Annoying, isn't it? E-noying.
Okay, despite that particularly loathsome, mid-title capitalization, it's fair to say that we love just about everything in Sony's hover-racing remix, WipEout HD. The 1080p, 60 frames-per-second visuals, the 5.1 soundtrack, the custom tunes support, the five game modes, the eight reversible tracks, the eight-player multiplayer and -- here's a new one -- the fact that it becomes available on the North American and European PSN next week on September 25th. Defying gravity and evading epilepsy will cost you $19.99.

Never played a WipEout title before, but I'm psyched for this release...if it's half as smooth as they're claiming, this will definitely fill the speed thrills gap in the PS3 line-up...and before anyone says to try Burnout Paradise, I have that one for the 360...this exclusive would definitely make a nice feather in Sony's cap.

I can't imagine a new F-Zero Wii being better than GX.
But I'm excited for this game, too. I never really played the earlier games in the series.

What a Sony fanboy. Obviously you've never played F-Zero GX.

I'm honestly not that excited about seeing F-Zero on Wii. Motion controls aren't precise enough, and I'm not sure how they can improve on F-Zero GX anyway, given the Wii's lack of processing power. Is online versus play enough of a reason to buy essentially the same game again?
That's not a knock against the Wii - it's a statement about just how good F-Zero GX was (and still is!) for hardcore racing fans.
Thank goodness for backwards compatability.
*thumbs nose at PS3*

Yeah, if they do make F-Zero for Wii, it better have graphics better than GX (best-looking game last gen IMO) and have option to use no motion controls. AND SMOOTH ONLINE PLAY.
But whatever, if they ruin it, I can always pretend like GX is a brand new game :(

That's weird, that's exactly what I was going to write after reading the article and seeing the price.

I'm so fucking pumped for this game!!!
WipEout was one the first games I owned on the original Playstation, and I've owned every one since. They've delivered without exception, and this one, I think, will be the best one yet.

No, there is no blu-ray planned at all.
And its only 1.1gigs in size, there are many demo's smaller than that.
Eurogamer rated this 9/10. Can't wait.

The game looks hot and will be tons of fun... but only 8 tracks for $20? Even if you can race in either direction, does that sound ridiculously low to anyone else?

No. Mostr racing games have between 10 and 16 tracks and you pay three times the amount of dollars for those.

Fair enough.
You're probably right about the number of tracks included - although it sounds low, 8 tracks is on par with many other racing games. Mario Kart Wii spoiled me with 32... but that is an exception instead of the rule.
Besides, having a few dynamic and well-designed tracks is way more important than simply throwing in a huge number of uninspired (*coughMarioKartWiicough*) tracks anyway.
I'd still rather pay $15, but I'm cheap.

It's the quality of the content, not the quantity that makes the difference. Examples?
MvC vs. MvC2. MvC had a smaller roster, certainly. One could argue too small, but then one would be a retard. Because even though it lacked the 56 character roster of MvC2, overall it was a much better and far more balanced game.
Ridge Racer PSP vs. Burnout PSP. Ridge racer had fewer tracks but was built from the ground up for the hardware. Every level was tuned for that Ridge Racer. Burnout's first trip out on PSP attempted what Ridge Racer did. They TRIED to throw in a ton of classic level remakes at the game and hope everything turned out okay. But it didn't. Several of the levels were designed specifically for the way cars handled on Burnout 1&2 and Burnout 3 was a big change from that, making several of the tracks just annoyingly difficult.
Moral? I'd gladly take an 8 track game where all the levels are balanced like wipeout for $20 than a $50 game with 32 tracks on Mario Kart Wii where I have MAYBE one favorite track per circuit and the rest I hate.

FINALLY!! WOOHOO!!
At least I know for a fact that I won't be feeling like I wasted my money like I did after buying JEOPARDY last week. I don't think I've ever played a game with more dead air (i.e. SILENCE). Even my APPLE IIc version was more engaging.

Hope this controls better than that other WipEout on PSN. I was not a fan of that particular iteration.
