Halo 3 Title Update 2 coming September 23
The not-so-mythical Halo 3 Title Update 2 is coming September 23, confirms Bungie. The update will be automatically downloaded, although some people may need to reset their Xbox 360's cache. Updates will include a new ranking system, some "invasive" changes to the playlists, new achievements and a visual overhaul to Bungie.net, which is slowly being rolled out now with more to come next Wednesday.
As for the achievements, which haven't yet been explained (we're willing to bet "Poor Yorick" has something to do with skulls ...), Smith notes that one achievement will be withheld until September 25, which happens to be Halo 3's birthday.

Do people get the Marathon references when they see these sort of things?
Dirty @ Sep 19th 2008 1:40PM
I see an In-and-out reference.

and the blatant star wars reference

Still crossing my fingers for some secret announcements on the 25th.

Same here. With only 1/3 of the leaked achievements confirmed thus far, and Lukems's cryptic line at the end of the latest update saying "The night is darkest before the dawn. Dawn is about to break.", I think it's safe to say they've got something big to unveil next Thursday.

I'm betting Bungie isnt giving us every bit of info just yet. Remember the EDGE video? Hmmm. Map Editor? hmm

I play a bit of Halo with my friend, and I'm excited for this update, but it is going to change a lot. There are separate rankings for each playlist which sounds neat, but we'll see how well it works for improving matchmaking. They are also making some major changes to the playlists, including the removal of Big Team Battle from the ranked and social playlists. The only way to play big team is in the new DLC Objective playlist (which requires buying the new maps). The new maps will also be required for team doubles.
I don't mind this so much because I bought the maps way back when. It does seem designed to do two things:
1: Get people to buy the new maps (in order to play Big Team, or Team Doubles)
2: Get people to try some of the less popular gametypes, without messing with the ever popular 'slayer' playlists.

You didn't mention that only a third of the leaked achievements will be coming out with the update. I assume that there will be more with the next map pack.
And Bungie will do something on the 25th, but methinks it will be more along the lines of a special playlist or hidden picture on the map.

The map pack must not be selling too well if they need new achievements tied to the pack as additional incentive.
Also, *most* of the achievements have already been explained.

Check bungie.net, the achievements were explained 2 or 3 weeks ago in the weekly update.
Can't wait for this! Not that I need an excuse to play more.

So, is this the big announcement they were supposed to make? Or are they still gonna make Halo 4/Ghost Recon ODST?
beatboxtaun @ Sep 19th 2008 2:55PM
YES!!! I just can't get enough of Halo
