da @ Sep 12th 2008 12:04AM
Good for anyone who has purchased the game recently (as anyone who plays online should already have these). But then again, the GOTY edition came with these.. either way, sounds like a nice gesture.

way to shun the ps3 community once again
atrimus @ Sep 12th 2008 12:51AM
Infinity Ward isn't the culprit: once again, the internet (*cough* joystiq *cough*)seemingly neglects to mention the fact that things aren't all that bad for PS3 owners.

FOXHOUND @ Sep 12th 2008 8:53AM
Honestly, buy the GOTY version or download the extra maps.
If you enjoyed COD4, it's worth supporting. I don't mind paying(read: "donating")a *little* extra to push good games.
WhoMe @ Sep 12th 2008 9:21AM
Yeah there are pretty, ahem, *selective* in their posts.
Like how they didn't mention Bioshock's DLC for PS3, or how they won't post about that huge insider article about the RRoD. It's still affecting plenty of people, even the newer versions and they knew even before it was on shelves that it was a problem, but why would people want to know that?
343 Guilty Fart @ Sep 12th 2008 12:52PM
Yes, because the entire Joystiq staff are on the payroll of Microsoft. The 'stiq is actually based in Redmond and they get paid a big bonus for every anti-PS3 post they run. It's all true.
JAH75157 @ Sep 12th 2008 12:56PM
oh i've had it since it came out, just thought it was rather stupid that the 360 users get it half off, not the ps3 folks.
JAH75157 @ Sep 12th 2008 1:00PM
guess i should read other users comment, or follow their links or whatever before i post. that update wasn't on the original post when i commented.
Sacsquash @ Sep 12th 2008 12:57AM
PS3 is getting their share on the 18th
The_Jerk @ Sep 12th 2008 3:07AM
OMG and I just got this map pack not even more than 2 days ago.. I should get a friggin credit for this >:O
Adeel @ Sep 12th 2008 7:54AM
What I want to know is, why do my downloaded maps disable when I dont log into xbox live for 30 days.
What a shitty way to do business microsoft.
Seanross @ Sep 12th 2008 3:49AM
I want the new maps, but I'd rather just save the money for World at War or RB2/GH:WT even
Haggard (Free Mr.ESC!) @ Sep 12th 2008 5:10AM
I'd wait for reviews on World at War first. Treyarch aren't terrible developers, but they're not incredible either. But Activision's marketing department are very good at what they do; and one of those things is making games look great.
theturtle363 @ Sep 12th 2008 10:52AM
i think the real problem with CoD 3 was they just didn't have time. I feel like the real problem was Activision rushing them out to press to make teh moniez
theturtle363 @ Sep 12th 2008 10:53AM
I'll probably buy them now, I play CoD 4 a lot but I don't care for a lot of the maps. I had heard that these ones weren't much better but by now something new would be nice
Ichi the One @ Sep 12th 2008 12:37PM
What people are forgetting is Nvidia sponsored these maps for PC users so they could have them for free. The maps originally weren't going to come out on PC at all. I doubt IW would have given the credit to Nvidia if Nvidia hadn't actually laid out the cash.
Ty @ Sep 12th 2008 12:45PM
(I hate Mario (gotta change that icon to Sonic or something))
Get a PC. Experience REAL AIM.
It's real.
Oh and updates are free on PC.
But I guess thats why you guys on console pay for them in the first place, because everything is noobified... and noobification takes precious time and money.
Ty @ Sep 12th 2008 12:55PM
And what I really mean by "pay for them" is XBOX people paying for LIVE.
The cost is noobification.

Ichi the One @ Sep 12th 2008 12:56PM
Typical idiot PC gamer kid.
Is that what they call aimbots? 'Real aim'? Because the PC version has a HUGE problem with aimbots.
343 Guilty Fart @ Sep 12th 2008 12:57PM
I play on a console because I prefer sitting on my couch in front of my large HDTV with 5.1 surround thank you very much.
Ty @ Sep 12th 2008 5:07PM
Ya know what kids... I pwn the people you think hack on PC. Infact people think I hack on PC. It's like a right of passage when you start to pwn (pronounced OWN) that much with a mouse.
J0hnnyM4c @ Sep 12th 2008 2:35PM
Ok, so I'm late to the xbox/cod4 game; purchased GOTY Edition and NO FREE MAPS! Yep, mine didnt and Activision told me its "limited offer." So, fk off Activision I'm reporting you to the BBB and a BIG THANK YOU to all the game websites promoting free maps on this version. Thanks for promoting bait-n-switch guys.
