It wasn't so frightening when the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 for a week back when Tales of Vesperia came out, but now that it's sold more than the Wii during the week ending Sept. 14 ... well, now we're stricken with panic. According to Enterbrain, the Xbox 360 sold 28,861 units during the week, while the Wii sold 27,057 (the PS3 managed 8,050).
Xbox 360 sales were more than likely spurred by the one-two punch of a Japanese price cut and the release of console-exclusive Infinite Undiscovery, which sold 86,708 units in its first week. MCV points out that the 360 has now sold 717,275 units in Japan -- the very foundations of our world would be shaken if it actually went on to sell a million units.

More importantly though what do US gamers think of this game?
Personally I haven't bought it. I'm still enjoying Lost Odyssey although I've beaten plenty of times already. And then there's Tales as well.
Just not feeling this game as much as those 2 but I'm sorta on an RPG craze now so I don't want to miss out on a good game. Anyone buy it yet and if so any opinions?

You should have stuck with it for more than the first hour. Many reviews have noted the game's inauspicious start. It's pretty painful for a bit, then it really gets rolling. I'm about ten hours in, and it's far better than the first couple of hours. Reminds me of a mix between Star Ocean and Final Fantasy XII.

i enjoy the game.
it is hard at times because nobody helps you through a lot of the game.
the free battle system is good a change from turn based.
the game is about 30 hours campaign so its not short and not too long.
i am about 18 hours into the game on disc 2 just beat the port zala boss, which took me about
dale- p.s.**spoiler alert for some** - the immpossible first battle is immpossible, u have to avoid it.. there are a few early battles that need to be avoided.
RPG's can be frustrating at times and this one has a few of those times.

Oddly enough, this seems to confirm what I'd said previously on the matter. The PS3 continues to sell about the same 8-9000 every week, while the 360's bumps eat into Wii sales, not PS3 sales. Bizarre.

It's probably the result of a wii shortage more than anything. Don't wet your pants over this.
Posted: Sep 17th 2008 6:56PM (Unverified) said
Does anyone still believe the whole "2 year Wii shortage" is anything less than Nintendo intentionally constraining the supply?
Nobody in electronics fails to ramp up production to meet demand over a 2 year span. Nobody.

So, supply constraint issues...fixed? :)
It'd be awesome if this thing really took off and the Xbox/LIVE brand became like Apple over there.

I've been waiting a while to buy a new system to supplement the lack of Wii games, and after seeing the recent prices cuts from Sony and MS, I opted for the 80g PS3. For my needs, its just a better value.

i wanna say kudos to Microsoft, but i'm sure they paid for this exclusive, so i'm not saying it. companies paying for exclusives (yes, even Sony) just doesn't sit too well with me. plus, i have no interest in IU.

How is paying a third party really that different to paying your own development staff to get exclusive software?
At the end of the day, it's about making sure your system has games that people want... and I am glad that Microsoft seem to realise this now.

NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2's high install-base was incentive enough for Square to make exclusives for those systems. 360's isn't, especially in Japan, where it's install base isn't even a third of PS3's. granted, i see nothing wrong with Square supporting 360, but to support them exclusively makes little sense financially, unless Microsoft offered an under-the-table incentive.

artimus- BTW. Microsoft Game Studios owns the rights to this game and co-published the game with square. Microsoft bought the game and took the risk not sony.
i bet if sony ps3 had this game you wouldnt have even that comment:wanna say kudos to Microsoft, but i'm sure they paid for this exclusive, so i'm not saying it. companies paying for exclusives (yes, even Sony) just doesn't sit too well with me. plus, i have no interest in IU.
did ff7, and gta, and other games sony paid for sit well with you on ps1 and ps2?

atrimus- u must be young or something..
historically speaking squareSOFT had been making games for nintendo systems, you know the original final fantasy games.
square has made games for nintendo first, then sony, and for some reason now microsoft and nintendo again.
they have been smart in making games for the most popular console during each generation.
that is smart for square to be around all these years making games for all of us on the most popular consoles.
1) nintendo- most popular before 97
2) sony- most popular 97-2006
2) microsoft and nintendo- most popular after 2006
square knows that games sell very well on the 360 also, at a higher attach rate than ps3.
keep in mind there are 5 million less ps3 consoles and also ps3 owners buy less games than 360 owners.
so square is looking for the largest audience.
and they probably don't want all the risks of publishing and spending millions of dollars.
they want a company like nintendo, sony, and or microsoft to take a lot of the risk also. those companies will not take those risks if the other consoles get those games too.

snes wasnt the only console in town. sega was a large market player then... kinda like ms vs. sony now.
sega lost out on those games back then.
u realize that square started making a lot of these games when the install base was much lower. u know it takes 1 - 5 years to make a game.
sometimes in business you have to think of the future and they have made good decisions over the years in their business strategy.
btw. who says square is supported the 360 exclusively..? you have it all wrong?
the last remnant is releasing on 360 first worldwide on the same day, then after its going to ps3.
ff13 is on ps3 and ff13 versus is exclusive to ps3.
sorry if MS game studios maybe went to square and asked them for more RPG's on their console with a big fat check for development.
the 360 was known as the shooter console and now people are realizing it is becoming the all around gaming machine.

Ever wonder if things would have been different if the Xbox 360 has JRPG support from the start? I think they would have been in a better position and both Sony and Nintendo would have been in a pickle. Well, not so much Nintendo, because no one expected the Wii to take off like it did.

it's good x360 is doing well and all, hopefully this means they'll make a better game next time because i was rather disappointed with infinite undiscovery. lost odyssey still remains my fav jrpg on the x360 (though i haven't played tales yet... should prolly get around to that).

I like this game half the time. It's like you have a blast until some weird framerate glitch happens, then for the rest of the time you are playing, you try to avoid it somehow by luring enemies away from hectic battles and planning which ones to attack so the framerate wont drop.
