The are called casual gamers until they buy a console and casually play with it, before that happens they are called "people", "family" or "friends"...

The same things happen with geeks, once you get bored of a game you stop playing it, I rarely go back to play most of my games, if I like a game so much, I don't stop playing it, even if I buy more...

It's really strange. One set of parents I know that bought a Wii haven't touched it in a while and only go back to Wii Sports every few weeks or so. The other couple of casual gamers own about a dozen games and one is almost finished with Super Mario Galaxy. The husband bought MP3:C on my recommendation but hasn't played it for more than a few hours.

I predict... no.

Most people I know that didn't get it for the hardcore games like Brawl, SMG, LoZ: TP, and Metroid Prime 3 are still playing the "Wii ___" series. Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play... you get the idea.

My mother-in-law was in town for awhile and I got her in to Mario Kart for the Wii. Not long after she left (like, days) she had a Wii as well for Mario Kart. Last I knew she was on the hunt for Rock Band as well.

Now, getting her to connect it to the internet on the other hand....

My friends got hooked up on WiiSports' Golf and plan to buy more golf games.

We did once a comparison: Wii vs. Xbox360 and WiiSports was winning by huge margin over co-op in GeOW - until one neighbor brought PS2 with GOW2.

Problem with Wii right now is that promise of new original games was never actually delivered. And even ports end-up being (not improved but) waggled.

@vidGuy: "...bought MP3:C on my recommendation..."

The N games are pretty much impossible sell to anybody who didn't played them on SNES. I (as PC gamer) hate MP3:C. Many my friends tried it at my house and threw it away some minutes later as "excuse of a game".

For 1st party games, you have to be Nintendo long time fan. From prospective of new gamers, the games can be politely described as "strange" and "weird".

To each his own, obviously, but your generalization of first party Nintendo games being "Niche" is flat out incorrect.

I can understand not liking a certain series, such as Metroid Prime. Maybe you're not a huge sci-fi fan, or don't like the whole First-person adventure thing, and that's cool.

But saying that all of Nintendo's series are hard to like unless you played them on the SNES is... stupid.

There are very few people out there who can't sit down with Super Mario Galaxy, it being the first Mario game they've played, and love it. Anyone who is a fan of adventure or fantasy would fall in love with Zelda, or anybody who just loves incredible gameplay.

How are these longer running series any more "quirky" then newcomer's such as Ratchet and Clank, Halo or Burnout?

I think you're just an oddity with that whole first party thing. I know tons of peple, myself included, that had never played more than two games on an SNES and still love the core Nintendo franchises.

i havn't touched the wii in a very long time, i'm not going to lie. i have a load more fun playing on ps3, and also like the idea of original games. i know that if we're going to have a 6 year old party or something we'll bring out the wii again, but until another game comes out thats actually worth it (super mario sluggers? yeah right) i'll just have to wait. probobly end up getting animal crossing, and then might not play a load. but i'll definently be getting the next zelda and playing the heck out of it.

Nope. All my friends who bought it were people who also bought GameCubes, and since i moved my Wii up into my bedroom, it doesn't get much play at family get-togethers, since my room is rather narrow

Either way, i'm at college now, and stupidly only brought my Component Cables, so i won't be able to hook it up to the CRT TV downstairs in the common room

My Dad and his girlfriend bought one, but only to play when people are over, if that. They went crazy when they bought it though, they bought like 10 games, and a bunch of accessories. Now, they barely touch it. My wife and I bought one, and I had to show him what the "shop" channel was and how to send a message. He had no idea that it did more then play games.

I also asked him about the games, and he said other then Wii sports, he's not sure which games he's played. I really doubt that he is going to purchase any other games. He simply bought it for the novelty factor, and now it is slowly gathering dust.

(I also "borrowed" a controller from him since he had three, and I knew he would never use it. Does that make me a bad person?)

My brother, who swore off games after the death of the SNES, suddenly wants a Wii. Not for things like Wii Sports, but because of all the retro gaming that the system offers. The virtual console, as well as Mega Man 9, Strong Bad's Cool Game.. I never thought he'd own a console again.

I play my Wii occasionally when my friend and his wife come over. We jam on RockBand and whatnot.Play some WiiSports, because my fiancee like it.

Other than that, there haven't been any games that REALLY interested me on the console. I've played through all my other games on it so far, so until something interesting comes along, It's just going to sit there (Although MegaMan 9 will probably make me want to boot it up again :D )

I'm getting a 360 next month, as right now there are tons of games that will take up some time until , say, the CONDUIT comes out for Wii.

Still love my Wii, but its just going through a lul right now.. *sigh*

Yeah, I can say that parties still include the Wii thought not as a main staple. Someone finds something to play, thats for sure. The usual mix of smash brothers, rock band, and mario kart. Sometimes, some funky form of a party game is up though I never join in for that.

I know three people who would be defined as 'casual' gamers, and they all still play it.
Not as often as someone like me does, but that's the case for 98% or so of the videogame buying public, anyway. They buy maybe one or two new games for it a year and, like core gamers, play it for a month or two usually and never touch it again.

Two of my friends brought a Wii after seeing it at my place. They were the type that got into gaming after Sony joined the party. After three or four months they both sold their consoles. There's only so much Wii Sports one can take, I suppose - one of these guys was absolutely enthralled with Bomberman today, though.

Now me and some other guy both still have our launch day consoles. I attribute that to the fact we both owned the Saturn/Xbox so we understand how to cope under scarce conditions.

I bought a Wii and basically stopped playing it because of lack of GOOD games. Plus...I'm pretty tired of ridiculous peripherals that cost a bunch. It's insane that you buy something for a stack of cash (and yes, to me, $249 is a stack of cash) then they toss out things that are needed to play other games. For example...Wii Fit Balance Board or even Wii Motion Plus...or Wii Speak. What the heck is that about? I think I'm about one Nintendo Wii ____ away from ditching the Wii entirely. The Conduit better be good. Oh...and Nintendo's E3 conference sucked... a lot.

Haha.. Upset Nintendo Supporter. Posts like that make me laugh. I haven't seen so many good games on a single console in generations. But quality is all about what you're looking for. If The Conduit is what will make or break the Wii for you, I have good news. There's an FPS-specific console already on the market. It's called the Xbox 360. If you bought a Wii, you should have expected more variety, and that's exactly what Nintendo and the Wii's third party developers have delivered. I could name 15 games for the Wii coming between now and Christmas that are definitely worth your attention.

go ahead. hit me up. i can only name four.

Guitar Hero WT
de Blob
Star Wars TFU
Animal Crossing

(note that only two are exclusives and that only ONE is an original IP and the other exclusive is almost identical to the DS version, according to IGN's hands-on)

and if rumors be true, then maybe Disaster Day of Crisis :)

also, don't toss this post aside as garbage because i am a sony or microsoft fanboy, because the only consoles i own are a wii, a gamecube, a N64, and a NES and the only business microsoft is getting from me is for their windows xp and vista operating systems. i just honestly don't see 15 games worth buying.

Okay. We'll start with yours.

Guitar Hero WT
de Blob
Star Wars TFU
Animal Crossing
Disaster Day of Crisis

Then, let's see..

Sam & Max Season 1
Samba de Amigo
Wario Land Shake It
Deadly Creatures
Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
MadWorld
Little King's Story
The Conduit
Mega Man 9
Animales de la Muerte
Strong Bad's Cool Game Episodes 2-5

Star Wars and Guitar Hero weren't on my count when I posted last. So 17 games. And that's counting the Strong Bad games as one.

Yes. Though it doesn't approach the glory of the original Metroid Prime, it is one of the best-controlling Wii games period, a beauty to behold with large, expansive environments, and more replay value than the others through the use of an in-game achievement system similar to Brawl's

I'm one of those casual games who picked up a Wii on launch day based on the easy pick up and play aspect of the Wii controller. I owned Paper Mario, Galaxy, Brawl, RE, Kart, and Death Jr. Those games were great but my Wii just sat around collecting dust waiting for new games to come out. I sold everything 2 weeks ago to get the new PS3 80G bundle. I just made more sense to have something that I could use when I didn't have any games to play. I also like downloading demos to find out if the game is worth spending $60 on before I buy it. I agree that the thrill wears off after a while for casual gamers, but I think that would happen with any system.

Honestly, there's nothing for me to do with the Wii anymore. I've played TP a couple of times, unlocked the whole Challenges vault in SSBB, played SMG, MKW, MP3:C, and every other hardcore game there is to play. I want another Zelda (though that's not happening for a while), and I don't think I'll be able to get 360 or PS3 (neither of which I really want, anyways...). So I guess I'll be going without good games for a while now.

There don't seem to be any epic games left. What happened to the Ocarina of Times and the Goldeneye 007s? Am I just not looking? Tales of Symphonia sounds like it'll be a good game, but other than that... can anyone tell me of a GOOD game that's coming out soon? Or rather, is there EVER going to be another TP or Galaxy-like game?

Please note that if I said anything stupid, I'm pretty tired right now, but I'm posting anyways.

Wario Land comes out in a week, but then it does get kinda dry until MadWorld in January, but after MadWorld there's also Sonic Black Knight and The Conduit in the ensuing months, and most likely that's when Fire Emblem DS and Fatal Frame IV will get localized

And somewhere in there will be disaster. October-December does look a little bleak if you're not in love with Animal Crossing, though.

The last game I got was MKW and I still play it on occasion and always pulling out Wii Sports when the in laws come to visit. I have already burned through all the core games the Wii has to offer and the only game I am going to get between now and years end will the SW TFU. I am not into the whole Animal Crossing thing and everything else in this years line up looks pretty grim. I may pick up Disaster day of crisis but I am still on the fence about it. For next year my only dream game is The Conduit.

It's not really so much an issue of weather or not they're still PLAYING games, it's that they're STILL buying the system in droves!

Seriously, Nintendo could discontinue the current Wii today, then release a new bundle tomorrow with Wii Sports Resort and a Wiimote Plus™ and 80% of the people buying the system would not even notice (or care) the difference. It wouldn't even need to be compatible with previous Wii games and could have an N64 graphics chip (to cut down on manufacturing costs)... and they'd still sell sell sell!!

I swear these people must just buy Toy-That-Says-Nintendo-On-It, try it for a day, put it in the closet, and go back to watching American Idol.

All right, how much free time do you guys have on your hands? I realize that there's an unfortunate amount of utterly crap games for the Wii, but honestly, when has that not been the case for a videogame system? I'm already massively backlogged with stuff to buy & play, between No More Heroes, Super Paper Mario, Zack & Wiki, Mario Kart, Twilight Princess, the many Virtual Console games I've downloaded, there's more than enough stuff available for the amount of time I actually have available to play videogames... And I've been doing this for ages, I still have my NES, Turbo Duo, etc!!! I don't see a real problem, I hope crap games don't sell and the lazy masses lose interest.

No More Heroes
Zak & Wiki
Rayman: Raving Rabbids

Resident Evil 4? I already played it on Gamecube.
Okami? I already played it on PS2.

My mother and sister used to ask to play Wii at my place when they were over visiting, but after a couple games of bowling, they haven't asked in a while. I suggested it last cookout and they said no.

My brother and brother-in-law both bought one and they are actual gamers. Both bought Mario Kart, played it online a little while, and haven't powered on the system since.

Same for me honestly. I picked up No More Heroes on sale recently and played the first 3 kills and haven't really gone back. There are lots of games in my collection waiting to be finished, but for some reason I am more drawn to my PS3 lately.

I can't lie. I just bought myself an Xbox 360 which now stands next to my Wii. I don't know if it's because it's a new console with new games to play, but the only reason I go back to it is for my Virtual Console (Mario RPG) and WiiWare (Strong Bad) games. After I destroyed Mario Galaxy, Bully is the only actual game I play... and I have GTA IV now, so even that's taken a backseat...

Nintendo needs something earth-shattering and quick!

I know several "casual" or "new" gamers who bought a Wii after trying mine. They all enjoy the system and have continued to play on a regular (or semi-regular) basis.

I also know several "core" or "experienced" gamers who bought a Wii. They are the only people I know who let their Wii gather dust... and complain about it loudly every chance possible about how terrible the system is and why their hi-def system of choice is infinitely better.

Personally, there doesn't seem to be any reason for animosity. I've played a reasonable number of PS3 and Wii titles: Wii continues to appeal to me, despite some problems like no voice chat and weaker online experience; PS3 games feel like a spit-polished copy of last-gen stuff and rarely appeal to me.

So why not play and enjoy the titles/systems you want, and don't worry about the rest, eh? :)
