Official PlayStation Magazine Australia sat down with two Square Enix heavy-hitters, Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto, to discuss what's up with the 13th Final Fantasy. Kitase gave an update on the development progress stating that several aspects of Final Fantasy XIII are now nearly done. "The scenario is pretty much complete and the artistic side is about 80% complete," said Kitase. While that's a lot of work already through the fire, there's still a few things left to do and don't forget the good old spit-shine polish.
Being a PlayStation mag, the publication also naturally asked the duo how the shift to a multiplatform release would affect FFXIII's quality. Kitase was quick to reiterate what Yoichi Wada had been saying since E3: "...the team is looking to specialize it for the PS3 so that the game will be maximized [for that console], and then they will port it over to the 360 and utilize the capabilities of that console." That means no loss of quality.

Just because its going to the 360 as well? So you're going to miss out on a great game just because you're a retarded fanboy. Awesome.

I call it "damage control". They know that if they openly said "the game will be dumbed down to meet 360 standards" people would rage everywhere, so they just pull out some bs to please the masses.

It just means that the port will be on three to four DVDs for the 360, more than likely, with no loss in actual graphic quality. It's a PS3 to 360 port, rather than the other way around. They will both be about the same, and I doubt anyone would be able to tell a huge difference between the two.

But im guessing they are only using 2 out of 8 processors the ps3 have so they can port it to the 360...thats what lazy devs do

Square can be accused of a number of things, being lazy devs isn't one of them.

Maybe I just misread...
Did you actually mean that the PS3 version won't suffer, because they had to "dumb it down" to work on the 360's hardware?

I was wondering the same thing. On another note, does anyone know what the battle system in ff13 is going to be? I know Versus is going to use a battle system similar to KH/FF7CC but i dont know anything about this one.

They haven't even started working on the 360 version. They said at a press conference that once the PS3 version is complete they would port to 360. I just hope that they don't delay it another year while they try to figure out how to port it.

I'm still mad at square for making the states wait until they finish porting it over. All the while they no issue on releasing Last Remnant for the box about a year ahead of the PS3 version due to complications with the epic engine. I understand releasing multiplatform to maximize profits but if the damn game is done why not at least give us some timed exclusivity?!

I can't wait for this one!

Yes utilize the 360 when that time comes. which means either 5-8 discs, or cutting a ton of stuff out to make it at least 1-3.

As long as I am able to play it before 2010 and I fall in love with the graphics and looks of the spells and summons, I will be happy.

I have no doubt that the 'quality' of the game won't be affected, but that doesn't mean the game will be as visually stunning on the 360 port as the PS3 version. Remember that tidbit about 360 not being able to reach 1080p? And that the HD quality isn't even on par because of how it functions through the 360?
Face the facts, its going to be more than one disc. Its not the end of the world though.

Final Fantasy is linear enough to work with multiple discs. It is open ended games like Grand Theft that cant run multiple disc.
And yes, the 360 has to upscale to 1080i/p (I forget which) and the PS3 can produce those graphics straight up. And with a bit of clever coding, they can get that at 60fps too.

1. you haven't played either to judge
2. action RPGs and console RPGs shouldn't be compared (wtf does that even mean? there are action RPGs on consoles y'know!)
3.(yes a 3rd) the last action FF game wasn't so hot, so please reserve some of that hype.

Ithought they meant no loss of quality for the ps3 version and i agree, why not us ps3 owners some timed exclusivity. Someone else already put that Last Remnant was a timed exclusive on 360. But anyways ps3 is OBVIOUSLY more powerful than the 360 take Heavy Rain for example
Posted: Sep 22nd 2008 3:30PM (Unverified) said
i like the look of Heavy Rain.
i think limiting the area and amount of action on screen creates more focus on Ai and detailed graphics. I think a game like that is certainly possible on a 360.

Oh cool, let's wait another year then before US/Europe gets their version, because they want to wait for the XB360 port before releasing it...gj gj...

Sure, the game wont be dumbed down for matching its 360 port, and I already knew it way before Kitase's statement. My dear friend, the Easter Bunny, told me so.
This is an subject that makes me so angry about! I love FF series, I'm playing them since ps1 Era, and FFXIII was the main reason I chose the ps3 over the 360. So, no matter how excited I am for this game to come out, I'll always see it as an SE betrayal, and nothing that anyone could say will make me believe that this game is exactly the same it would be if it was still an ps3 exclusive.

It's ok rich. Sometimes people have to compencate their overall great but obviously withering system with witty comments about how things are taken out of content. I just can't wait untill he whips something up from his smoldering cauldron on a console and manufactures it into a timely comment at my expence. Your go.

sure they won't have to dumb it down for 360.... but that's because the once great and now lazy jerks at square probably won't push the ps3 to its limits with the game. if they don't squeeze every last bit of power out of the ps3 (like they usually do with whatever platform they develop for) then the 360 version won't need to be dumbed down in relation to the ps3 version, because the ps3 version won't be what it could have been.
i agree with dmd and whoever else feels betrayed by square. a lot of people spent a lot of money on a more powerful system so we could play better games. not so companies like square could get lazy and use multiplatform development as an excuse for making sub-par games.
oh well, at least we still get little big planet, resistance 2, killzone 2, infamous and god of war 3. but i swear if kingdom hearts 3 goes multiplatform i will swim to japan and take down square myself

The originally said they were going to take full advantage of the PS3 hardware and then they said the Xbox 360 version was going to be identical. That doesn't make any sense.

you can make a game look identical and maximize both system's hardware to achieve that goal.
here's the thing: despite what this generation has led us to believe, both PS3 and 360 are identical when it comes to games. and both are obsolete to what computers are capable of.
