Dashboard ad: New Xbox Experience coming in November [update]

As good as Microsoft may be at keeping secrets, the irascible dashboard just can't seem to keep its e-mouth shut. Reader Dusty just learned this first hand when a dashboard ad for an upcoming Rock Band 2 event proclaimed "Check out the New Xbox Experience coming in November!"

Now, the common man would think "Hey, I bet the New Xbox Experience is coming in November." But we savvy bloggers have learned that, often as not, the dashboard is just making crap up. We'll do a bit of digging and see what we can find.

[Update: Just got this from Microsoft: We're happy to see the excitement around the New Xbox Experience, but we haven't announced a specific release date. The New Xbox Experience will be released before the end of the year, and we will have more details soon!]

Rock Band 2 is exclusive to Xbox 360? Microsoft really like spreading bullshit. It'll be on most platforms before the year is out.

It says available NOW exclusively on Xbox 360. There is nothing wrong with that statement. It is a timed exclusive.

Doesn't say its exclusive. It says its exclusive NOW, which is technically true. Its a special brand of bullshit.

I think you left out a keyword that the AD mentions: NOW. I believe the 360 is the only console that has Rock Band 2 out right now. So it is limited "exclusivity."

At least, I didn't think it was out for other consoles yet.

Um, it says it's exclusively "Available Now", which is true. It won't be on any other system for almost a month.

Pardon me kind Sir but I believe you are mistaken. The sign clearly states, "Available now exclusively."

Speaking of which, you know what leaves me curious? If Downey Jr. played Alpha Chino, all the blacks would start chanting "Racism","Blackface","Stereotypes"!

Yet it's perfectly fine(as in we don't hear any complains about stereotyping etc.) with them if a black actor and/or Soulja Boy acts like that.

Sorry for that rant that's most likely going to start some racial debate but I'm allergic to obnoxious black accents and Alpha really got on my nerves when watching this movie.

Believe me Alpha Chino was 100 times more tolerable than Soulja douche.

I thought this was coming out on Microsoft's re-launch event thing tomorrow Sept 25th...

Nope. Major Nelson already announced a service outage next week to prepary for the update, but made it clear the update isn't coming out yet.

That was a completely unsubstantiated rumor posted by a random person on a forum. Of course a few blogs took it and ran with it.

I was reading through some of the comments that were posted under the avatar video on majornelson.com and one really made sense. In the latest MN podcast, they state that avatars will be integrated into Scene It! Box Office Smash. The game is due out in October (28th apparently). So perhaps it will be out mid-to-late next month! That would put it inline with a lot of peoples hopes of being able to install GoW2 to the hard drive (SWEEEET!). I doubt it will be after (probably) their biggest release of the season.

Hasn't MS been touting a Nov launch for the NXE since E3? Perhaps my love of fine liquor has done bad things to the brain, but I'd swear I had heard that the dash update was going to have a Nov release several times already.

The old dashboard is lying. It doesn't want to go.

I bet the new Dash launches on November 22nd, to mark the 3rd anniversary of the 360 launch.

What is this Xbox Eperience? The last time I owned an Xbox Experience was boxing it up every few months to get it repaired for the upteenth time.

I think I've figured it out: your sole purpose must be to come into articles and generate more page views by "trolling". Do you secretly work from Weblogs, Inc and get commission to post this kind of stuff to get readers to go off on a rant? I bet that's it, lol.

I thought they already announced at E3 that the New Xbox Experience was coming in November so this isn't technically news at all.

what I don't get is, wii and ps3 have free online. why does xbox 360, the one you have to pay for online, have to be ad supported? Answer me that one!

If you notice...95% of the ads pertain to products XBL compatible( games, DL's etc...)

Its not flooded with "Drink Sprite!" etc yes they have little blow by campaigns for T Moble and other stuff, but, thats them paying MS for the slot. Disregard this as a matter fact...
Pffft for comparing XBL with the other Console networks in general...

yeah but even those small "sponsored by T Mobile" and "Chew 5 Gum" ads still tick me off when I'm paying for a service, because in addition to Microsoft and the game companies getting paid with OUR money to keep their stuff online, they get to get paid by advertisers who piggyback their way on to the xbox live marketplace. I guess I want a company that doesn't sell out as fast as M$...but like that's gonna happen.

Sam, ever use Tivo? I pay a hell of a lot more for Tivo than I do for Live and there are ads all over the place on Tivo.

Just like Kneel wrote, 95% of the ads pertain to products on Live. Infact, I would say that 100% of the ads pertain to products on Live. The ads for products such as t-mobile always offer free downloadable themes and gamer pictures and I believe the t-mobile ads were up because they were sponsoring a family game night for prizes.

I actually *gulp* like the ads.

Most of it is 360 related and it helps me decide whether I want to fork over points to buy it. Everything, for me, can stay but the onslaught of T-Mobile ads.

No, I don't work for Microsoft...
