Fracture video walkthrough shows new locales, destruction thereof
When LucasArts production assistant Vicki Miller says she's going to walk you through some new areas of Fracture – the action game banking on its geo-deformation being wicked cool – you watch. Not because she's an industry luminary or anything ... she's just so darn nice.
Said video walkthrough takes viewers to the desert southwest and Washington, D.C. What ensues is a bunch of frantic shooting and upheaval of earth, yet, somehow, Miller's soothing voice-over makes it all seem like everything's going to be just fine. Her hypnotic suggestion alone won't sell the game, however; you should try out the recently released demo to see if the game's ker-azy gameplay gimmicks are your thing.

Wow, that girl is overly excited for this game. The weapons don't seem intriguing and game play doesn't look fun. I feel bad for her if she really feels the way she states she does
antsmarching @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:46PM
Yeah. I would have expected someone who poured a couple years time and effort into a video game say, "this game is meh"
Levi @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:13PM
Demo didn't excite me unfortunately
Neat idea, but not enough to set it apart from normal 3rd person action games
LordChimp @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:15PM
I enjoyed the demo. Won't buy it since it's coming out at a terrible time.
Fenix @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:34PM
CAN NOT agree with you more. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed playing through it but man, just a crazy holiday schedule to be competing in. =/ I'm renting it for sho tho. :)

yea i dont understand why everyone is putting it down so much. the only thing i didnt enjoy about the game where the visuals and the voice acting. the gameplay seemed solid though and the terrain changing thing was something different. i dont want the same exact experience in every game i play. this is something i may end up picking up after the holidays cause to echo everyone else, they picked a terrible time to release this game.
343 Guilty Fart @ Sep 24th 2008 1:33PM
Completely agree as well. This might have been a fun game to pass the summer months by, but there's just too much AAA content coming out for this game to effectively compete. I kinda feel sorry for it.
elmersglue @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:31PM
i'd hit it
AoE @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:42PM
Eugh demo was so bad! I guess it looked okay, and controls were smooth enough; but wow what a forced idea the whole ground deformation thing is... especially since it only works in certain pre-designated spots and can only raise/lower terrain in very specific, and limited ways. A very contrived-feeling addon to try to save an otherwise extremely generic 3rd person shooter from being what it is. At least, that was my impression from the demo.
AoE @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:52PM
um, i didn't mean that as a reply to elmersglue's post, sorry dude.
Hala Madrid!! (PSWii60 Defense Force) @ Sep 23rd 2008 9:53PM
MUST RENT THIS!!
SecondTomorrow @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:10PM
You're the only one..
Terrain deformation is boring. I want a game where every single thing in the world can be destroyed no matter what. Like the original Red Faction only to the peak of anything you can do to your liking. I've never been satisfied with any games environment destruction so far.
i rike chirri dawgs @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:13PM
game wants to be red faction 2.5 so bad,
T3kNi9e @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:28PM
I don't feel an urge to even try this game. It looks decent but nothing people will be talking about much after the release, it looks like a Unreal Tournament 3 in third person and obviously terrain altering weapons which IMO isn't as cool as people make it seem.
Vcize @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:59PM
The demo was a ton of fun. This could have been a sleeper hit if it were released over the summer.
Unfortunately though, holiday season is way overbooked this year. I'll think about picking this one up sometime towards the middle of next year when I've finally started to make a dent in the plethora of games coming out the next few months.
Startlingline117 @ Sep 23rd 2008 11:04PM
Doesn't look like anything that particularly stands out from the rest. The ability to break things apart especially the environment seems neat, but I can't see dropping $60 on it right now, especially with the flux of games in the next two months, and catching up on a number of great PC titles i've missed out in the past few years.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Sep 24th 2008 5:45AM
I just like how the video editing feels like it's cutting her in her monologue praise of the game. Otherwise, she just seems to be a token poster girl picked from the team by marketing.
MegaWatts @ Sep 24th 2008 7:17AM
I tried the demo and well I stopped the demo half way through and deleted it from the drive. Demo was boring. The idea of raising and lowering land sounds good until you try it. Boring game mechanic. Too bad I was looking forward to it.
I sure hope the other games being released this fall are not as boring as this. It will be a sad christmas if it is. =(
Internally the developers must know its a stinker though. Joystiq knew it would be boring also.

Big deal, Excite had ground transformation, and that was a launch game for the Wii...
(Yes, I'm being silly.)
CJLopez @ Sep 24th 2008 11:50AM
Man, this game screams "Gears of War" everywhere

*sigh*
only around 1% of people actually post on comment sections or forums, and of that 1% a HUGE percentage (dont remember that percentage except it is high) only post to share criticisms.
This is why when you read comment threads, it seems like everyone is jumping on a negative bandwagon.
