A video of the game's "proof of concept," which can be found after the break, shows just how much of the core mechanic remained intact, while changing the protagonist's gender and use of weapons. The article also covers how Faith was initially a multiplayer character before she took center stage and has several nice pieces of early concept art of the levels.

The folks over at 1UP have a nice feature about the making of Mirror's Edge. With a little under two months to go before the Parkour-inspired FPS runs free at retail, the site talks with developers at DICE about the title and many people's initial apprehensions about the game's concept -- including EA CEO John Riccitiello.

I want to care about this game but I just can't, if there's anything wrong with me?

There's not something wrong with you, just your use of conjunctions.

I'm with you. I love hype more than I love games. But I can't get behind this one. When it's being demoes on these videos it looks kinda boring, and it just seems it'll be that much more boring when I'm walking all slow and peering over ledges to see if I could make the jump.

I can see how taking about 5-10 seconds to get up / climb over railings would get really tiresome while playing this, if it holds true to this concept video.
And am I the only one who gets supremely annoyed at buffering for over a minute and then only being to watch the always ridiculously long Game Trailers intro?
Just show the god damned video and put a watermark on it, jerks!

Nope, because my internet speed is 900 MB / sec, so no buffering here!

Let's do some maths! 90038 kilobits (bit, not byte) divided by 8 gives you 11254.75 KB/s. Divide that by 1024, and you're left with 10 MB/s. You'd think someone would notice 80 missing MB/s and rethink their bragging.

This is the first video I've seen of this game and I must say I don't know if I'd be able to play it. All that movement of the screen, like the bobbing and swaying of the head, while my head and body stay still is a bit nauseating. It's probably something I'd have to take time getting used to. Other than that, it sounds and looks like it could be fun.

That's not really what the game looks like, it's just an example of what they were going for. But they said the final game has some sort of "crosshair" in the middle of the screen that somehow keeps you from getting motion sickness, sort of like "spotting," which ballerinas use to keep from getting dizzy.
