I'm not sure where you went to school, but 3/5=60/100=60%. I don't know how 3/5 can mean something "different" than 60/100.

Yes, mathematically 3/5 does equal 60/100. But the intent of the stars is not to be converted into a mathematical percentage, just like 1Up's grade is not suppose to be a 75/100. You should leave a review score as it is originally written. Giant Bomb's system is designed much more loose than a strict number system, especially when it relates to the middle. Their 3 stars does not equal an IGN or Game Informer 6 point review. Thus I feel that showing them in same format is a poor choice.

I agree with Nick Bell, to convert Giant Bomb's score into a numerical system defeats the purpose of the original score.

p.s. Nick, shouldn't you be buried in someone's back yard?

Not to seem completely out of touch, but I have no idea what you're talking about. Whatever you're referencing when right over my dense head. Regardless, I appreciate the support.

This is even more strange since they did not change the GiantBomb Score for RockBand 2 (guess 60/100 is ok but 100/100 is impossible)

Agreed, 5 star rating systems tend to be like:

5/5 = Duh!
4/5 = This game is a really good game.
3/5 = Average (maybe slightly above?)
2/5 = Fans of this genre might like it but...
1/5 = Try again.
0/5 = WHY AM I STILL HERE

I don't understand the problem. A 70/100 or 7/10 is a GOOD score. At least, that's the way scores are designed. 50/100 should be average: playable but not exceptional. 70 should be above average and a fun time. If you're seriously just basing it on the number a game is given, then you're simply foolish.

Read the actual reviews and ignore the numbers. Gamers think a 50 is horrific (which it shouldn't be) and a 70 is barely playable, oftentimes. Because of this I say we ignore the numbers/letters that are used for grading altogether, unless there's some sort of standard that is given for the grading scheme.

I think of late reviewers have actually been picking up on this and using scores properly, which makes me happy. IGN and 1Up at least - I love 1Up's new system, as it removes the meaningless "different degrees of atrocious" that make up 0-5 on most review scales.

Problem is that now even as the reviewers may adjust their scores, readers are still just as up-in-arms over a "bad" score.

It's not like you made the game, why do you care the # it gets? Play it if you like it.

The problem they had was trying to prevent you from becoming God, and running around invincible at the same time making you more powerful then Vadar. Very difficult combination, if they had given him the power to implode walls around him, explode anything, send out shockwaves and crush the ligaments and arteries as well as machinery of anything, you would certainly be unleashing the force, however, you would have no opponent.

Than perhaps they should have sold the game with a trailer of him bringing down a star destroyer with force pull.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkBiYpD3SDc

In the star wars universe excessive use of force power is balanced by physical damage/fatigue being done to the sith/jedi when they make extreme uses of the force. The game could have taken the same approach.
Force use could have slowed the player down, diminish the players ability to use the light saber effectively, and eventually cause his death if used too much too fast. It would also have been cool to see the player age when using some of the more severe force powers.
My point is, they didn't have to gimp the "force unleashed" premise of the game to balance it.

That's an interesting concept right there ^^ A disadvantage for an advantage, sort of like how the Matrix games and Max Payne used the limited bullet time to prevent gamers playing god and killing everything perfectly.

They could have done that, and I like the idea of fatigue, or aging to counterbalance the exessive use of the force. Unfortunatly they didn't think like that :( But it would have been quite the treat and at the same time force the gamer into using interllect to determine where and when best you use the force.

So basically, you'll buy anything with Star Wars on it whether it blows or not.

The marketing force is strong with this one.

I think I will be getting this game, based on my enjoyment of the demo and my affection for Star Wars (a bruised and battered affection after the prequel trilogy, but still roughly intact). However, it would seem that the game doesn't reach its full potential.

I wonder how much of this has to do with the way Lucas spread their development energy across every conceivable system (except, mysteriously, the PC). Even a big company only has so many hands, brains, and dollars to devote to a game, and trying to make several significantly different versions dilutes the effort that you can put into the game.

I think that the success or failure of this game will tell the entire industry a lot about mutliplatform development.

This game could have been so much more, instead they turned it into just another hack and slash/action clone. That probably was a mistake if they wanted to focus on force powers. Since I don't know why they thought you could "control" force powers like that, maybe it sounded better on paper.

Then the mad fetish for quick times events, then making the lightsaber not act like a lightsaber. Sure throwing a lightersaber at a stromtrooper in the air and leaving it going threw him at the end of the combo is fun, but wouldn't it be better if I could have just taken his head off on the first attack?

:(

I found that changing the controls from "Hold" for force powers to "Toggle" made a HUGE difference. For those who complain about the controls, give that a shot.

I also found that the system auto-aims a bit for you. If you throw a crate and it's off a little bit, the game seems to re-steer your throw towards the nearest enemy.

All in all, I found the demo was slightly less than what the developers promised in 2006 but very, very good nonetheless - I am looking forward to playing the full game.

PS : A co-op "Stormtrooper Toss" mini-game would have been awesome. Sigh. Put that together with Bungie's Forge and think of the possibilities.

I won't be buying this until we see a price drop. I thought it was a fun enough game, but the controls are rather awkward and it's seemingly very short.

The main reason I've been interested in it, is for the story.. But I can wait.

what is this bastardized conversion of giant bombs score? im not one to care about review scores, but i share gerstmans view on them. he believes in a 5 point review scale and nothing more is needed, when you start to add in 95 more points is when things get confusing. i, and i think jeff, would like to see that changed to his original scoring format.

It didnt get a 6/10 on giantbomb, it got a 3/5. Which could be a 6/10 OR 7/10. You should of just put 3/5.

I'm not paying $60 for a 6 hour game. I'm pissed enough about COD4's 3 hour campaign. At least that game had a full multiplayer component that made it worth the money somewhat.

Force Unleashed is a rental game. A good game that you can finish in a day or two that leaves you satisfied that your $5 was spent well.

What makes the Force Unleashed good is the story. If you don't care about Star Wars the game really isn't worth anything to you.

I just find it crazy that Jedi Knight I&II, Force Unleashed and the last X-Wing game had far better stories that Episodes I-III and VI.

It might be because of my immense fandom to Star Wars, but I'd give this game a 9/10. Being able to fling people into walls, electrocute rancors, and use hoses with carbonite to freeze imperial guards. Aside from KOTOR 3 and Star Wars Battlefront 3 it's everything I've ever wanted from a Star Wars game.

Wow!
A very cool game.
With the Wii remote and nunchuk it brings a whole new aspect to controlling the character, lightsaber and the force. I just played for about 90 minutes and its a lotta fun!

First level, you play as Vader on Kashykkk (Wookie planet), very nice.
The story is also very cool thus far, and so are the clips.

People seem to forget that games are made to have fun!
Everyone is always complaining about everything or something when what they should be doing is just playing.

Oh, and yeah I'm a hardcore gamer and own and love my Wii.

Gamespot: "delivering a story both more intimate and more powerful than the entirety of the second film trilogy"

U guys should kiss and make up...

Its annoying.. i want to play a decent SW game after so long.. but it was clear from the initial trailers that they designed this in a really dumbed-down way.

Ironic that they managed to do a good story, while at the same time turning it into a lightweight, repetitive, Star Wars Xtreme.

Well I didn't think the demo was that bad... and I believe you build the character up so that you'll be even more induced with the force by the end.

Not too happy by the quick-time events though.

I think it captures the feel of the SW universe and the reviewers seem to agree that the story is good.

No matter how you feel about the game, you have to admit that a $20 gift card from Toys 'R Us is a pretty darn good deal.
