Hell yes...I can egotistically not give a crap about anyone while I study the weather and news.. and at the same time be selflessly curing cancer!...Which I would otherwise not willingly do!..

I don't get it, what does a weather/news channel have to do with folding at home, what If I want to do one but not the other?

If are wanting to have just the news and the weather you do not get the choice. It is like buying pedigree and being unable to not help PETA by buying it.
Unless you want to try to justify not having it at all because you are counting the KB between Folding home or Life With Playstation.
It is another way to not crowd things and is a easy attachment of Folding Home. Not that you would care if it was there...as you would have to hold down Square to switch to the Folding Protein channel.

I'm glad I decided to stay up late tonight. Only 90% more to d/l before I can get the news and weather on my TV

I just got done playing with the program and it doesn't do anything really new, but I didn't expect much more. The news is linked from google and the weather is from the weather channel. If left alone, the program will display news from around the world. Also, it automatically plays music from my uploaded files. Basically all I wanted was a pretty news ticker that I could look at while doing my morning workout, and Sony delivered.

I don't actually watch TV so this is a nice solution for me. The original comment was supposed to be sarcastic though.

I'm in the same boat as you, Orchid...no TV piped in; the Samsung LCD is used for gaming/movies/music/computer. This will be a nice feature (and will serve as a reminder to add moar music to my PS3).

This things great, and the music its defaulted to (starry night) or soemthing is really relaxing to listen to whilst reading all the bad news from across the globe.
One thing i might ask is, is it possible to have live clouds/traffic, and be able to zoom all the way in such as on google earth?thatd be great.
A 1080p flight sim incorporated to this google earth/weather/news ticker would be great as well.

man I think Sony needs to find a way to get google's permission to make this thing also a google earth/maps/street view kind of thing. I mean they already have direct google search on the psp's xmb, so i have to think sony and google are pretty tight.
This is pretty cool, but i probably wont even use it, but man i would mess around with it alot if it added google earth, or If it was remote-playable with some kind of google maps integration. Sony, Your ALLLLMOST there with this bonus stuff on the system (btw I dont know how people see the system as one that lacks games. Also, why do multiplatform games only seem to count as 360 only games?) Seriously though, a few more updates like this and it would be pretty bitchin to dd more Remote play functionality... like watching dvds or playing ps2 games perhaps.... if fact why cant EVERY ps3 game be remote playable? I mean if only for things like the MGS Database (SERIOUSLY should have been remote playable) and Rock Band (ok a stretch, but it would still be cool:P)

That would take yonks to load. You can already sea how long google map takes. Wouldn't nearly be as flexible and seeing the streets etc is pointless for the PS3, if you want to see that, just go to the browser > Google > Maps.

I am sure they will update it in the future so it will be more local to your location but for now, they just wanted to get the basic out. Feel sorry for the UK, all we have is London ¬_¬
I couldn't get any further away from London without leaving England.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. I read about "Life" being available on RSS feed, so didn't have the details. So I went to the store first, it wasn't there, then went to "update", it downloaded firmware update that was released couple of days ago. So I had to sit through that, kept looking for it all over XMB afterwards thinking it must be there, couldn't find. I had to hit intertubes to find out WTF.

all the excitement of seeing the weather from places you might not be interested in and getting news by waiting longer than just opening the browser and going to Google news.
They could have gone to the effort of making the news appear in the application in a pop up window that was a part of the interface. On top of the NASA World Wind globe opening the browser not only looks crude but is very clunky.

Yeah I was surprised they crippled the browser by disabling the L3/R3 zoom. On alot of HDTVs the text is hard to read without making the page fullscreen and zooming.
It makes you wonder how bad it was before the delay.
