Spore gets its first patch
If any sort of parallel can be drawn between Spore and the creatures you foster into civilization within its digital confines, then we've reached a very proud moment. After it emerged from the development seas, wobbling on two spindly legs, Spore has now gone through its first evolution, thanks to a recently released patch that should help the fledgling game walk just a bit straighter.
There's a bevy of changes, from a difficulty increase in the game's first half and a decrease of random attacks on your home planet during the Space stage. Read all about Spore's evolutionary step right here. The patch is available via BigDownload.

Old news is old.
Maybe you should mention, that the patch transformed a nearly bug free game to a pile of shit for many people.

My friend shares your sentiments. He crashes everytime he tries to get into the atmosphere of planets. So he's screwed until they fix it.

Yeah, same for me...
Plus animations often kind of "lag", and sounds don't play properly. Before the patch everything worked just fine.

I was lucky enough to get the game-killing "crashing every time I leave my homeworld" bug before the patch even came out... and the patch does nothing to fix it. Hell even a precious reinstall does nothing to fix it...
I'm actually one of the apparent few people that like spore but now it looks like its gonna be unplayable for me for a long while... I guess its back to tf2 with me >_>
Basically, yeah, disappointing patch for me, though it looks like it fixes a lot of parts of the game i found annoying, especially the frequency of attacks on your homeword in the space stage

Sadly, nothing to remove the DRM though.
AwesomeTown @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:25AM
Awww. Spore looks so cute with its first patch.

styleFilter -nextgen is pretty funny.

Thank god for the decrease on annoying as hell alarms.
Too bad I probably won't go back to play it in a long time.

I did, and it was a lot more enjoyable for me. It also seem the more you antagonize an enemy, the more they attack which is a good thing is that's what they were after. Keep out of their space and they ignore you.

Well I personally hope this patch fixes my problems. I stopped playing spore after 4 days because it would crash on me about every 90 minutes of playtime. Hopefully it's better now.
RanWitScissorz @ Sep 22nd 2008 12:05PM
I stopped after 4 hours because it wasn't entertaining.
Jon2309 @ Sep 22nd 2008 1:38PM
Normally I wouldn't agree with someone with an abbriviated name like RanWitScissorz, but in this case, I unfortunately do.
BigD145 @ Sep 22nd 2008 12:50PM
Difficulty changes don't apply to the "Hard" setting and you get no choice on whether or not to implement any and all changes..
deaftly @ Sep 22nd 2008 1:18PM
Is this the patch that makes the game good?
johnny_y @ Sep 22nd 2008 2:16PM
Everything seemed a tad perfect for mac users. We get it the same day, we dont have to suffer the EA download manager, everything seemed rosey....
Seems our shafting starts here. No patch but a message asking us to check back "soon"...
spyker @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:25PM
Crap... another one of EA's "Let's patch the PC version and let the Mac users wait a few monts!" patches.
Will @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:54PM
You're lucky the game was released for Mac at all.
spyker @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:05PM
Haha, I don't really care. It just saves the boot camp booting time ;).
gamer4250 @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:40AM
Silly Mac users, everybody knows there's no such thing as true Mac gaming. That's why your silly operating systems are inferior to windows. Even Apple realizes that, after all they DO seem very excited that their computer can run Windows. Except you can't upgrade them and they're 3x the price.
ebrainer1 @ Sep 24th 2008 4:03PM
why would you need to upgrade a mac? My granddad uses an 8 year old iMac for video editing. When was the last time you saw even a 4 year old PC do anything but crash?
