Remember in 1996 when the Xbox 360 exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction was announced. We may have the date wrong but it was a long time ago, that we know for sure. Just when we were giving up home on Sam's return a report by Videogaming247 indicates that Conviction, which was pushed into 2009, has undergone a handful of changes.
According to the site an Ubisoft community development manager said Conviction is "certainly not canned," but that "the gameplay has evolved a lot" and "the visual direction is simply much better." Considering Sam has been dark since his Xbox 360 debut in October 2006 we'd hope the title was experiencing a substantial upgrade to compete with other high-profile stealth action games that will not be named.
We'd also like to think that Sam has returned to his sneaky Third Echelon roots instead of going all "emo" on us but only Tom Clancy knows for sure. Sadly, a name cannot speak and the artist formerly known as Tom Clancy doesn't make the rules anymore -- you know, since he sold his moniker.

I hated the first gameplay videos where they totted the game as "Yeah, it's not your dad's Splinter Cell. Now it is Hitman, with Agent 47 fresh off his Myspace page."
Seriously Ubisoft, I want Splinter Cell. Not emo, guyliner Jason Bourne. Sam Fisher was once a badass... now he looks like some sad pathetic old man with a xanga account that he uses to express his feelings in the form of poorly written vulgar poetry.

I don't know, I didn't really have a problem with the new look for Sam Fisher nor did I see it as being particularly "emo".

It was announced in 1996!?!?
lol, time flies when you are waiting for over a decade for a game.

It Seems UBI does not consider this as a important title. They do not put as much behind SC as other titles. Assassin's Creed which I did not like very much and others. THis game is so in the background it is upsetting. I have see SCCT and SCDA suffer many delays. This game is potentially one of the best for my style of gaming using cunning and speed not just BLAM BLAM BLAM! FPS.
The multiplayer is still my favorite of any game. All I wanted in the last SC was same gameplay better graphics and features. Instead in multiplayer all the gadgets are gone except 4 for spy and 1 for merc (one of those is a syringe which used to be all over the map as a first aid box). The also added the drones for merc. To me all people want to do is break necks and not hack. This makes it into a direction action game. Which is fine but leaves guys like me wanting more.
The true beauty of this game is the SPY vs MERC Dynamic. This never gets boring. I hope that they can go back to what it once was when it was on the tops of the XBL charts right under Halo. Untill then I will be hanging out at blackwing.

Yeah that's the thing about that game online. People got too good, too fast. It will never be behind halo because it doesn't have the accessibility of halo.
It was fun though and I have played it. Love splinter cell. I'm kind of glad it's been delayed since there's too many good games coming out soon anyways.

I miss the spy vs merc gameplay of Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. It was destroyed in Double Agent. Sadly, they can bring it back.
It was the most innovative online gameplay of it's time and still is. As a matter of fact, I just got a 360 and guess what game I can't wait to play on it?
Chaos Theory's online multiplayer.

Portorikan, I have to agree with you. the alternative of playing the old SC is that you lose a lot of features like XBL and the graphics. I can say with out a doubt that I would Pay to have an updated version of SC with the old gameplay for multiplayer. The Campaign mode is optional.

Jesus, if this game HAD been announced in 1996, no one would've given a crap about the "visual design" (ie, Fisher not looking cool enough). These days, anything that can even be REMOTELY linked to emo (even coincidently, as in this case) must be systematically avoided or extinguished. I couldn't care less about the Sam Fisher "look" for this particular game, what I'm interested in is the gameplay, oddly enough.
