Shawn Elliot leaves 1UP, GFW Radio
Remember when the Podcast Rodeo told you that GFW Radio, The Brodeo, would continue to soldier on in the absence of fearless leader Jeff Green? It would seem that we were lying. Though it probably could have withstood the dissolution of its magazine and the loss of Green, the departure of Shawn Elliot was apparently more than it could handle. Our favorite philosophizing, rap master game journalist announced yesterday that he was leaving 1UP for 2K Boston (as if we needed another reason to creepy stalk poor KennyL). The final episode of GFW Radio is up now.
Elliot joins a list of recently departed 1UP staffers that has become too long for us to remember. He'll be associate producing a mystery project at the 2K Boston: great news for the "us" two years from now, but absolutely bad news for us today. See you later, boss. Give Ken a back rub for us.

Bad, Bad news. I can see why this may have been a little too much for the Brodeo to recover from. They say there will be something new in the future though, so I hope that's just as good.
Good luck to Shawn.
Lucifon @ Sep 18th 2008 9:30AM
It was a joke :P he said so on the latest podcast.
ste @ Sep 18th 2008 9:36AM
you never listened to the whole of the last gfw podcast jump to 30 mins in
richie579 @ Sep 18th 2008 9:42AM
I hope it was a joke...Shawn is too cool for skool and always hilarious on the 1up yours podcasts...if true, he will be missed.
Brad @ Sep 18th 2008 9:43AM
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it were a joke. Not even if he actually stopped working there for a few months, then popped back in sometime in 2009, "Ha! Gotcha!"
Logic Bus @ Sep 18th 2008 9:50AM
He makes it clear pretty early on in this week's podcast that it was a joke -- He's not really leaving.
SHAZAM! @ Sep 18th 2008 10:08AM
Listen to the whole thing. He definitely is leaving...
Veko @ Sep 18th 2008 10:09AM
Haha, Justin just got Shawn-rolled!
I believed it because of this post before I started listening. Shawn Elliot wins again.
Veko @ Sep 18th 2008 10:13AM
Oh, I see...I was Shawn-rolled. >.>
WhoMe @ Sep 18th 2008 10:44AM
Classic Shawn Elliot.
Classic Joystiq.
Wubbytoes @ Sep 18th 2008 10:18AM
Man, this really sucks.
angryemu @ Sep 18th 2008 11:12AM
I've taken for granted that every week I'm going to get top-notch commentary from the Brodeo. 1up Yours is good, but the Brodeo seemed to be a step above when it came to quality discussion. It's a shame to have such a valued industry perspective silenced. I only hope that Green and Elliot find another venue to continue their excellent intellectual dialog in a public forum.

Joystiq, just a reminder:

You think THAT has nothing to do with Hsu, Green, and Smith, as well as the closing of GFW?
princeofshapeir @ Sep 18th 2008 11:56AM
The Brodeo is Dead. Long Live the Brodeo.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2008 12:02PM
Thank God.
He just spent all his time explaining how he's more literate than you. Listen to his big stroke session about Braid.
Protip:
Don't ever use the word "deconstructing".

Well, I guess I can nix GFW from my podcast lineup. God, if Shane and Garnett go it'll make a clean sweep of my favorite 1UP personalities.
Nick Suttner, Anthony G., & the new blood are cool guys, but many of the core luminaries are leaving.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2008 1:35PM
Yeah, the way it's going, Shane, Garnett and Skip will just have to leave and take the podcast with them. It's almost all that's left.
princeofshapeir @ Sep 18th 2008 2:23PM
I still feel the loss of Bryan Intihar the most (he and Zuniga had great chemistry on the anomaly and both were really into it), and EGM Live going the way of the do-do sucked too (although 1UP FM is good in it's own right). That being said, Nick Suttner is pretty cool, and Garnett/Shane are the flagship of the 1UP network. Having John Davidson on for the last month hasn't hurt either. If Garnett/Shane ever leave then 1UP would be in the same boat as Gamespot was after the Gerstmann incident.

Fragile Eagle is awesome! Although the Insomniac podcast leaves something to be desired (not his fault).
John is fantastic too.
Nick, et al. on 1UP FM are doing a good job. It's taking a bit of time to get it into tune, but all the right ingredients are there. It should be a good podcast in no time.
J.Goodwin @ Sep 18th 2008 1:10PM
Awesome. I'll need to buy him a beer or something now that he's in town.
axion22 @ Sep 18th 2008 1:22PM
great, just GRATE.
Oh well, good news for you, crackelroy, you just jumped up a rung on the podcast ladder.
Mike @ Sep 18th 2008 1:43PM
I was upset when he left the 1UP Yours podcast. This sucks even more.
turtles or penguins @ Sep 18th 2008 3:19PM
Wish it was Shane leaving.
ogvor @ Sep 18th 2008 4:02PM
We'll just got to chuff it out.
syrik zero @ Sep 18th 2008 4:49PM
That's right
ApolloIV @ Sep 18th 2008 4:59PM
Amen
ogvor @ Sep 18th 2008 5:26PM
Somehow I managed to mess that up:
we'll just 'have' to Chuff it out.
Tesley @ Sep 19th 2008 2:12AM
yup! unfortunately!!!!
MarkyMark @ Sep 18th 2008 8:54PM
ARE U CHUFF ENOUGHH
Doom3killer @ Sep 18th 2008 9:38PM
I feel chuffing sad right now.
dmondm @ Sep 20th 2008 4:08PM
