I don't know , isn't it kinda sad that the 360s rise is 2600% . I know it a good thing for MS , but for such a rise , sales must have been complete crap before ....

Again: Beating Wii doesn't matter to Microsoft, they're accumulating brand recognition, which is all they really care about.

Good job MS...build up that brand image.

Then next gen it will truly blow away the competition...especially the next playstation.

Things could be changing for good because it seems like Microsoft finally found out how to sell in Japan. All they have to do is pump out one mediocre JRPG after another and they'll keep selling. Now..how it took them 8 years to figure that out is beyond me. I could have told them that strategy in a day.

Now the trick is to actually keep some supply coming in so they can do it for more than a week. But well done nonetheless.

AzureKnight, you actually think being a MS fanboy is so much better than being a Sony one?

I wonder where you where when the PS1 and PS2 were doing so good. Its a shame that Sony had to fire a massively large bullet in its leg with the PS3 though.

I wonder how things would have turned out if Sony released the PS3 with games on DVDs for $400 and retailed an SKU that could play Blu-Ray movies for $500/600, that would have been far better.

You've never really said why you hate Sony so much? My guess is your pissed at that white PSP billboard ad back in 2005 but I dunno what goes on in your head.

Its hilarious you think there's so many Sony fanboys here when there aren't. You could pick better places to asstroll.

Yeah, Vesperia is getting quite decent reviews across the board. The thing is, JPRGs for the most part have always gotten "mediocre" scores with a few exceptions here and there. Tastes in Japan are quite different, and JRPGs that get 70s in the USA, might actually be close to a perfect 10 in their eyes.

AND your point is tmac?

Did MS create the ps2?

NO.

Now is the 360 beating the original xbox? Pretty damn sure it is...

So if you want to compare then compare the right things you arrogant ahole.

Wii to Gamecube
360 to Original xbox
ps2 to psTRIPLE

Clearly the playstation is doing the worse in that situation...

That my friends is the biggest "covering my ass" statement I've ever seen someone do. All you do is trash sony and say how much the 360 is better, so when I trap you in a corner you say that. Well ok, I'll play your game.

*clears throat* Alright, well besides these couple recent weeks the ps3 has also outsold the 360 by an even larger margin. So don't gloat too much over 1 week.

One last point...

Okay tmac since your sony fanboy self wants to bring up the normal sales every month.

Yes the ps3 beats the 360 most of the time in Japan. But what are the numbers?

If I remember correctly it's usually the ps3 selling around 9000 units or so while the 360 sells about 2,500 if MS is lucky.

Alright so assuming you agree with that premise the ps3 is beating the 360 by about 6,500. That's. I don't know how you can call that spectacular when sony's home is Japan just like the Wii. Yet the Wii is clearly beating that ass up when it comes to sales by consistently selling around 25,000 units each month.

If the ps3 were selling in those levels while the 360 lagged far behind at 2,000 I'd care.

But as it is the ps3 is barely beating it's long abandoned brother and that is quite pathetic.

Alright I'll try to explain it so even you can understand. When you agree with someone that it's pathetic that the ps3 is barely outselling the ps2, then is it not MORE pathetic that for every week except 2 or 3 that a next-gen system (specially the one you support so much, it just adds to the irony) is getting beat down by the ps2? That's why I said, don't gloat too much over a week.

Sony is still riding on the PS2's success, while wanting the PS3 to flourish at the same time. Unfortunately, they can't have it both ways. Nintendo and Microsoft dropped support on their old consoles for the most part when their new systems rolled out. But they didn't have much of a choice, though. That's not Sony's only problem, but it's a big part of it.

No it's not since the 360 is at all related to the ps2. As in the ps3 should be slamming the ps2 because they're both from sony and sony should is offering a product that should be a big enough evolution in the playstation line that it sells significantly better than the previous model.

So no it's not pathetic for the 360 at all no matter how it's doing compared to the ps2. Sorry but I just don't see your pov on that. I think you're just looking as usual to start a fight like the racist pig ninja.

Goodnight everyone else.

Ok I gotta wrap this up fast here cause I'm losing too much brain cells.

First, I'm not trying to turn this into a fanboy war unlike you. I'm happy that the 360 did good this week, even though it's only because of another JRPG (I'm criticizing the japanese and their taste here, NOT the 360)

Second, you're confusing the ps2 with the xbox 1. The ps2 is still supported by a large number of companies, specially in Japan.

Third, when the weekly sales in Japan top out at around 30k for consoles then yes regularly beating another system by 7-8k a week is a decent number not including the fact that the PS3 is more expensive than the 360 and has almost no rpg's for the japanese to play.

This is all good for MS and everything but they cannot just rely on RPGs in Japan. Yes Japan is the land where the RPG started and they love their RPGs but to me the 360 has a whole LOT MORE to offer in terms of gaming and MS needs to push that while selling their RPG titles.

Stuff like Viva Pinata, Gears of war, B&K could sell well if marketed right...

They've been buying the same games for over a decade now and no one's been able to really pry them off of their jrpgs with any noticeable or long term success. That was the main reason why xbox has never done well.

Notice how these few weeks where they get a large spike it's always on a week of another JRPG. Last time was that Tales game, and this time it was Infinite Undiscovery. No one's ever going to get them into shooters and wrpgs.

That's foolishness Japan people like RPGs and that's about it. I hate to stereotype, but this proves it throw a RPG at the Japanese people ESPECIALLY A SE one and they'll run out and buy it in droves. Maybe a Viva Pinata or a Banjo can do something, but noway Gears can sell there.

I hate stereotypes too for the most part but they do have some truth to them.

MS just has to get a big presence there and maybe create a game that isn't specifically an RPG but has elements of an JRPG that will attract Japanese people to the 360.

A shooter focusing on Asian matters? I know it sounds corny but they could create some sorta epic story that is truly authetic to the region that might attract Japanese people to buy it.

Customizations, ete. Side quests. Good online....

Just throwing it out there. Anyways MS never expected to do well in Japan but they're still trying hard which I definitely respect them for.

The Japanese tend to like games, from what I can tell, that aren't as competitive or have a snappy, pick up and play gameplay element to them.
But western games tend to be competition-based and require twitch reflexes in a lot of cases and constantly having to adapt those reflexes as you progress in the games.

Hence, a game like Street Fighter can be really popular in Japan, but a shooter won't be. So it's bull headed to say that the Japanese only like JRPGs, when the reality is that western game design fundamentals just don't appeal to them, much like how a lot of western gamers find JRPGs (or scenario/dating sims) to be too slow and plodding.
Someone with enough vision could probably easily popularize a genre like third person shooters in Japan, but the end result would be a very different shooter compared to what is considered the norm. Sort of like how Pikmin is an RTS game at it's core.

Platformers to me seem like they would be and are a good hybrid to appeal to the two camps, but platformers are all but dead (except this year, where we have at least 6 good platformers coming out...go figure)

samfish is right, the cultural values there are simply different, not 'weird'. Just as most people here in the west would find anime silly, they find the steroid abusing gruff men of most shooters and action games here to be weird. I agree with AzureKnight on that, it's not the genre of the game, it's the way it's designed and the features of the story.

..for example, if CoD4 was ridiculous and everyone had giant spiky hair, it'd be a blockbuster
