Rumor: Activision is making DJ Hero, a 'licensing nightmare'
DJ Hero is more than just a trademark to Activision, it's an actual game, according to an anonymous source speaking to MTV News. There's very little other information to go around at this point, only that the mash-up mechanic is proving to be a "licensing nightmare" for Activision, which, thanks to the Vivendi merger, now has access to the Universal Music Group.
It could be great news for music game fans who're in the mood for something a little different, and terrible news for Konami, which must be having the worst case of deja vu.

"Hey Japs, you snooze, you lose", seems to be the way game development is going right now.
Those guys are standing still.
Though they're still years ahead in tenticle porn and unfathomable romance RPGs.

They didn't snooze and lose, they delivered, failed miserably, and managed to slap everyone in the face in the process. US PS2 version of Beatmania was terrible, mediocre at best.

Also, "jap" is a very racist and offensive term to some people.
Jakka(Free Mr.ESC!) @ Sep 17th 2008 1:18PM
How is it?
Going by that logic, Aussie/Brit/Yank should also be offensive?
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 17th 2008 2:49PM
Well said Jakka.
Truth be told, i just couldn't be bothered typing the rest of the word. Busy man, things to do.
kip @ Sep 17th 2008 4:05PM
Aussie/Brit/Yanks haven't been terms used in contempt to oppress the people they refer to, as "Jap" was during WWII. Not everyone finds it offensive or racist.. I'm just saying that *some* people do.

Whoring out a popular franchise?
Noooo...not Activision in the least.
The Artist formally known as Jesus @ Sep 17th 2008 10:30AM
For a sec I thought you were talking about EA.
But these days who can tell the difference between the two anyway?
straynova @ Sep 17th 2008 10:28AM
Kind of late for an April Fools joke...
If only.

I wonder what the controller for this game would look like. If the gameplay is anything like IIDX, then they've got their work cut out for them; I haven't gotten anyone to get into IIDX (Rock Band, on the other hand, is an easy sell). But it might have had something to do with the interface, Konami's designs tend to be pretty sparse.
Limezor @ Sep 17th 2008 10:45AM
Why not, it looks awesome.
Although, depending on the price, you can buy a KAOS PAD which can basically make real music for you (provided you have the samples you want).
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Sep 17th 2008 10:56AM
Since when is Kevin Smith a DJ???
I bet his mixes all contain Berserker
ToniusK @ Sep 18th 2008 8:10PM
LOL! But Kevin Smith is cuter!
Diskoboy7 @ Sep 17th 2008 12:28PM
The only way I'd buy this game is if you can hook up a real pair of 1200/1210's and a mixer.
Besides that, I'll stick to my REAL 1210's, thank you.

Beatmania has been out for over 10 years now. "DJ Hero" will never have as much polish or quality song selection as Beatmania.
matthew @ Sep 17th 2008 2:38PM
I haven't received my Beatmania Newsletter for weeks now, can you check my subscription?
s256 @ Sep 18th 2008 2:19PM
I doubt Activision can pull any new music game off, let alone being any better than a real (ie not the US failure) version of Beatmania.
mikael @ Sep 17th 2008 12:44PM
This is the one rhythm game I'd consider buying!
Phillip @ Sep 17th 2008 2:31PM
Make sure Lil Wayne is one a few tracks. Come to think of it, they should just make a Lil Wayne version like they did for Aerosmith.
