Wii Music release announced for October 20
Nintendo has announced that Wii Music – which "turns players' movements into great music, even if you've never picked up an instrument before" – will be released in North America on October 20. If you had a copy of Wii Music, and it had one of those sad party blowers that never really work as an instrument, you could "blow" it right now by, um, waving the Wiimote. Or maybe a slide whistle would be more apropos.
Remember: exercise caution when driving to the store right now to pre-order Wii Music. There's no need to drive all crazy; the streets will probably be jammed with people doing just that. Why wouldn't they be?

Actually that picture is more complicated than what Wii music is.
Markez @ Sep 18th 2008 7:34PM
If you exclude menu selection, then they're essentially equals.
Sigh.
Ugh god.
This game is going to be a horrendous pile of garbage. Can't wait to see what the 'reviews' will be like.
Mr Khan @ Sep 18th 2008 7:57PM
I actually wonder how the reviews will shape up myself. It'll separate the mature journalistic outlets from the immature, though. I could definitely see a bunch of outlets run by pissed off hardcore gamers giving the game a 0 out of hand
It'll be interesting to see how low the metacritic score will get
Alvin @ Sep 18th 2008 8:09PM
so true, i would have more fun with that
Tiptup300 @ Sep 18th 2008 8:23PM
Wii Music is the equivalent of playing a bad song and waving your penis around.....just a little less fun.
time @ Sep 18th 2008 8:30PM
To be honest, I don't think this "game" should be reviewed. It's like reviewing a children's toy.
WhoMe @ Sep 18th 2008 8:46PM
"I actually wonder how the reviews will shape up myself. It'll separate the mature journalistic outlets from the immature, though. I could definitely see a bunch of outlets run by pissed off hardcore gamers giving the game a 0 out of hand"
Exactly. And, judging by how Joystiq has commented on this game so far, they fall into the "immature" category.
Wii Music is game, but it is not targeted at you Joystiq, get that through your thick skulls. And by the way, hating on this game doesn't make you look cool.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Sep 18th 2008 10:03PM
Oh for FUCKS SAKE... when Joystiq tore into Sony for their nongames related to PSEye on PSN, none of you people gave a damn. But chuck a bad word at what is genuinely considered one of the worst ideas Nintendo has had since 10 Yard Fight and you guys are ready to play defense force.
Look, it's not a game. Hell, it's not even music. It's that Barney the Dinosaur banjo that was a popular kids toy ten years ago. Action cues next toys. Weeeeeeee, giggle.
If reviewers tear into this shit software, maybe it deserves it? Nintendo announced the damn thing talking about how complex music games were. Remember their music game? Left, Right, Clap.... blowing my fucking mind with all these commands.
I mean, let's put it this way. WHAT GAMER in their right mind defends a non game sporting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Yankee Doodle Dandee on it's track list? It's completely indefensible.
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 18th 2008 10:21PM
Whome I don't think you're in a position to call anyone immature after your unprovoked comment on Americans in the MMO article recently.

I have to admit, I drank the Nintendo cool aid more often than I care to admit. But Wii music is waaaay too much of a left-fielder for me.
Pass.
MKA @ Sep 18th 2008 7:26PM
HOLY CRAP! I cant wait! good thing the local gamestop is walking distance from my work. Im going to camp out.
Triforceowner @ Sep 18th 2008 7:34PM
I think this is one of those guys that PR companies pay $.10 a post to hype a game. JK if you really are psyched to play the game, because it's not fair to make fun of people for having a good time.
WRE @ Sep 18th 2008 7:53PM
"I think this is one of those guys that PR companies pay $.10 a post to hype a game."
That or, you know, he's being sarcastic or something...

HOLY SHIT WHERE DO I SIGN ON, A DIME REALLY!? A 10 CENT PIECE!?
OH MAN I CANT WAIT TO TRADE THOSE IN FOR SOME SUSAN B'S!!!
giantenemycrab @ Sep 18th 2008 7:31PM
Sweet! Too bad it'll be sold out until 2011 for "overwhelming demand." I'm really sick of Nintendo's BS.
mr nimblewick @ Sep 18th 2008 8:07PM
Have they ever had constrained supplies of a game? Wiifit has hardware which constrains it.
And I really don't see how people complain about the supply, as it is still far outselling the other consoles.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Sep 18th 2008 7:32PM
That picture is proof that Fisher-Price peripherals are coming to consoles!
Man, I can't wait to play games with a Fisher-Price learning centre. The prospect of putting square shaped blocks in square shaped holes and turning dials excites me to no end.
Huey2k2 @ Sep 18th 2008 7:33PM
You must be one of those new gamers that Nintendo is catering to now.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Sep 18th 2008 7:42PM
Yeah, but I'm more towards the hardcore gamer crowd so I've spent years building up my hand-eye coordination and motor skills.
Your casual Wii gamers would make many futile attempts to put the square block into the circular hole. And don't even get them started on the spinning ball that's fixed to the learning console dashboard...
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 19th 2008 9:46AM
Nintys next periph..... the Sesame Street phone.
Call up Big Bird, Grover, and the rest from a easy to use interface.
Speak to the gang while your Mii parties in "da street" on screen.
Oversized numbers for easy typing.
Foam handset to prevent use as a weapon.
Fun for all ages.....0-3yrs only.

SCREW ROCK BAND WII MUSIC FTW

another craptastic Sesur post; brilliant!
Yourself @ Sep 18th 2008 9:33PM
Every time I hear the word "craptastic," it just makes me hate the human race a little bit more. Was there really no other negative adjective sufficient, that we had to invent this witlessly craptastic colloquialism?
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 18th 2008 9:41PM
Another defensive Wii comment from WRE. Brilliant!
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 18th 2008 10:24PM
Yeah WRE isn't going to win any originality awards for that comment. Then again, neither will the OP. The wii gets so many terrible games that there's no point saying "Oh look another bad wii game" anymore. It's only news when the one decent game comes around every 6 months or so.
WRE @ Sep 18th 2008 10:59PM
tmac, Immortal Technique,
Seriously? You guys are calling me out on basis of originality? You two? That's some rich irony there, boys. Send me a note when every other thing you post isn't about how you hate the Wii SO HARD.
Sesur @ Sep 18th 2008 11:33PM
@WRE
You seriously want to pick this... um.. "game" to start getting your panties in a bunch over? Even the most zealous fanboys should be able to admit this a giant shit sandwich with a official Nintendo seal slapped on.
WRE @ Sep 19th 2008 1:18AM
This game is a giant shit sandwich with a[n] official Nintendo seal slapped on.
vidGuy @ Sep 18th 2008 7:47PM
What'll be interesting to see is if Wii Music can sell out even with the hardcore fans rejecting it.
I'll predicted it now: Wii Music will sell 6 million copies, following in the (commercial) success of Wii Fit.
J @ Sep 18th 2008 9:17PM
Did the hardcore fans' hatred towards Wii Fit ever hamper on its successful sales?
That being said, in comparison to Wii Fit, a huge swing into left field, I don't see what the big deal is with Wii Music. I figured we're already used to the whole "it's like I'm playing an instrument, but I'm really not!" thing.
Meloche @ Sep 18th 2008 10:59PM
The difference between this and Wii Fit, is the fact that Wii Fit isn't meant to be a "game", and it's fun. Wii Music, is a "toy", and doesn't look fun. At all.
Mr Khan @ Sep 18th 2008 7:53PM
Yeah, it'll be a dark day indeed.
The concept isn't a bad idea, really. It's just the fact that they themselves have admitted that its not a game, and it doesn't really have a point, it's more of a musical toy. Their words, not mine.
Expanded market is all well and good, but don't insult their intelligence.
mr nimblewick @ Sep 18th 2008 8:10PM
As long as they aren't lying about, why do you have a problem. They aren't trying to convince that it'll have great gameplay, but rather saying, hey, if you want a music toy for your wii, here it is.
That being said I'm really disappointed in it. It could have been cool.
bm @ Sep 18th 2008 8:44PM
Because internet, nimblewick. Because internet.
Someday they'll grow out of this whole phase of going to some website and trying so very hard to let other people on the internet know that they don't like something. And they're going to look back and laugh and say, man, I was such a silly little guy.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Sep 18th 2008 10:07PM
That, or the entire project itself is like a Rhino headbutting your crouch in comparison to Electroplankton.
Superstar90 @ Sep 18th 2008 10:40PM
Don't use Wii Music in the same area, phrase or paragraph as Electroplankton. Electroplankton was a great effects/visualizer thing, and it was actually fun every once in a while... especially when high.
On the subject, I wonder if soulja boy has ever played it?
Superstar90 @ Sep 18th 2008 10:41PM
Oh, I never understood what you said, sorry Sheppy.
But + for you liking Electroplankton. :P
