Funcom co-founder quits, Age of Conan in Anarchy Online director's hands

In a follow-up piece by GI.biz, Funcom's European product manager stated he didn't want to get into specifics over why Godagar was "dissatisfied," but that "there were elements in the game that he was not happy with and he wanted to take the consequence of that." He concludes that the big priority right now is to give players what they're asking for. Apparently, Morrison's just the man to do it.

This just feels good...seeing as how Conan which seemed so promising upon initial play time turned out to be the biggest turd at the MMO ball.

The reason for his disfatifacation: "Needs more tit's!"

Possessive?

Hey while we're talking about Funcom, what's the deal with Dreamfall and or The Longest Journey? They need to get on that because there were ALOT of plot holes in Dreamfall that needs to be rectified.

Wasn't this game suppose to be the next WoW killer?
Dr Scientist @ Sep 17th 2008 1:55PM
I think a lot of upcoming MMOs get the title 'WoW-killer', but most fail to deliver upon release.
Bigfoot @ Sep 17th 2008 2:00PM
Nobody is trying to be the next WoW killer.

PokeMMOn could have been, but Nintendo prefered to be planks, lol

Never recovered from the GM scandel...

AoC could have been great if it focused on PvE and avoided PvP entirely. The two have drastically different mechanics and the combo system AoC used was geared toward PvE. The two simply cannot play well together as play dynamics are too different. You can't treat an opposing player like a raid boss.
A more focused experience would have freed up assets to work on getting other important aspects working day 1, like armor stats that actually did something and game stability.
Plus, the high system requirements didn't help much. A key point of WoW's success is its tame requirements.
VGJunkie @ Sep 17th 2008 3:21PM
Right, but they touted this as a Mature PvP game. How ironic that they had a bare bones PvP system in place to start, and actually started banning people for doing what they said was a highlight of the game, killing other players!
This game is in shambles, and I highly doubt it's going to pull itself out of the hole it dug. Failed promises leave a bad taste in players mouths, but hey, didn't people learn from Anarchy Online?
I think if anybody in today's market is serious about a MMO:
For PvE: Go WoW, tons of content there.
For PvP: Go Warhammer, the RvR system makes PvP actually matter.

Did anyone else find the title's first line ending "Age of Conan in Anarchy slightly misleading before they moved onto the next line? Or am i the only one who made that stupid mistake?
Freeze @ Sep 17th 2008 3:13PM
nice though

m-m-meeeeltdown!
Pretty sad though, the game has promise. If they just fixed the combat system, the classes, and a few other things.
User Interface is nice (aside from the combat mechanic which requires you to click powers while trying to follow frenetic onscreen action), story is there to be expanded, graphics are top notch, nudity is there...;-)
The game has promise. No one seems to know what happened with the other elements though.
I mean..they did go through a beta didn't they?
Tridus @ Sep 18th 2008 6:25AM
Yep, they went through a beta. Only problem is that it was the first 3 months AFTER release.
