The ability to download movies and TV shows via your game console definitely has its advantages. Like, for instance, never having to leave your couch. Of course, as so many modern conveniences are apt to, it's not without disadvantages. In the case of PS3's video store, one of them is the fact that, should you want to free up HDD space by deleting a video and then attempt to download it again later, you'll quickly find yourself on the phone with a Sony customer service representative. (Plus, you might actually have to get up to call them – ouch!)
Oh, the rep will happily flip a switch somewhere enabling you to re-download the video in question ... but only once. Make the same mistake twice and you're stuck. In this case, whether you actually "own" what you've paid for is more than a little fuzzy.
Of course, you could take advantage of one of the PS3's nicer features and simply install a larger off-the-shelf hard disk by yourself. And, since Sony's been so kind as to provide a PS3 Backup Utility for migrating your data, those videos will transfer right over ... right? Not so fast. According to the utility's documentation, purchased and rented PSN video store content may not play following the transfer process. In this case, you'd better hope you haven't used that one-off "lifeline" call to customer service yet.

this is a bad move by sony, but im sure it wasnt by their choice.
oh well i dont rent or buy movies on PSN so honestly i dont care, but DRM sucks when abused.
CD's try to abuse it, SPORE trys, etc. etc.

With all this damned pesky DRM, I can't give up physical media entirely and even that is plaugued with it. :(

Mila Kunis is SO hot that I actually have watched American Psycho II twice, in full... and I'm not proud to say that.

I'm pretty sure Apple's iTunes download policy is very similar to this. Only if your computer catches fire and your entire music library disappears can you beg and plead to re-download your purchased music. This is nothing new and with the backup utility and free-range for hard drive swaps I fail to see the issue here.

Wow, I can't believe the number of morons who think ANY company would allow movie downloads to any console..
To sell movies online, you HAVE to have DRM it's as simple as that. Everyone has it, Microsoft included.
How is this any different to how you lose all your downloaded games on XBox, when your console gets replaced due to RROD? Answer: it's not...
Dumb trailer-park Xbox owners....

I'd considering buying a movie off the PSN. Thanks for the heads-up. I would have never dreamed of this. Yet another instance where, despite being year(s) later to the game, Sony is WAY behind MS yet again. I sometimes wonder if they are simply trying to fail. If so, they're doing a pretty good job.

I'll be honest that SUCKS.....just another reason for me NOT to purchase anything from the PSN Video Store I guess.
I've browsed but found no reason to purchase anything as there is no real exclusive content there that I've noticed worth purchasing vs. XBL Video Marketplace.
I guess if PS3 was your only choice that'd be different......

Microsoft lets you download them as many times as necessary and transfer the licenses to any console also. Sony needs to get their heads out of their butts.

And I had just been considering getting something from the PSN store too... I didn't 'cause I think most everything is too expensive when I already have Netflix, but this seals the deal! I just assumed it would be as free and open as PSN games are (Sony encourages people to share games - can't beat that!) But not being able to redownload and also not being able to backup! Wow... just wow... I'll stick with Netflix, at least I know what I'm getting there are just rentals!
