Guitar Hero World Tour will be getting new functionality in a patch available one week after its release. Most excitingly, this feature is something that only PS3 can fully realize. According to Shacknews, World Tour will be gaining a MIDI sequencer, which encompasses rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, keyboard and drum tracks on the PS3. (It will be limited to only drum tracks on the Xbox 360 due to unspecified "hardware issues.")
"We have full, basically, computer editing control, at least on the PS3, through the music studio," Neversoft's Brian Bright stated in a Shacknews interview. "If you're a musician or you do any sequencing, it really just makes the pathway to getting your songs in the game that much easier--once you get it down. We just really want to give people enough tools to be able to make good music."
The feature won't be for everyone, of course. This is geared towards serious musicians that know how to work with MIDI on a computer. An extensive FAQ will be made available on the Guitar Hero site to help musicians take advantage of this exciting opportunity.

That's cool, and will make me buy the game despite it having Michael Jackson. I was worried the track creator was going to be like user-created content usually is, crap and leaving you wanting a proper professional team to produce extras.
If you can just use midi's and guitar tabs, that's pretty cool.

does this mean (potentially) you could take a song from a cd and put it on there? for example say putting a Incubus song on there?

No.
However, from the looks of the interface, you can get an Incubus midi of the song you have on CD and use that. It'll probably have a series of sounds for all the instruments it can map to the midi, so imagine playing a midi file, but instead of the midi sound you get a generic sounding guitar or drum, and that's what I think it'll be like.
If you could just pull something from a CD, you probably wouldn't like the results anyway.

I have a feeling this will be mysteriously removed...or will mysteriously appear in the 360 version. One way or another, Microsoft will insure that both games are identical.

I thought you could use a Line 6 Pod to put music into it... If you can't I'm not buying this game as I'm really really unhappy with the tracklist but the possibility of copying full shred songs through a Pod had me all giddy. I can see it now; full albums by Jeff Loomis, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmstein, Steve Vai, John 5........

I've asked this before and I'll ask it again. Following suit with how creating good Little Big Planet levels can get you a job, anyone think making really good songs or at least fun gameplay could land you a job at Neversoft? It worked for that guy who was really good at Tony Hawk.

As a keyboard player, I wonder if I could plug in my USB Midi Keyboard Controller to the Ps3 and play something?
