There are now conflicting reports about the week the Earth stood still. It seems the Xbox 360 may not have outsold the Wii in Japan last week, as Media Create's data contradicts that of Famitsu owner Enterbrain, which shows that the Wii actually triumphed. Well, that explains why we're all still here ... because the fabric of existence should have completely torn itself apart.
The Media Create data shows that the Wii sold 29,686 units (up 2,500 from Enterbrain's count), while the Xbox 360 unit count is roughly the same as Enterbrain's figure at 28,188. Now it's time for us to get Uncle Chester out of the bunker and tell him that Fallout 3 won't be an edutainment title.

uh, not really, it would actually be an achievement if it sold considerebly well despite having a high profile game...

"Almost beat Wii in Japan for 1 week" 60G
"Outsell Wii in Japan for 1 week" 500G
Now lets see if they can get that last one...

Wow, who cares which console wins? The thing you SHOULD care about is this ad on your page for Walletpop. It looks like goatse.

While I don't care much for which console sales the most, being a 360 owner, I'm happy that they are selling more consoles in Japan because a BIGGER Japanese install base will mean a HIGHER chance that Japanese developers will choose to put their games on the console seeing as there's a better chance for them to make additional money.
... and that means a bigger variety of games for me to play on my 360. Woohoo!

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I meant more in the way of fanboys. I guess I wasn't clear. :)

This is not really relevant to the thread, but I'd like to congratulate Joystiq for not posting that ridiculous XBOX 360 Pure hoax that originated from CAG earlier today. Tons of blogs picked it up, I'm glad you guys are a step above Rumortaku.
(But you still have to make amends for citing a VGChartz post earlier this month).

Although both X3F and Engadget posted the rumor, I'm glad they didn't have the Hissy Fit (at least last I checked they didn't) that Kotaku.com did once they found out the true background behind the user's posting at CAG.

Agreed about the hissy fit. Gizmodo/Kotaku tried to make it an issue of CAG's credibility when to me it goes more to gizmodo/kotaku's credibility.

Oh well... At least the 360 outsold the PS3, that's a win.

I wonder if other consumer goods have such loyal sales followings. Like do cat fanboys scream and cry when dogs outsell cats in japan for a week? Or do the Helmanns real mayonnaise fanboys whine when they are consistently outsold by Miracle Whip?

I love Helmann's. Miracle Whip is WAAAAAAAY too sweet.

Oh, and if mayonnaise cost $300 a jar, there'd be fanboys. Nobody likes to think that they should have gotten the other thing or buyer's remorse, which is why people write red-faced spittle-flecked posts on Joystiq.
Me, being a true mayonnaise connoisseur, would buy both types.

So what makes Media Create's numbers any more reliable than Famitsu's?
From everything I've heard, both are as likely as the other to be wrong. Both use trends and formulas to calculate the numbers they don't count up.
We'll never know which actually sold more.

I have to vent. DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!
They wouldn't repair the optical drive in my old 360, so I bought a new core to replace it. It's quieter and all and my problems are over, right? Nope. The new console locks up at random, you cannot start a new garden in Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. My old system, despite occasional "unreadable" errors, can do so. I called Max (1-800-4myxbox) up and the woman kept me running through steps, finally admitting she couldn't even repair my console because their system was down.
MS can't make a console that works (this is my 6th repair) and they can't even make a computer system for their repair agents that works? What can they do right.
Death to 360.
