Despite the franchise's previous installment barely managing to shift a meager 10 million copies, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has made the surprising prediction that developer Infinity Ward would give it one more go with a sixth Call of Duty game, due in 2009. "In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6," said Griffith, speaking at Activision Blizzard's Analyst Day (via Shacknews).
Call of Duty 6, which may end up dropping the "6" in favor of a militaristic subtitle (eg. Moderner Warfare), will follow Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, due to be released this November. Shacknews does note an element of confusion in Griffith's statement, however, with the CEO stating, "For calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the [Call of Duty] franchise." Is that like ... Call of Duty: Space Warfare?

I can only hope it's "space warfare".

I don't want to sell the game and Treyarch short before its release, but I didn't exactly "like" CALL OF DUTY 3... so hearing this news is great.
And here's my guess(read: "shot in the dark")to the name of COD6:
"CALL OF DUTY: PRIVATIZED MILITARY"

While I agree that the quality of CoD3 is questionable, the reason for the poor quality is actually Activisions doing...They only gave Treyarch a little under a year to complete CoD3.
On topic, I hope also it is into the future. Plus I hope they get rid of martyrdom and last stand, so annoying lol. Will probably pick up cod:waw when it drops price.

As much as a I love sequels for great games, maybe they should sit on it, for a few years.

if they started on it right after CoD 4, and they aim for a holiday 09 release, that's almost 3 years to work on it, about the same time they had between CoD 2 and 4

Is anyone suprised that A-B wants to put out a COD every year?

Acti-zard putting out CoD 4, 5 & 6 back to back like this has killed my interest in the series. They'd have to seriously retool the game to make it different enough from what I already own to bring me back.

For the love of god get this developer working on a new IP. EA needs to disengage it's milking machine from this cow before things get out of hand and they start simply adding '09 etc. to the end of each title.
Disclaimer: COD4 was awesome.

I liked COD4, but it got old and I haven't played it much for the past couple months.
For future installments, I would like to see a big push by Activision to release more (and frequent) DLC, instead of the next version of the game each year (COD2008, COD2009).
I thought the (1) COD4 map pack that was released, was pretty good for what it was. But there hasn't been anything "new" for months now, and the game is stale. I dont think the new playlists are enough to freshen it up.

YES! DLC is the best way to keep the game fresh. You'll notice that that is pretty much the only way Bungie has kept Halo alive for so long! Yes it was on the best games ever made but it's been out for how many years and people are still playing it? IW, please if you have any extra time, make some extra maps, make some extra playlists, fix the current situations, (i.e. spawning catastrophies)in any way you can add on to what we have so far.

Finally those cretins on forums can stop arguing back and forth whether World at War should be called 'CoD5'.

What's with a new COD EVERY YEAR. Slow down. This is starting to be like EA's franchises. How bout you give people time to enjoy your games and DLC?

Pay tribute and explore the private "security" that

I think it should be in world war 2 in a snowy forest and you get to drive lots of vehicles and get to use big guns.
it would be good if you get to be a paratrooper or the battle of britian.you could jump out of a plane.
