Fable 2 Pub Games receives patch, gold exploit fixed
It appears that the "intentional" money-grubbing exploit in Fable 2 Pub Games was a limited time offer -- the game's development team has followed through on their promise of an update for the XBLA companion to Lionhead's upcoming action-RPG, removing the gold-garnering glitch and resetting the Fortune's Tower (the aforementioned glitched game mode) leaderboards. Mercifully, they've apparently allowed the title's nefariously wealthy exploiters to keep their piles of loot. We'll see if it was worth it when their Fable 2 characters are mysteriously stricken with an incurable case of dysentery -- provided Molyneux's threat wasn't just a bluff.

Can't wait for Fable 2

So they removed an intentional feature?
Odd that.
John Perkins @ Sep 21st 2008 8:12PM
Agreed. This is one of the reasons I don't believe that it was intentional.
If it was, I think it would have been brilliantly awesome, but I just don't buy it.
Still... very much looking forward to the game. It was barely on my radar before E3, and some of the stuff I saw out of PAX really caught my attention.
finnith @ Sep 21st 2008 8:35PM
I have a hard time believing that it was an intentionally put in there, but if it was, it would have been somewhat of an fun experiment to see how many people would cheat. I doubt it though.
John Perkins @ Sep 21st 2008 7:13PM
No way do I believe it was intentional. They may do something in the game to people who have way too much gold, but what happens if you simply won the gold without cheating? I've got almost 6,000 in gold and didn't do the exploit, will they punish me as well?
I used the slot machine game, went into 60,000 gold in debt before I dug myself out and won a little. Is that cheating? I hit a couple jackpots in a row, and now am I going to be punished? At how much gold do they consider you to have cheated?
Vidikron @ Sep 21st 2008 7:17PM
6000 is likely chump change for most of the people that used the exploit. There are people out there with millions via the exploit. So, no, I doubt you would be punished in any case. I suspect that there may be counters in game that keep track of how many times you've played each game or something similar. They would be able to tell from that and how much money you have to see if you used the exploit.
Or it's all a bluff and they have no way of knowing and no one will be punshished at all.
Sam406 @ Sep 21st 2008 7:35PM
Don't jump to conclusions.
WRE @ Sep 21st 2008 7:55PM
You're a little defensive and vocal for somebody that "didn't cheat"...
John Perkins @ Sep 21st 2008 8:08PM
@WRE, well I'm vocal because I don't believe they put it in there purposely to catch cheaters. Otherwise, why would they patch it?
And I'm defensive because I don't know what means they're using to determine who used the exploit or not. I wouldn't want my character to be put at a disadvantage due to poor planning or QA on their part. They gave us the pub games to try and get a few extra gold before the game comes out, and to have fun in the universe. Now because of this bug, people may be labeled cheaters who didn't actually take advantage of the exploit.
Tiptup300 @ Sep 21st 2008 10:05PM
I got like 20,000,000 through slots. I really hate how you can't just use your own money. It forces you to take money from the bank, although you can pay back using your money.
FAnchax @ Sep 21st 2008 7:56PM
DONT PATCH!!!
Arnon @ Sep 21st 2008 8:11PM
"9 Gazillion Trillion" lolz
The_Punisher @ Sep 21st 2008 8:17PM
THEY NEVER SAID IT WAS INTENTIONAL!!!
Molyneux said that people would regret becoming rich, but i dare anyone here to find where he said it was intentional. My god, i'm surrounded by morons.

"Just be warned. Molyneux has said that the cheat was no accident and that those who used it to earn their money will be in for a surprise."
Neuromancer @ Sep 21st 2008 8:56PM
IGN: "Molyneux has said that they are well aware of the cheat and that those who used it to earn their money will be in for a surprise."
That doesn't mean it was intentional (if patching the game wasn't a dead giveaway). It just means they were aware of it, after it came out I have no doubt.
Silicon Siren @ Sep 21st 2008 10:56PM
Hrm, I used the exploit a little bit just to test it out. I don't see how the patch is suppose to solve anything, you can simply opt to play it offline and patch it after you've gotten all the gold you want. Or clear the patch later and use the exploit again.
Kuuma @ Sep 21st 2008 11:26PM
Booo..

Molyneux is in for a surprise too. After I read that, I cancelled my preorder because he wasted my time. I'll just get it used from Gamefly.
H3rhc @ Oct 5th 2008 9:12PM
I don't think that they knew about it and if they did y patch it when people have already made millions like me i have over 2.5mill and climbing because there is a way to get rid of any patches that u don't want. go to the memory slot and press (y,xx,left bumper, right bumper,xx) and a message will appear saying somethin click yes and presto u can use the glitch again the only downside is it takes every patch off but makes every thing load faster.
ChangeJD @ Oct 19th 2008 2:34PM
I used that glitch a couple of times....but i made almost a million and a half of my money through keystones....if they do something to take the money away from me for that, I'll be really pissed.
