Rumor: PGR5 coming from Forza dev, could be announced next week

There's a rumor making the rounds today that Forza Motorsport studio Turn 10 is developing the next Project Gotham Racing, seeing as how series creator Bizarre Creations is now owned by Activision. This rumor sounds more than just a little familiar, don't cha think?
The more rumor-y core of this new rumor is that, according to AddictGaming's "reliable source" at Turn 10, the game will be unveiled as early as next week. Of course, the site also mentions an impending New Xbox Experience announcement scheduled for next week, which sounds like part of the previously busted "360 relaunch" rumor.

I have loved every PGR game to date and this still has me a little worried since it is a new developer. I know of Turn 10's background but it still has me worried on how it will play. Don't go realistic on me....
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Sep 18th 2008 11:48PM
I still play PGR 2 on my Xbox 360

same here
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 19th 2008 3:52AM
I play it on my original Xbox. And Rallisport Challenge 2 also.

I would love me some more PGR.. By the way, whatever happened to Forza 3? Did that never get announced?
Dirty @ Sep 19th 2008 1:06AM
I would rather have Forza 3 sooner, and make it 3 discs for all I care.
embassy @ Sep 19th 2008 1:16AM
man, i hope turn 10 can maintain PGR's style..that's one of the key selling points of the series.
that's always been my gripe with forza..it lacks a soul but is an impeccable simulator and customization tool...PGR is *all* soul.
now if they can combine the two?
:universe explodes:

I love the way Forza handles with the wheel. In contrast, PGR 3 feels way too twitchy. I would love it if Turn 10 brought better wheel-feel to the more forgiving and arcadey racer.

Definitely PGR3/4 are better with the regular pad than the wheel. Kudos to MS for an excellent regular pad.
No credits for the lousy wireless racing wheel and for the wheel versions of PGR3 and Forza 2 that list functions that require use of a D-pad (like Forza 2's rate player online) and cannot be activated by using an additional d-pad in concert with the MS Wireless Racing wheel.

man if turn 10 could bring pgr5 to 60fps i'd be ecstatic.

I've been loving pgr4, I hope the next doesn't divert from the style/feel that Bizarre produced.

Turn 10 has not done a great job of making Forza fun for the non-dedicated racer. I'm skeptical that they can make a PGR game as good as PGR2 (the best one so far).
They're the team I'd pick for Forza 3, they've shown good ability to make a realistic sim racer. But they aren't great on graphics and they don't make any particular effort to roll any kind of run into the games for the more casual racer.
Ah, who am I kidding? I couldn't possibly stand use that awful MS Wireless Racing wheel again anyway. It's really too bad MS cannot find a way to allow Logitech to make a good wheel for their console instead of making their own house brand lousy one.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Sep 19th 2008 6:08AM
That's because Forza is for "dedicated racers". Doesn't mean they can't do an awesome job with PGR.

Forza 2 has a physic's engine that runs at 360 frames a second. PGR5 wouldn't require them to dedicate so much of the 360's horsepower to physics. So I wouldn't be surprised if a Turn 10 developed PGR5 not only looks better than PGR4 but runs at 60fps as well. The only real question is if they can keep the same feel.
Also no bikes please. I know PGR is more of a sim/arcade hybrid but bikes and cars racing each other should be confined to pure arcade racers if that. A car just can't match a bike's acceleration.
Snowblind @ Sep 19th 2008 6:10AM
There's been rumours about this for a long time now, as long as they can nail the style of PGR and not just turn into a street racing version of Forza, then I look forward to it.
Oh.. and PGR does not need car customisation! Putting flags on them last year was one thing but it doesn't need to go any further than that.
Maverick Saturn @ Sep 19th 2008 6:47AM
Oh god...I just hope that should the rumour be true, the game doesn't resemble spaghetti
Tuxy79 @ Sep 19th 2008 8:19AM
I just hope development on PGR5 doesn't take away from FM3.
bearxor @ Sep 19th 2008 9:21AM
I'm sure T10 understands the differences between the PGR and Forza franchises and will act accordingly.
Still, PGR5 will unlikely have the same soul as the previous 4. However, there's no doubt PGR2 was the apex of the PGR franchise. PGR3&4 were good, but weren't as FUN to play as PGR2. PGR4 was a lot closer than PGR3, but still not quite there.
Maybe the franchise needs a fresh look from the outside. Whatever happens, I'm sure all PGR fans are anxiously awaiting to see what Bizarre's next project turns out to be.

So PGR was more "Arcade-y" than Forza? Damn, that's the only thing that kept me from getting PGR...I thought it was just Microsoft's own Gran Turismo.
Vidikron @ Sep 19th 2008 10:33AM
Yup... you're missing out if you prefer the arcade type racers. PGR isn't nearly as simmy as Forza/GT, but it's not nearly as arcadey as a game like Burnout. It's sits in the middle somewhere. What I love about the series is the fact that it has real cars, but has more of an arcade feel in the driving. It's a blast,IMO.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Sep 19th 2008 1:51PM
Thanks, Vid...I'll have to see if a friend of mine will let me borrow his PGR copies...I hate the fact that I've missed out on this for so long.
vgxtremist @ Sep 19th 2008 10:14AM
I just got a 360, and I am looking for a great racing game...maybe this, I hope!
VampireHunter Z @ Sep 19th 2008 2:22PM
I think PGR2 was the first game for XBL. Some of the tightest online competition I've ever seen. I was pretty good myself. Really, a lot of rock stars played this game. In my books it's the greatest racing game of all time.
If Turn 10 can capture the feel of that game I will return to the series. PGR 4 just didn't feel right with the bikes and extreme weather. Forza is a well done game but not nearly as fun as the PGR series. It's a lot to hope for but I trust that they will do a very good job.
