Fans from the ScoreHero community got to take Guitar Hero World Tour for a spin last night, and until you start getting your own personal Cheetoh crumbs on the new and improved instruments, their detailed impressions are probably the closest you'll get to playing the game.
Be cautious though, their blog is really only for the hardest of the hardcore; like, "I want to see closeup pictures of the way the guitar body connects to the neck" level hardcore. You've been warned.
[Thanks, Hafk]

Why not buy the disc and enjoy both? If you're a fan of the genre, that makes the most sense.

Maybe because the game compares favorably to Rock Band? I think both games will be fine but I think GHWT offers something both distinct and worth while. Rock Band 2 looks cool (I've watch people play it who've gotten it early) but it pretty much look exactly like Rock Band with new songs (and crazy hammer-on chords) and all the "why the hell wasn't this in the first one to begin with" features. WT is trying some new stuff, whether all of them will work out I don't know, but it's got me interested.

Well the way I see it now, Rock Band 2 is a pig and GHWT is a pig with lipstick, and I like lipstick. (sorry I forgot to hit "reply")

Unfortunately they haven't tried the Rock Band 2 drums yet which what I was mostly interested in. They say the button window is like Guitar Hero Aerosmith and not as loose as Guitar Hero 3 which is a very good thing. The guitar seems very nice.
I'm getting the GH guitar and RB2 guitar when they come out but I'm not sure about the drums yet. I'll probably get both games but I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for a comparison on the drums before I even get any game or peripheral (since the game with the better drumset would be the game I'd get the full set for)

I'll be getting both games, but I think the RB drums will be the better of the two simply because of versatility. I'd rather have 4 pads that can be anything (along with 3 options cymbals) than 3 pads and 2 cymbals that can only be cymbals. Apart from that I expect both sets to be similar in terms of noise/rebound/reliability.

So, are these people also the "Why in the hell don't these guitars have straps yet!?" hardcore?
Cause that's me.

Dude, I beat Through the Fire and Flames on Expert without a strap... and without even looking at the TV... and blindfolded... and with my arms duct taped together.
I couldn't upload it to the ol' 'tube because it was too awesome.

I'm curious to know what you think GHWT is doing that is "new"? I like the genre and I plan to get both games, but there's nothing new or innovative about GHWT.

I wouldn't say too much is new, however Rock Band 2 is startlingly safe. As for WT, I personally am interested in the music creator, people have been downplaying it, but I've screwed around with some music mixing programs and even if you have no musical talent (aka me) it's still pretty fun, combined with my lust for complex guitar partners I look forward to the personal and global potential. Other more novel things, open bass notes may actually may make bass interesting for awhile, drums are somewhat different so that will be fun to try, from the Scorehero impression singing is much better. Most write it off as a novelty but I like real life guitarist and others in the game. I also like boss battles, allegedly they made them less retarded, but at the very least I like playing 4 minute guitar solos that you unlock after you beat the bosses. You also have the touch pad on the guitar, I don't think they are going to replace buttons, but I think they could be a meaningful improvement. Whether you disagree with me or not, I at least write a paragraph about what is new in WT, RB2 will be fun no doubt but really it's an expansion pack. Like a the new yearly Madden.

I ain't saying they don't make a lot of Guitar Heros, but when they do at least they try. Aerosmith is a lot better than Harmonix developed Rock the '80s. Either way, I could argue WT is more a sequel to Rock Band than RB2 is, whether you think WT is a rip off or not.

RB2 looks like an expansion pack no doubt, but all of the new features make it more than that to me, anyways.
GHWT, although its trying to be different, just isn't going to get there anytime soon. That being said, once I get the money I'll probably buy the disk anyway just for the exclusives and music creator. I give in to music games too easily :(

Don't expect too much out of this article. These are the same folks that praised how great GH3 was when they were sent down to playtest. Smoke and mirrors is one thing, I'll base the game on a demo or renting it.

There's some good screen shots, but SH has always been a bit one sided they started with Guitar Hero n'all. I will probably wait to see some comparisons between the RB and GH stuff.

I think SHAZAM is trying to say that the guys at Scorehero are influenced by the name Guitar Hero to praise it whether or not the game actually deserves it. Remember the boss battles with 3? SH loved them, the general GH players on the other hand hate them.
influenced thinking ex.
"Halo 2 is awesome because it's a Halo game"
And Halo 2 is generally accepted as garbage when compared to 1 or 3

Young_Nastyman seems to have gotten my point. I know your point about most Rock Band fans having started with GH, but I also know that a lot of people have declared a side, or at least the vocal minority have. Either way, a lot of people like either RB or they like GH.
I think, even though Score Hero supports Rock Band and has this old tie to Harmonix, that they are still slightly biased towards Guitar Hero. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I just wanted to say I would be waiting for a review of equipment from someone else.

They mentioned "leveling up your character in solo and tour mode". Character leveling? Are we talking about a Level-30 Sting vs a Level-28 Ozzy? What good will levels do since the only thing that can make you better at these games is to BE better? Will it unlock special solo/encore moves or something?
Battle mode, character leveling... I don't get it, but then again I'm not very competitive.

Now that we got a better view of GH:WT, Joystiq has turned into a peaceful place to discuss the rhythm genre.
