I spend around £60 on DS games a month, but often, unless it's spectacular, I tend to sell the games on. And because I usually import I can make £10, on top of the RRP, on every £20 game brought. So it's financially sustainable.

Well, I just bought a DS, after seeing them everywhere at PAX, so I guess I'm up to $300 by now. (DS, games, USB charging cable, flash cart...)

$300+ for the last few months and it'll stay this way for the rest of this year -___-

On average, I buy a game a month. So $30/month. I don't have time to finish games faster than that.

$20-$50 a month on average, which is anywhere from the price of a used game to the price of a new game and a used game. My only other systems are a PS2 and a Wii, and there's only Persona 4 on the horizon between either of those through the end of the year, so I don't really have a set fund for my drought-ridden consoles.

***Insert typical rant about using pirated roms and then bragging about it here***

Just in case the above poster was being sarcastic about "ranting", let's be serious. Bragging about DS piracy on a site purposed with promoting titles is a really jackassed thing to do. Doing it anywhere, for that matter.

While sarcasm was a component of my comment, it still amazes me that anytime that we have a discussion about game purchases that pirating still enters into the equation and people still think that bragging about it is alright. I personally don't pirate video games, and probably never will, however I can see how some people might feel the need. However to blatantly brag about it on a public forum (where a user could easily be tracked down) is mind-bogglingly stupid. My comment was a tongue-in-cheek reply because I knew that someone down the line would, as always happens, post a reply about people talking about pirating games.

As long as people are out there pirating games, I guess this is just a topic that will continue to pop up.

It depends on what's coming out, and whether or not the used video game shops in my area have anything good.

Just the other day, I lucked out and picked up a handful of really hard to find games at EB. But then again, some months I'll spend nothing. I guess the average works out to a reasonable amount of money over a long enough period of time....

Am I the only person who doesn't own a flash cart and download my games?

I don't know... let's compare the comments from people talking about spending money and the comments from people talking about pirating games. What do you think? Are you the ONLY PERSON who buys games?

Remember, there was math involved in today's topic. ;)

At the time of my posting (you are aware that more posts may be added over time, yes?) the split was about 50/50 of people who did mention buying an R4, and who did not mention an R4.

The rest was what we like to call "hyperbole", which is something people do to make what they say more interesting. But thanks for taking the time to show your superior grasp of number theory. Congratulations! You've shown how smart you are ON THE INTERNET. Your parents must be so proud.

I've been playing Etrian's Odyssey since June. That's almost 4 months. Assuming I finish it by early October, that's almost 5 months without buying a new game.

the moral: buy long drawn out RPGs and you'll save mega bucks!

Or buy infinitely replayable games like Clubhouse Games or Chessmaster.

I'm amazed when I hear reports like some of those above. I've bought a dozen games since I got my DS a year or so ago, and I chastise myself for having too many to ever actually play. With most of 'em, I've barely scratched the surface. The only game I ever "finished" is Phantom Hourglass, and I rushed through that with the help of a walkthrough.

Generally, I don't like games that can be finished. I like games I want to keep coming back to forever.

i spend quite a bit on my DS monthy (60-100 canadian dollars), since I tend to favour it over any consoles. I also get a bit paranoid about certain games (altus i am looking at you....) that tend to be really hard to track down the longer I wait after release day to purchase them, hence I tend to buy games that I will probably not be able to play in the near future, due to commitments in school. I can safely say that 80% of my games have yet to be finished.

I've actually been content with the DS games I own for quite a while now. Castlevania will be the first new game I've gotten in months. That's one series I can't pass up.

My buying habits come in spurts. When I feel like I need a new game, I'll read a ton of reviews until I see one I like, and then go out and buy it. But then I keep reading more reviews for other games and go out and buy those. And then I won't buy a game for a couple of months. I'll end up buying 2 or 3 games at a time. I'm in one of those spurts; I got FFIV a couple of days ago and will be picking up Shiren today :(

see, this is the interesting part.

The US Dollar has been so low for the last couple of years that it doesn't really hurt at all to import games to Europe.

The result being that I've been importing an absolute shit-ton of DS games, up to about 120 now...

I'd say I spend roughly 150 USD a month on DS games, which is really not a lot in local currency.

I haven't spent anything on the DS in months. I just got an R4 to cut back on the costs of my already limited income.
