Rock Band song unlock code works in Rock Band 2 ... too
Normally, we'd chastise for wanting to unlock all the content in a game without all the normally requisite work, but this is Rock Band 2 we're talking about! What, we ask, is more rock 'n' roll than getting something without working for it? Nothing, that's what. It's in that rock spirit we offer up the following code to be entered on the game modifier screen to instantly unlock all the game's tunes: Red, Yellow, Blue, Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Red, Yellow, Blue.
If it seems familiar, it's because it's the same code from the first Rock Band. Unlike the first game though, you'll permanently have an "unlock all songs" modifier to select, so you'll never have to enter the code twice. Efficiency may be a lot less rocking than instant gratification, but that doesn't mean we don't appreciate it.

STOP THE PRESSES! A company re-used a cheat code in a game sequel to perform the same function!!!
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Sep 15th 2008 4:09PM
Sweet! I'm going to get RB2 in November. Great game for the family to rock to before Thanksgiving dinner.
zuburi @ Sep 15th 2008 6:26PM
Plus, with no fail mode turned on, even a caveman can play it!
VaultICEE @ Sep 15th 2008 7:25PM

I'm interested in finding out what the OTHER locked "cheats" there are in the game. The unlock all songs one was the most obvious - what are the others?
doubleofive @ Sep 15th 2008 4:33PM
Yes, I believe there are 3 other slots for unlock codes. I like that they're codes so we can get them from places like this.
wesley johnson @ Sep 15th 2008 4:17PM
I never entered the first one .. this is tempting though. Is it just me, or are the songs a bit harder this time out? I could be out of practice.
mywhitenoise @ Sep 15th 2008 4:51PM
They are. I have to wait another month for the PS3 version, but I've been looking at videos, and there's a lot more hammer ons, and trickier notes for Expert guitars.
I might have to play on Hard this time around, haha.
wesley johnson @ Sep 15th 2008 5:01PM
i was trucking along on the drums playing hard but the wind saw fit to knock trees on powerlines. i've been powerless since yesterday morning and am now waterless as well. boo.
bobartig @ Sep 15th 2008 11:27PM
I dont know if its much harder than RB1, as Im only @ 28 songs in, but they have these funny double hammer ons now, like a hammer chord. Thought I was seeing things at first.
My sense is that the hammers and pulls are less strict than RB1, as in easier to play, and that the songs that I've run into are not as hard as i would have expected on expert.
Heinz @ Sep 15th 2008 4:19PM
Aw man I sat through 12 straight hours of drumming to unlock all the songs for Rock Band 1. Dang it!
Hashbrown Hunter @ Sep 16th 2008 8:42AM
Well at least this way you can ketchup in Rock Band 2.
:)

Remember that nothing at all saves if you're using the cheat though, you're better off unlocking them for real.
If you want to use a controller to unlock all songs: it is B, Y, X, B, B, X, X, B, Y, X.
Others:
Venue select: Blue, Orange, Orange, Blue, Yellow, Blue, Orange, Orange, Blue, Yellow or X, LB, LB, X, Y, X, LB, LB, X, Y.
Stage mode (makes you need to hold start to pause, and I think also turns on no fail, maybe): Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue, Yellow, Red or X, Y, B, X, Y, B, X, Y, B.
Awesomeness detection (No idea what it does): Yellow, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Orange or Y, X, LB, Y, X, LB, Y, X, LB.
RB2 venues only: Red, Red, Red, Red, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow (or B, B, B, B, Y, Y, Y, Y.)
doubleofive @ Sep 15th 2008 4:36PM
I don't mind not being able to save if it means I can have people over this week and not only have 30 new songs.
Celine Dion @ Sep 15th 2008 5:03PM
Does this affect the acheivements at all?
Joe H @ Sep 15th 2008 5:10PM
As it tells you before you activate the code, when unlock all songs is checked, you can't get achievements. To enable getting them again, you just uncheck the unlock all songs option.
JohnHeist @ Sep 15th 2008 5:18PM
This code is Temporary (read: awesome)
What it does is:
* Unlock All songs for this session
* Disable saving of any kind
I don't think it disables achievements, though I never got one while using this.
I'm taking mine to a bar to play tonight and only have about half of the songs, so this is sweet.
jinn35 @ Sep 15th 2008 5:42PM
Anybody else think that they made the note timing window slightly larger than the original Rock Band, and that the HOPO's are easier to hit?
It just seems that songs that I used to get mid 80% on guitar in the original I am now getting low to mid 90%. The window still doesn't feel as large as Guitar Hero III, but it just feels looser. Also, what happened to jukebox mode?
bobartig @ Sep 15th 2008 11:29PM
Yes to looser hopos, quite noticeable.
FSK405K @ Sep 15th 2008 5:59PM
?? There's codes in Rock Band? Been playing it since release and no one told me.
vidGuy @ Sep 15th 2008 7:30PM
Haha, yeah. I got RB the weekend after it came out and my roommates and I didn't really like the first few songs so instead of playing through the tour we entered the code and bam, all of the songs were available.
The code is important to know when you take the game to a console you haven't played on before.
#28 @ Sep 15th 2008 7:41PM
This is really smart.
Too bad Harmonix has no love for New Zealand, or I'd be all over this.
I have real trouble with having to unlock stuff just to get the whole game. I remember play Tekken Tag Tournament on PS2 for hours straight to get every character.
Paulmichael @ Sep 15th 2008 10:35PM
A cheat like this makes sense in a party game. I think Guitar Hero has it as well, and it disables saving too.
melissa @ Oct 19th 2008 3:20PM
niiice now i cant ell my boyfriend the cheat and he'll like worship the fact that i know it [even though ive never even played it...never had the chance..he owns it not me.ol.i so wanna try though!!]
