Despite teasing "many more games that we haven't announced for next year," Sony's Head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has coveted third-party IPs, expressing a desire to see more of them winding up on the PlayStation Portable. "What we'd like to see more is for third parties also – there is so much great IP that they have," Yoshida told IGN.
The PSP has enjoyed brisk sales both in North America and Japan for quite some time now, but its lineup has failed to keep pace. It's "really, really disappointing and it's a lost opportunity for the third parties," notes Yoshida, suggesting that developers "look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential." Don't believe him? Just ask that Monster Hunter game.

I like the damn thing, but if Yoshida wants more devs/3rd parties to take action toward the handheld, they should start giving incentives to do so. Or better ones anyway. Without the PSP, it's damn-near certain Nintendo will let the DS go stagnant in terms of new & innovative stuff to keep interest... or worse. :\

I dont agree with you, competition in games its good but in consoles its bad, and more for people that cant afford multiple consoles or portables. This new generation so far its a disaster for consumers and i bet that for third parties too sure we have multiplatform which its a good thing but the console that dominates (the Wii) its a sub standard machine making the experience on multiplatform feels bad or uncompleted.
Nintendo its inovating and continue to do so in DS, i dont see any problem in the way that nintendo lead the portables arena.

The problem with developing for the PSP is the rampant piracy. It's not even hard to do to your PSP.
The platform is hands down the highest quality hand held gaming device. There is no doubt. However, a developer might be wary of producing an amazing & exclusive PSP title because they will more than likely lose money due to piracy.
I think we need more quality titles on the PSP and there is no doubt that includes 3rd party. What needs to happen is Sony needs to make all PSN games playable on the PSP. Also, it would not hurt to have an PSP version of every first party exclusive like GT, Uncharted, LBP, SOCOM and Motorstorm. Like we are getting with Resistance.

The software flow has kinda dried up for the PSP in the last few months, though worthwhile games are around the corner
It's quite similar to the DS/Wii situation though. Its good to own a handheld/console combination, because when Wii games dried up for the summer, DS games got strong, Wii games start coming back in September, and DS stays strong, but the combination works out well

There are a ton of great games for the PSP. I just think piracy and the failed UMD format as a movie option has scared developers away.
I said it earlier - we need to be able to have any purchased PSN title work as a PSP game.

"Why waste money and talent on developing (AAA) games on 'last gen' system" I believe is the mantra for the Wii by anti-Wii extremists. Wouldn't that apply here too?
Just saying.

except the PSP is the highest caliber portable gaming console. If it applies to the PSP it certainly applies to the DS Lite.

They should increase third party support in PSN downloadable games. Maybe they are less prone to piracy. My most PSP recent purchases have been through PSN. I haven't bought a PSP game except for GOW in the past year.
I have a launch PSP for homebrew and another one I bought a year later - the one I use most often - for games. I don't pirate games, but homebrew is fun if you have a beat up old pixelated PSP that you can experiment on.
