Xbox 360 hits 6 million in Europe
"Self-defence!" it'll claim, noting how people simply wouldn't "stop pressing my buttons." Also, the European Xbox 360 can talk. No wonder it's managed to "hit" 6 million people, a figure which Microsoft's Chris Lewis, Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA and apparent violence fetishist, is "very excited" by.
"We're very excited that more consumers in Europe are joining the ever-growing Xbox 360 community," Lewis said. "We're now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of €179/£129.99, and consumers have clearly responded to that offering." He went on to promise that a "launch-level" advertising campaign would, uh, launch in the region next week, promoting titles like "Lips, Scene It?; You're In The Movies and Fable 2."
Yes, he really did put Fable 2 at the very end of the list.

mostly in uk probably, everyone i know has 360's, hardly any ps3's in the uk
Ranelar @ Sep 22nd 2008 6:54PM
I heard that everyone Antcep knows in the UK has a 360, so that must mean that the majority of those European sales are coming from there.
Fenix @ Sep 22nd 2008 6:56PM
Makes sense.
ANTCEP @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:01PM
yup, i know every European
Fenix @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:05PM
You mean UKean :P
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:19PM
Strange comment, maybe it is my age but i don't know that many people with 360's.
I know a few, also know a few ps3 heads too..
i think this may be a case for sherlock holmes...
WhoMe @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:47PM
It's the reverse over here.
Most people have a PS3, some have a 360.
Those that are still waiting to buy one are waiting on a PS3.
Inect @ Sep 22nd 2008 10:02PM
"yup, i know every European"
He's not from the UK... Gasp...
Emophia @ Sep 23rd 2008 2:49AM
I live in the UK.
Last Year or so, most people I know had a 360.
Now, most people I know have a PS3.
But pretty much everyone I know has a Wii.
deaftly @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:29AM
Kelly Clarkson?
Sora @ Sep 22nd 2008 6:53PM
"Yes, he really did put Fable 2 at the very end of the list."
Best for last, I always say. Except when the best ISN'T at the end...But in this case, it is.
SneezyPorcupine @ Sep 22nd 2008 6:57PM
So what is the 360's world wide sales now anyways?
It should be very interesting to see the sales for coming weeks, given the 360's price drop.
As far as their advertising campaign goes, I don't think Scene It? is the game to promote the 360 with...but its better than nothing.
I was on a European tour for a month over the summer and I did not see a single 360 advertisement, nor did I see any in electronic stores that I visited. PS3s were everywhere tho.
kinshadow @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:17PM
Scene It is actually a really good game for parties. Seeing as how Sony is pushing Sing Star and the like in the EU, it makes sense MS would push the party games first.
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:08PM

Man the game that should really put the 360 at the top of the hill in Europe will be Forza 3 if the rumor of 100 trax(Good Lord) and over 400 cars is true...Especially if they use that Project Gotham Racing engine
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:19AM
the PGR4 engine was originally Forza's. Also, Turn 10 is making the next PGR, so unless they have a large staff, you might have to wait a bit on Forza 3.
Hala Madrid!! (PSWii60 Defense Force) @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:13PM
Why not promote FIFA09 or PES09?
You're In The Movies? WTF?
I demand FIFA09 and PES09!
brian @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:35PM
i think you mean POS09
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:23AM
It might be that they are holding off on PES and FIFA so they can promote them along with the release of their re-designed controller.
Those news bits might get lost in all the promotions they are doing now.
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:26AM
oh yea, PES > FIFA
ExMcloud @ Sep 22nd 2008 7:13PM
what the hell happened to my avatar?
il_duce620 @ Sep 22nd 2008 8:46PM
I realize that they translate your Afrikaans to English each week for the podcast, Ludwig, but it's "self-defense"... (love ya, buddy!)

Kudos, M$!
Popeye9000 @ Sep 22nd 2008 10:07PM
Where I live in the US, PS3's are almost non-existent and almost considered some sort of a joke by the gamer community. Everyone I know has a Xbox 360.
Gavin @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:50AM
This is probably an unfair question, but what is the 360's true ownership rate? Are double sales (i.e. RROD out of warentee) counted/subtracted?
just curious
Metal_Gear @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:09AM
They are counted, regardless of what any fanboy cries. To Microsoft, they were sold, if they break and cant be used anymore, that doesn't matter, someone bought it origionally.
I am sure Sony and Nintendo also cound the broken consoles but... well, >1% is a lot different than 33% :|
B-Typo @ Sep 24th 2008 6:08PM
I still don't know very many that own a PS3, however, I don't live in Europe. And best value? Come on, Xbox live is 40 dollars a year, and the 360 breaks down within 6 months of purchasing it.
murph @ Oct 29th 2008 1:35PM
My 360 is almost four years old, has withstood being knocked over by myself and my inebriated friends, being left on literally for weeks at a time, and believe it or not, having water accidentally spilled inside the casing. So everybody who complains about the 360's quality is doing something horribly wrong if mine still works after what it's been through.
and 40 bucks a year for live is chump change, especially considering it blows the other live services out of the water.
