NPD: Top 5 best-selling PS3 games from January to August 08

i would have loved to see mgs4 as no. 1

no suprises here.... blah....

I am not really suprised except I would've thought that Metal Gear Solid 4 would've been number 1. But seeing GTAIV at the top really isn't that huge of a suprise. Madden is a big game so I am not suprised to see it up there. Only one that suprises me a bit is Call of Duty 4.

Surprise is to see GTA IV in nr 1, because to me MGS4 is the game to the nr 1!

Not a surprise to me. I only own 4 games, and 3 of them made that list. I'm sure if NHL '09 has been out all year, that too would have made the list. So somewhere in that list of best sellers is my 60 bucks

I was taken by surprise by COD4. Sooo much fun, even though I don't play that well. Very unexpected to me. In contrast, I thought that GTA4 was going to be unbelievable, but I've yet to really go online with the game and judging from reader reviews, it has fared poorly in that regard despite the great reviews from all the gaming websites (which makes those reviews suspect).

Looking forward to some dbl XP before the promotion runs out on Thursday for COD4.

Own them all with the exception of GTA4..

When the full GT5 comes out, I expect it to be at the top of the sales for the year,

I own all these games....I feel like such a sheep right now.

Maybe I should branch out a bit with my taste in games.....Anyone know if Rapala Fishing Frenzy is worth picking up, or maybe Vampire Rain: Altered Species??? :P

its not really that surprising since GTA4 was and exclusive before so people though it was going to be good but only did ok i guess and all the others are games you usually hear people talking about, and plus in a while or by next month or something this list will be way different, with all the new releases coming out

well i am kinda disappointed that GTA IV got 1st then MGS4, but then again look at what GTA IV sold .. but then again a figure was announced for a week of sales on GTA IV and that was for both systems .. so who knows.

what would surprise me would be if uncharted sold alot from the day of the trophy patch or maybe greatest hits games like Resistance or Warhawk sold alot of copies for a cheap price. but i'm glad MGS4 made 2nd

GTAIV numbers are probably higher, because it's been out longer. I don't know, maybe i just want to face the fact it beat MGS4 @__@

I have actually played Call of Duty 4 and it was my first game on the PS3. I am not an FPS fan but I would more then agree that the controls are perfect for an FPS. I am just suprised only because I would think since its an older game it still wouldn't be in the top list. It does deserve to be up there though.

well, i for one loved GTAIV and don't really understand the hate it gets. But I guess I didn't like the goofier aspects of GTA:SA, and it seems like I'm the only one. My only real complaint is that Rockstar wasn't able to (financially) make it exclusive (and thereby optimize for PS3 and blu-ray.)

if console bundle sales were included, i'm pretty sure mgs4 would have been top. gt5:p is a surprise though especially considering the ps store sales weren't included.

The hard copy of GT5 really sold that well, despite it being a larger installation? Impressive. I would like to see that chart including digitally-distributed titles, because that's the way I bought GT5.

LBP will finish the year on top. Does anyone know numbers for GT5P?

I doubt very much that a platformer is going to outsell GTA IV. I think LBP will be a good selling game but you guys are biting into the hype that this game is going to revelutionize gaming and sell PS3's. All I can think of is the Spore hype and how that was going to be the top game for the year for PC and so far has been an above average but not a great game.

GTAIV is a good time waster, I don't even do any missions, I just like doing stuff on it that I can't do in real life, lol. MGS4 sucked, most war games are pretty much the same things, racing games are usually nothing but running in circles...and who in the hell plays sports games? If you wanna play a sport, actually play it rather than sitting down with a controller and posing as a national sports celebrity. The real games are set to some out 2009, I think. I think that 2009 will be the big year for the PS3. PS3 is advanced and it's taking developers a little while to get used to a piece of equipment that is awesomely advanced for it's time. I actually got a PS3 for Final Fantasy Versus XII. I'll get FFXIII, but it saddens me that it's being released on the XBox 360 as well. Oh well, all they're doing with the 360 is using online funds to work on Versus XIII (which is WAY more kickass anyway) lol.

1. Grand Theft Auto IV - Fun to play when bored and fun to do things you can't normaly do in a well populated city. Just like the rest of the Grand Theft Auto games.

2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - A big disappointment in hype (again), and why play as an old man snake? Funnest thing I did on the game was crawl on my belly and get shot.

3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - A war game...again

4. Madden NFL 09 - If you want to be a lazy son of a bitch and play sports, this is your game! Play football and down some beer and a bag of chips at the same time.

5. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - Yay, driving in circles! But this time, it's in HIGH DEFINITION!!! =D

Really, this year wasn't very big for the PS3. 2009 will the their year, have you seen some of the line up? Little Big Planet was the start of the next year, too, in my opinion. I bought a PS3 for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts III. I think right now, PlayStation is just running through some experimental projects for the real stuff. Get ready for 2009!! =D
