"What is it that elevates Jenni's cosplay above others?"

Just look at her; she's cute.

And...

"Oh, and who hasn't encountered this problem? Just looking at that picture frustrates us!"

My goodness you're right.

I like to think that attention whoring is never acceptable, no matter what form it takes.

That's a little too negative. I don't think cosplayers ask for attention; they get it. Simple as.

Dressing up in a costume, having someone photograph you posing in said costume, and then placing those photos in public places is not asking for attention?

Uhm... it's a hobby of theirs... Isn't posting comments on here asking for attention? :/
Still, no excuse for being negative about attention. People can have attention if they want. :)

Making that costume and not showing it to others would be a damn shame, wouldn't you agree?

I've tried cosplaying, it isn't so much attention seeking, it's more like living out your fantasy. In the sense that a certain character really appeals to you, and cosplaying lets you be that character (well kind of.hehehehe).
I'm pretty sure, the more experienced cosplayers don't do it for that, but rather to showcase their art. I mean if you draw, sing, play sports well, you want to show others, cosplaying is no different. Your not only showing your sewing skills, but also your love for a certain franchise. It is attention seeking, but on a very basic level, just like all other talents.

Not just sewing! The ability to improvise a costume out of a bunch of old clothes and rubber for Zero Suit! :)
