Also remember that HMX stated the drums made a lower frequency sound that is meant to be less grating, as well as being quieter overall. From what I've heard on YouTube, it sounds much less annoying than the wood on plastic, so even when I hear it I don't think it'll be as bad.

Woah, Kyle has the exact same Gateway laptop as me, weird.

Note to Kyle: Be gentle with the hinges, one of mine has already bit the dust...

I think it would've been a better control if they had measured the sound of the pads during a game, not what was believed to be "light" "medium" and "hard".

How would that be better? When playing, your sticks will hit the pads at either on some end of the "light" to "hard" spectrum to various degrees. In fact, I'd say everyone varies in how often they play lightly versus how often they play heavy.

All the same, you can do this: assume you hit 1,000 notes in a song that are either light, medium, or heavy. Let's put "all light" and "all heavy" as the two extremes. It's still quieter. And now it's without any of the TV noise muddling up the results.

I think it would've been better because it doesn't actively effect the results, the subject isn't actively thinking "hit light, hit light" while "light may be lighter than what light is during normal gameplay.

As for the TV noise muddling up the results, you can mute the tv, or have headphones for the subject.

I am so happy to find out that if I hit a piece of plastic REALLY REALLY HARD that I'd get an incredibly loud sound back.

So here's a question: is it worth it to get new equipment for RB2? I have the original stuff but are the newer instruments THAT much better?

I'm glad that they are finally trying to make these instruments for these games quieter. Do you know how hard it is to try playing these at night with parents who hear everything. Its impossible. You have too hear why don't you go to bed and we are trying to sleep. Truth be told it sucks cause you come home from work at 12:00 and you want to wind down with some rockband and you can't even do it. So I have to say good for them I will definately have to go out and get Rockband 2.

This is rubbish, not only does you have to take in the volume. You also have to listen for what frequency some frequencies register louder than the volume actually is. Jeez.
