In contrast to yesterday's North American game charts for August, the latest software sales figures out of Japan aren't lead by Madden (and don't feature Too Human, nor will they ever). Instead, Nintendo's superb Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Rhythm Heaven when it launches here) beat out even the mighty Wii Fit to claim top spot.
Ludwig should be pleased to see that Arika is in there at a respectable No. 4 and, just to save you the counting, yes, six of the top 10 games for the week are on Nintendo DS. Here's the full list, with weekly and life-to-date sales accounted for:
1. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Rhythm Heaven) – DS – 55,276 / 668,000
2. Wii Fit – Wii – 31,970 / 2,609,000
3. Blue Dragon Plus – DS – 21,174 / New
4. Afrika – PS3 – 18,567 / 57,000
5. J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship – PS2 – 18,342 / 136,000
6. Fire Emblem: New Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light – DS – 17,349 / 222,000
7. Dragon Quest V – DS – 15,454 / 1,164,000
8. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX – DS – 14,688 / 326,000
9. Mario Kart Wii – Wii – 14,207 / 1,748,000
10. Inazuma Eleven – DS – 13,803 / 85,000

Nintendo better enjoy these moments, because according to Killjebus, the Wii will die in November after 2 years and LBP will kill Mario.
This is the prediction:

I know huh!! Nintendo does sooooo sell software, just a quick look at the latest NPD numbers shows that even though the wii has the largest install base it sold a whopping 115k units of madden 09 while the sorry xbox 360 sold only 1 million units of madden. And even the pathetic ps3 barely pushed 643k.
Go wii!

i know kj is a little off but so are you by trying to counter the wii games don't sell argument with a sells chart dominated by DS titles. that is like claiming playstation has 2 games on the list like the wii even though one is on ps2 and the other ps3

Dude, Fernando, you give people shit when they mention you in their comments without provocation - now you do the same.
Saying stuff like that is just flamebait and one of the things that makes me nervous to hit the "comments" button for fear of riding into an internet nerd shitstorm.
Sorry if I'm singling you out, but c'mon - you actually took the time to make an image and upload it just for a pissing match over two corporations.

Well Mr Khan's right in a way. Madden for wii did sell better this year than last year. What he didn't tell us is that it only sold 200 copies better. Yes, I meant to say 200.
Also fernando, don't you realize how much of a jackass you make yourself look when you try to laugh in the face of people who say wii games dont' sell when the games that are selling is shit like Wii Fit and average DS games? I mean seriously...blue dragon ds?

Only 48 Wii games over 75% on metacritic is still pretty abysmal when it's nearly 2 years old. There's some real good ones in there, but that's an awfully small selection to choose from. I couldn't care less about how well software sells, just bring on the quality titles.

I guess that explains my broader optimism, my Wii collection totals 13 games, owning a launch console. Plus a half-dozen VC titles.
Though i do want an opportunity to clear out the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials for Super Paper Mario, and clear out the Achievement board in Brawl.

Afrika 57,000 cumulative. Clearly development resources well spent.

They already made a game for the DS. It's called Archaic Sealed Heart (ASH), and it looks fantastic. I don't know when (or if) it will be released outside of Japan.
