A NeoGAF user apparently snapped the photo seen above, featuring a promo for a $10 Beyond Good & Evil reissue coming this month. The sheet, allegedly stuffed in a GameStop binder, shows the reissue is only for the PlayStation 2 version. It'd be a shame considering the GameCube version would work perfectly well in all those millions of Wiis. The Xbox 360 does not currently support backwards compatibility for the Xbox version of the title.
We've contacted Ubisoft for confirmation of the information on the sheet. Meanwhile, this is a good a time as any to remind you of our "Where to find BG&E" post from earlier this year.
Update: Ubisoft's response to our inquiry: "We sell a PC Download of Beyond Good & Evil for $10 through our digital store." Um, that wasn't the question.

I grabbed this off steam a couple weekends back when it was $5
I started to play it but it wasn't rendering correctly so I couldn't see some of what was going on. I haven't tinkered with settings or anything since.
Anyone play this, is it good?

I bought the PC version a few weeks ago. Playing the game in full HD and 4xAA is so much better than breaking out my old PS2.
Sure, it was never meant to be a graphically intense game, but the brilliance of the art style gets brought out a lot more in HD.

Its not a huge game, sub 8-hours easily, if you don't go on the taking nature photos subgame too much.
I must have spent hours waiting for a whale to leap out of the water just right enough to capture a great shot.
Good times.

@Shagittarius: Um, pokemon snap with a broken fighting system? You're... KIDDING, right?
Granted the game is not the most super expansive, high end, deep and most fantastic experience out there, it did one thing that very few games manage to do:
Blur the line between a 'video game' and an 'interactive experience'. It had just enough storytelling and the like to make it appear as though one was watching a movie, with plenty of gameplay dashed in to make it so you weren't ENTIRELY just sitting and staring at the screen.
It's really interactivity at it's finest and for a small crowd of us gamers, it was an experience we don't really find in other games. It was originality that got overlooked by a multi-tude of other unoriginal titles being released at that time.
I don't think those who've played it see it as a holy grail of gaming... But is it apart of a genre that was dying out around that period and is starting to steadily receive a revival?
I'm refering to narrative styled games BTW, like Indigo Prophecy, Sam and Max, Silent Hill, games in which the experience is of the utmost concern and gameplay is a second thought. Sure, it may not be on the same scale of Call of Duty, Madden, Halo or the many other series more known amongst the mainstream and that's just it, but it's a treasured gem to what I believe would be the indie gamer crowd.
And we're going to finally get a sequel. So, why NOT play the first one? :P

I'm still super mad that BG&E is not backwards compatible on the 360. I bought it for my Xbox in "ye olden days" and while I was playing Pey'j disappeared and I couldn't beat it. So I got mad and put it away. I keep wanting to go back to it, but I don't have an XBOX right now.

Same, and I can't find my Xbox AV cables, so I just picked up the PS2 version. Plays great upsampled on my 60GB PS3 (though I have to keep enabling the progressive scan option every time i play it). Only 3 hours in so far and it's already great!

I hope this is true. This is one of those alleged masterpieces that I haven't played yet and have been meaning to. $10 will be hard to say no to.

I picked this game up on the Xbox shortly after it dropped in price to $20 (which was only a couple weeks after release). It is a masterpiece. You owe it to yourself to play this game.
I've been thinking about picking it up on GC since neither my PS3 or 360 are back compat with the PS2 and Xbox versions respectively.

So Wii is the only current gen system with backwards compatability that allows gamers to play Beyond Good and Evil. Wii also happens to be the current gen system with the largest install base BY FAR. And Ubisoft chooses *not* to re-release the GameCube version? Brilliant.
I know they are planning to limit the sequel to PS3 and XBox 360, and pressing custom GameCube discs is probably difficult and/or expensive now. So there is some good justification for the PS2-only decision, but it still seems like a missed opportunity (especially when I don't own or plan to buy a PS2).

While I agree the Wii is a missed market for this game, there are FAR more people playing PS2s than Wiis.

It really should get a Wii PORT rather than just a re-release.
All they'd need to do would be update the controls a little.. and if i remember right, i think the combat'd be pretty easy to map on to the wiimote.
I've wanted to buy this on steam for ages, but its not available over here... sigh.

I liked the game, but in no way is it going to live up to any pre-conceived notions of greatness. The puzzles are simple, the story is weird and the character really isn't that likable. Its a cult classic but that doesn't mean it's amazing.

You're right, I'm playing through the game right now for the first time. It's a good, fun game, but it's not some miraculous piece of gaming like people make it out to be. It's kinda like Zelda-lite. I'm still having a pretty good time though.

First I used GameFly to play the PS2 version. The framerate got abysmal quite frequently, but I was enjoying the game. I bought the Gamecube version and still have it. It played perfectly on that.
Now that it's on GameTap I played the PC version and also had some rendering problems (on a very dated computer).
It's because of that first paragraph that I'm shocked they're ONLY reissuing the PS2 version, which was unplayable by my standards.

The game was fun and charming. I played the gamecube.
Microsoft needs to get this working on the 360.
Seems batshit crazy for it to be available and just incompatible when there is a sequel around some subsequent corner.

The PC version is insanely hard to control, unfortunately - and thus I never really got into it. I'd be tempted to pick up a PS2 copy for that price, though - I'm assuming it must be better given all the hype around the game.

I believe a Wii port would be the only way they could do it, because I don't think those little GameCube discs are being produced anywhere anymore. PS2 games are still being put out and so the factories are probably still available for their continued production.
One of the reasons I'm constantly confused with the PS3 backwards compatibility.
