Why would they patch it if it was intentional?

its said that Molyneux wanted to give players the "choice" by putting a temptation in front of us - every choice has a concequence. It's also said that if we've devoted ourselves to making millions, then we'll end up weak and feeble in-game.

Ugh. Read his original comments. He never said it was intentional. Seriously. Gaming "journalists" need to be a little more accurate in their reporting.

Actually, that's exactly what he told IGN. Reading comprehension is your friend.

Reading comprehension is apparently not your friend, Chad. Kabapu had it right. There's no direct Peter M. quote in the IGN article at all; this is all they said:

"Molyneux has said that they are well aware of the cheat and that those who used it to earn their money will be in for a surprise."

That doesn't mean it was intentional, just that they're aware of it. Try not to be such a dick next time!

One moment, lemme put my tin foil hat on...

I'm thinking one of two things happened;

1. Molyneux intentionally put the glitch, though I guess it should be called a "Feature", in and was planning something to happen to those of us who used it in Fable 2. For whatever reason, perhaps unable to implement it properly or fear they might punish legit players (if they made x amount of gold the trigger instead of doing the cheat I guess) and the feature was pulled.

2. See option 2 in the OP. Kind of how our parents would lie to us about something terrible happening if we didn't stop doing something bad.

But surely you can still use the exploit, even if you downloaded the patch (with the HDD maintaining code and play the game offline from their)? They don't reset your gold, do they?

The game can still punish you. Opening cinematic;

You were playing, they saw you cheat, they do something to you (maybe left you a scar), and then *reset* your gold and let you start playing again.

I haven't patched yet... Does it reset your money?

If not, I'll just not update and keep using the exploit until launch day.

The only problem with that plan is maybe Fable 2 will only let you transfer over your guy if your Pub Games is up to date. Not sure though.

I sent this in about 4 days ago. It does not resent your money or items. It only fixes the glitch and resets the leaderboards. You will still have your 10 trillion gold.

Yeah I sent it in too. First come, first credited probably. It doesn't reset your money though or your Inventory or Concept Art. Just the leader boards and the glitch.

Could they really have built in anything too extreme of punishment for cheating by the time they realized the game had a glitch? They would've been almost done, right?

Maybe this was all intentional... Maybe they wanted people to make trillions, now they are stopping the cash flow and implementing some type of program to catch the cheaters. There might be some consequences in game as of now because of the recent patch.

Why do people assume that any "punishment" will be based on how much money you have? If this glitch was in fact programmed in, then punishment would be based on how many times you used it and how much you made when using it. If it was programmed in then the game will know what you bet, how much you should have won and how much you DID win.. not to mention it would know how many times you used the cheat.

The IGN article only states that "Molyneux has said they were well aware of the cheat..." This isn't a direct quote from Molyneux nor does it even imply that the question was put to Molyneux during the interview. The author of the article may only have been repeating what he had read in other reviews or on some blog. Joystiq misquotes the IGN article by adding"...the cheat was no accident..." [Ross Miller 9-16-08 of Joystiq]. Gamespot interviewed Molyneux on 9-18-08 and asked, "Was the glitch something you planned?" Molyneux's response was,"I'm not going to say anything about that. All I'm going to say is that Fable is all about looking at what you're like as a player...Don't expect there not to be consequences; after all, let's remind ourselves that Fable says every choice has a consequence."

As for what those 'consequences' are, we can only guess so please remember that all these post comments are only guesses. If anyone has applied the patch, I'd like to hear what affect it had on the pub game. Also, if anyone has a quote from Molyneux stating he planned the glitch, then please put in where the article can be found and what date it was written.

Wait, why think critically about something when it's so much easier to take a blog post as truth instead of a direct source?!

i guess no one else planned for all this but me. i have stashed a few thousand across a few names and im still building the largest bankroll with one.. planned on importing a lil bit at a time when needed (if possible)..

it all seemed too easy to me, my guess is the more money you import the bigger the penalty.. i hope the exploit was deliberate because otherwise there would be a limited number of ppl who didnt use it but did make a lot of money..

I don't think it would be a good idea to be penalized by how much money you bring in, using that to determine whether you've cheated or not. Many people have made tons of money honestly, and they'd be none too happy if they got in trouble, too.

What I can see happening, to keep it fair to everyone, is for your character's gambling rating to go up, either based on the amount of money you've made, or the tournaments you've won. That would keep it fair to all... because if you've made a million gold (honestly or dishonestly) you're a gamblin' fool!

Yea, the cheat wasn't intentional, and I bet all the buyers of Fable 2 will be downloading a patch on day 1 that punishes them. Lame!

I've calculated this, He had said that it would probably cost around 100 million to buy everything in the game, at the avg. rate while using the glitch it will take you anywhere from 100-255 hours to earn 100 million, now without at about .3 gold earned after about 6 hands without the glitch taking about a minute it should take around 3703 hours to make 100 million even with the glitch that is a lot of dedication to making that money so what you've made regardless of how you made it should remain the same with no reprocussions

perhaps you will be mauled by dogs or something

i have used the glitch now and i am scared so i might not merge my characters

HOWEVER, if i had not used the glitch, i would have a 4 star gambler rating and 14,000gp in debt. I now am 5 star, with all of the Fortune's Tower items (i DIDNT use the glitch!!!!!) a comfy bed and a nice game to play with villagers. Oh and a nice SMALL sum of 16,000gp.

I dont want to make masses of money (i purposely lost loads) because that is stupid. I just want the cool items.

If this glitch makes my character evil straight off the bat then i will make a new profile straightaway. (i want to be good the first time!)
