Animator: Rare not currently working on further retro revivals
Bad news for anyone who wants a new version of Cobra Triangle. It seems that Rare isn't looking to bring back any more of its classic franchises "at the moment," according to Senior Animator Elissa Miller. In an interview with Britain's 360 Gamer (re-reported by CVG), Miller explained "we've always got to have a reason to revive a franchise, we don't do games just for the sake of them." Fair enough, but really, if you just wanted to make a new Snake, Rattle 'n' Roll just for the sake of making it, well, we wouldn't really mind. Honest.

Samfish: "not currently planning to buy any further Rare games"
NoHitHair @ Sep 19th 2008 10:47PM
Rare would be better off spending their time and efforts on hiring a wrecking crew for their headquarters so we never have to hear from those pathetic hasbeens again.
I used to count Rare amongst my most respected and admired gaming companies. Given their track record post-Nintendo, it's insulting that they've chosen to do anything other than immediately fold and pretend the past 6 years hasn't happened.
Dirty @ Sep 19th 2008 3:52PM
awwww man does this mean no Conker? =[
We need more games with fart humor.
Courtney @ Sep 19th 2008 4:07PM
I don't know that I would count Conker out. As the most recent version of Conker is just a few years old (even if it was part remake), I'm not sure that would count as a revival. I take the word revival to typically mean bringing back games that are at least 10 years old.

Mr Khan @ Sep 19th 2008 4:03PM
Would that also include Killer Instinct?
Bigfoot @ Sep 19th 2008 4:13PM
Looks like it. :( /cry

I once had a dream that not only had a killer instinct 3 been created, but I owned it and the new system that it came out with. I woke up, immediately forgetting the whole thing. Later that day, as I was going home, I drove past an arcade, and it all came rushing back to me.
I cannot describe how painful the realization was that it was only a dream.
Ranus Studios @ Sep 19th 2008 4:05PM
Well, they said they need a reason to revive a franchise; therefore, Killer Instinct is coming back on the grounds that it is awesome.
Armond @ Sep 19th 2008 4:06PM
I hope that does not include Killer Instinct.
Fernando Rocker @ Sep 19th 2008 4:09PM
I want a new Jet Force Gemini... that game was a gem.
Top Cat @ Sep 19th 2008 5:18PM
Ah Fernando, you couldn't be more right.
*rips head off a teddy bear for nostalgia's sake*
Poke4Christ @ Sep 19th 2008 4:11PM
GRRRRR...
Want... New... Jet... Force... Gemini!!!!
ice~ @ Sep 19th 2008 4:23PM
I want an actual Banjo platformer, not this nuts & bolts crap...don't get me wrong im still getting N&B but i don't consider it banjo...i consider it a driving/minigame/puzzler game with banjos face slapped on it
Poke4Christ @ Sep 19th 2008 4:48PM
Dude, isn't it a little early to bad talking this game? Wait till the reviews are out or maybe even when you actually try the game. Personally, I think it's gonna be amazing. The only reason they have the vehicles is because the levels got to big to run through with Banjo. Don't think that's that bad. It will still be a classic platformer.
ice~ @ Sep 20th 2008 1:14PM
Whoa I'm not bad talking it and I do think it's gonna be amazing...I'm just saying it's not the kind of banjo game I expected...though I've been reading some previews...the new one on ign for instance, and I'm hearing a lot of negative things
Nintendork @ Sep 19th 2008 4:39PM
Donkey Kong Country 4 not in the works?
juju187 @ Sep 19th 2008 6:13PM
the wii might need an expansion pack
Evan @ Sep 19th 2008 4:51PM
At least they won't be ruining any more retro titles by changing them. They tried to change Starfox into a platformer, Conker's Bad Fur Day into an FPS, and most recently, are trying to change Banjo Kazooie into a vehicle game. What's next, a BATTLETOADS RPG? Rare should be restrained from changing any more retro franchises.
EdgeZephyr @ Sep 19th 2008 4:53PM
Truth be told, I'm hoping more for those remakes of Goldeneye + Perfect Dark we've heard rumors of for XBLA, but I can't deny how wonderful a new Killer Instinct or Jet Force Gemini would be. =(
B @ Sep 19th 2008 5:12PM
No reason to be interested in Rare anymore after BK.
parkds @ Sep 19th 2008 5:29PM
Ah...what I wouldn't give for the return of Cobra Triangle or Snake, Rattle, 'n Roll. Oh well, back to playing them on the NES.
The3rdNuisance @ Sep 19th 2008 5:35PM
Microsoft, take one of the people that run Rare out each day, and start wailing on them screaming things like "Monster Combo" "C-c-c-c-combo breaker" until they agree to make a new Killer Instinct for XBox Live Arcade, that instead of being a reinvented franchise, is just a better version of the good old ones.
And please, have them keep the 3D out. They put 3D in, thats when you get into a ripped up, sky blue leather ninja outfit, and start hitting them with a glowing green sword 'til they learn its a bad idea... took me 10 years to realize that Jago was the most homoerotic ninja ever designed.
Twist @ Sep 19th 2008 9:31PM
I personally would truly love to see a remake of Cobra Triangle released on XBLA. A remake of R.C. Pro Am would be nice too.
ELUNO @ Sep 19th 2008 11:25PM
Noooooooooo! I want some RC PRO AM!!!!
Antonio @ Sep 30th 2008 8:09PM
Peter Moore summed up everything that needs to be said about this company. It's amazing how this organization in 10 years time can go from being one of the most promising and innovative companies in the industry to the biggest embarrassment of the video game industry. I second the notion that Rare should buy demolition equipment and tear down Rare headquarters.
Killer Instinct III should have already been a platinum hit for the 360 by now. We may never see that game.
OTAM @ Sep 20th 2008 5:40PM
I don't see why people take such a huge shit on Rare. Stop comparing the new games to the old games. Actually, stop comparing games PERIOD. Play the games for what they are. PDZ was a pretty fun shooter,I enjoyed all the weapons and crazy looking characters in the game. The multiplayer modes like Infection were also fun as hell over Live with your friends. Kameo was a solid and fun game. Viva Pinata,no matter how "kiddy",was addictive as hell and also really cool with the art style and overall idea.
I've played most of the Rare games. From Jet Force to Donkey Kong Country, from Conker to Killer Instinct. I enjoyed those games just like I enjoy the games they make now. People need to stop taking such a shit on Rare, realize it's a different staff, and give them some breathing room.
